Or everytime I want to go somewhere will I have to llog-on, accept, pay, download?
Any ideas how this phone might work on vodafone combined with their sat-nav 'thing' their developing.
Many Thanks,

You pay once for the navigation upgrade. You can pay for 7 days, 30 days, 3 months or a year.
After that you just download automatically. All the routing is free, its just the voice guidance (turn by turn) that costs
hey Rafe, tx a lot for answering my question about the headset adapter. i have a new questions.
you said the start up RAM is 19.8MB. i kinda read somewhere that you could set part of the 160MB internal memory towards being used as RAM. it is supposed to be somewhere in the settings of the N95. unfortunately i lost the link to the site. i think it was a chinese website so this might have been a translation error. could you confirm this? thx a lot.

It would be great if that was possible. That would solve any multitasking problems. However, it is very very unlikely that Nokia has made that possible.
So the N95 has under 20mb ram available at startup, once again we are likely to be plagued with the same 'out of memory' problems that have been the bugbear of the S60V3 and UIQ 3 devices since they were released.
If the N80 runs out of memory zooming past 50% on a 3mp image what chance has the N95 have of zooming in on a 5mp image.
The new Nokia Web Browser 2 has more features and will most likely use more memory, so as with the earlier devices struggle with large web pages.
What is the point of having large amounts of storage memory (160mb)and bugger all ram, for a multi tasking device it doesn't make any sense. Why couldn't Nokia have increased the memory to say 40mb or even the 30mb that the N70 had at startup.
I was and still am looking forward to the N95 to replace my N80, but if it ends up with the same out of memory bugs as most S60V3 devices I fear that my days of using Symbian devices may be numbered.
Can you please tell if we can find the detailed map of the Republic of Georgia in the software provided. Thank you.
Does the GPS work without maps, ie. if I am in a country that maps is not available for will it still give me an absolute position that I can use for navigation?
if you can,
can you please take a picture of it compared to an lg chocolate and nokia 6682/1/0
please and thank you
...see any reason why anyone would get a separate navigation software, since you get the free maps application with the N95. Well, ok, if you really push me this could be the reason...
1. You live in an area where detailed maps are not supported by the Nokia Maps application.
And in theory these two as well...
(2.)you think that the upgrade price for voice-guided navigation incl. automatic re-routing and turning arrows is too high (however I am certain that buying e.g. Route 66 software would be more expensive than upgrading your N95 with Navi-capabilities...
(3.) You fancy onboard solutions and not having to download the detailed maps. I know I prefer to download the maps from the back-end server - always fresh - and I also have a flat rate subscription so dont need to worry about data charges.
I have tried the N95 for a while, and I think that the maps application is doing the job fairly well at least where I move about...
Good review Rafe!

when is Nokia N95 going to be launch in india and approximately at what price because i am waiting eagerly for this smart phone because long time nokia has not launch a good handset after nokia n93 please let me know
when will this nokia n95 going to get launch in india
Since 3G support will not be available in the U.S., will the GPS mapping be usable on an EDGE network or will it be too slow?
Is there gonna be some picture with n93i and n95 becauce I`d like to see how much they differ size-wise?
I'd just like to say thank you for a great review. It's the first time I've seen a proper look at the N95 rather than speculative comments.
My question is a little silly but I wondered if it came with any games already loaded onto it like Snakes.
Is the slide action spring loaded? How does it relate to the N80?
Is there any limitation for using the GPS option in Middle-east?
One more video from N95 on Darla Mack blog - Nokia N95 Video - Driving to McDonalds - here: http://darlamack.blogs.com/
the quality still doesnt compare to a real digicam.
remember this is in good light. as soon as the lightlevel drops, you will notice huge noise in the image. the reason is simply the very small sensor combined with the high MP count.
and this is mostly physics. a small sensor will never be able to catch as much light as a bigger sensor, hence you have to boost the signal more to have a well exposed image. but when you boost the signal, you also boost noise.
so no, if the sensor size will stay that small (and it has to, because bigger sensor = bigger lens = bigger phone), those phonecams will only be able to excel in good to very good lighting situations.
Is the positioning application included with Maps or do you have to pay for it> Is it included in the S60 3rd edition? Thanks.
when N95 would come out in stores or on internet for sales in UK.
Didn't Nokia get the memo? Thin is in. This thing is so big, ugly and bulky, it'll weigh your pants down, that is, if it fits in your pocket. DVD-like video? Don't make me laugh. I have a Sony SR100 Handycam, that is DVD quality. It's high noon on Nokia's time in the sun as a dominant handset manufacturer. Thin margin over spec'd toys labelled as mobile computing devices...what an ego.
Is it me or the photos are all purple-ish ?

The N76 is pretty thin and reasonable full-packed in terms of features, if you're looking for a thin S60 based product:
http://forum.nokia.com/devices/N76Samsung SGH-i520 is also pretty thin (17.9mm) & presumably out soon (and based on the newest S60 version):

Can I ask you if u have to have headset connected to the N95 when you want to listen to the radio?
I'm sure the wired headset will still act as the FM radio receiver's antenna/aerial in the N95 like in any previous phone with FM radio from Nokia.
In other words, you'll still need it.
I started a N95 community, if your going to get one please check it out and let me know what you think. n95users com

Why? As in:
Why did you start a new one? What's wrong with this one? What's there that gives enough reson to go (besides probably advertising banners that make you money, I suspect, even if I haven't been there)? Your intentions may be good and unselfish for all I know, but just saying you started a new "community" (whatever that really means, if there's nobody else there yet) and asking people to come/go is not enough reason in my opinion.
I had the HP6515 Pocket PC and I used TOMTOM on it. Not thru bluetooth...thru it's integrated device.
