Rafe,

Thankyou for your preview. I was wondering, since you mentioned about the Web browser supporting flash lite, whether you have succeded in opening sites with Flash Video such as YouTube?

Thanks

"The question that's killing me slowly is how much available RAM is on the device? I'm praying to the lord it's more than 20mb!" Did you read the article? It clearly says 150MB.

"anyone know if this would work on verizon wireless? im sick of using those crappy verizon phones"

Yes, it should work as it's a quad-band phone. You just need to insert a Verizon SIM card in the phone.

However, if Verizon don't offer it as part of a plan then you'll have to buy the phone yourself. American phone service providers have a tendency to hide the true cost of the actual phones and make customers pay for the phone in installments through very high monthly service fees.

"Did you read the article? It clearly says 150MB."

No, that's the internal flash memory which is used for storing data. RAM is the working memory required for running lots of programmes at once. Mobile phone makers hardly ever tell anyone how much RAM their models have, for some weird reason.

Verizon uses the CDMA Network. This phone is a GSM Phone. Cingular(AT&T) and T-Mobile only.

hi there, sweet device you got there and great preview too. this thing is the stuff i dream about every night can't wait to get one.
i am just curious about that headset adapter. the pictures do not show the pin connection clearly and i have been racking my brain as to how the microphone and other functions on that remote works. my question is how many connection points are on that adapter on the 3.5mm end that goes into the phone??

Way to know the difference between RAM and internal memory. 🙄 I know it has 150mb internal memory. I want to know how much RAM the device has.

If you don't know how to find out, install Tasky or the trial of Best TaskMan and run them on a clean boot of the phone.

I'd really like to know how responsive the UI feels. I have an N73, and while it's a great phone, I really wish it was a bit snappier. Hope things are better with the N95

The N95 runs the same processor of the N93, which is really fast. If you search on YouTube for videos of the N95, you can get an idea for how fast it is.

Will Nokia be upgrading the phone's firmware so it can handle the 4gb microsd cards and the newer 8b microsd cards?

This is a killer for me if they have no plans to do so.

If you talk about microSDHC cards, no way. Is software, but also hardware. N95 should reach the limit with 2Gb cards. Only if appears ordinary microSD great than 2Gb:con?

That's actually not really true. I've been reading that the only difference between regular SD cards and what is called SDHC cards is the file format used. It's FAT16 for regular SD and FAT32 for SDHC. There are no physical/hardware differences between the two types of cards so software support for FAT32 is really the only thing needed to make the N95 compatible with the SDHC cards. I tried to post a link to a Brighthand article that explains this but I'm not allowed to post links so just do a Google search for this string:
New High-Capacity SD Format. The first result of that search is the Brighthand article I wanted to post the link to.

So, do we know yet the amount of free RAM on the N95? That's the real question of the day....

Damn you and your previews lol.
Now I've got to spend 2 months green with envy until it's available from O2......

On howardforums.com someone posted an image of Handy Taskman running on the N95 and it reported 17.7mb available at startup. :frown:

The N95 has just under 20MB of free RAM after bootup. About what I'd expect, given playing with the likes of the N93i.

If is like that, why the cards are not back compatible? Is enough format on FAT 16!
But, N-Gage, from 2003, accept MMC card of 4Gb... which is the system format of that MMC cards?

Very nice first piece of a review. I took a long and hard look at the N95 at CES and came away very impressed. It would be a heck of a break from my Treo, but I think that I could manage 😉

I notice that the photos have a purple/blue hue to them. Me not being a Nokia phone guy (really, the N95 is the first Nokia ever that I've WANTED), is this something that a manual white balance or firmware update could fix?

Looking forward to the rest of the review, as well as the US non-bastardized version 😊

Antoine of MMM/Brighthand

Id also like to know how much RAM is left for the user after a clean bootup? Also did u get any memory low warnings when using the new web browser etc? Thanx loads and a v nice look at the n95

just one question. have you tried making a video call on landscape mode? Thanks

Thanxx for nice test & comments.
I wonder, how fast is the phone in the menues? Is It as slow as Nokias earlier Series 60 phones? (N70)

I am now working on answering all the questions received so far. Please keep 'em coming.

Rafe

Tom Tom is already working with a Windows Mobile device with integrated GPS (HTC P3300) so they could easily do it with Symbian as well if a deal was done.

I would like to ask about the GPS component.

1) Is it possible to synchronise the time on the N95 with the GPS clock ?
2) Is it possible to tag the GPS coordinates to the photos taken by the N95 automatically ?

My third question, playing youtube videos from the youtube website, fact or fiction.

TIA.

I read it as 150MB is the available RAM on the flashdrive, not the available working memory which the poster was after (and which I'd like to know as well)

Cheers,

It is not possible to format 4GB card with FAT16 since FAT16 only supports volumes of up to 2GB due to memory addressing limitations. If N-Gage works with 4GB MMC cards it can only mean that those cards are formatted with FAT32 and that N-Gage supports FAT32, which only means that Nokia has included FAT32 support in at least one of their devices. There really is no reason not to include this capability in their current devices so let's hope that they do. It really is in their interest as 4GB micro SDHC cards are about to become available and the extra storage would make Nokia phones more competitive with standalone MP3 players and the iPhone.

And now to reinstate The Most Important Question about N95:
How much RAM does it have after a clean bootup?
A clear and definitive answer to that question will be greatly appreciated.
I really find it amazing how difficult it is to obtain an answer to this question about any of the S60 devices - it really is like pulling teeth for some reason.

Yes! Thank you somebody finally agrees with me and has the same understanding about the issue I do.

I'm really not in the mood to shell out 700 bucks to be stuck at 2gb. I'd much rather shell out 700 bucks and have 8tb (yes that's a "t"😉 as a max cap.

Hi, I'd like to know if, when I want to go from A to B, I accept the t&c's and download the route (with voice direction ) will the route be saved to use again and/or can I download the GB maps and pay for ie I year? Or everytime I want to go somewhere will I have to llog-on, accept, pay, download?
Any ideas how this phone might work on vodafone combined with their sat-nav 'thing' their developing.
Many Thanks,
Kindest regards
