Yes, Rafe and a few others in the smartphone world have been given prototype N95s to play with and we've been enjoying their tests. But if you really want to overdose on N95 goodness, watch Symbian Freak (run by apocalypso from the AAS forums) over the next week, who has just taken delivery of the first production N95 and who promises 'not to sleep' during testing. His comments are especially interesting as it's all from a strict power user perspective.
Read on in the full article.
Err... I have to say some of his comments are pretty stupid, quite frankly. Paraphrasing one "it is hard to put a bigger battery in such a small device with all the other hardware, but that's no excuse, 1500mAH is a must have." Que? Come again? That makes no sense at all...
I agree, but I did say that his viewpoint was very much a power user, someone who expects the earth, even if it's unrealistic!
Still interesting to hear this point of view though.
Steve
To be honest, the article seems pretty poor.
His article isn't up yet. The article that the three of you are judging is just his first impression after just receiving the phone. If you read the whole thing, you would know that he plans on writing a much larger review later.
The guy doesn't speak English very well. Cut him some slack.
"it is hard to put a bigger battery in such a small device with all the other hardware, but that's no excuse, 1500mAH is a must have."
How does this not make sense? I'll translate as best I can for you. He's saying it's difficult to fit a larger sized battery into a device as small as the N95. The 1500 mAh battery of the E61 would not fit into the N95, but Nokia should still find a more powerful battery for a phone with as many advanced features.
I don't think his claims are unrealistic at all. The N95 is facing the same outcome as the N80, being built with tons of new and updated features while only being equipped with a 950 mAh battery. Nokia could've at least given them the N73's 1100 mAh battery, which is compact enough to fit inside a phone that small. It's also not unrealistic to ask for more RAM on this device. All current s60 phones suffer from a lack of RAM to the point of aggravation when using the device, especially when the standard is at least 64mb on most other brands of smartphones.
I'm a real 'power user' too and I'm agree with my croatian friend at symbian-freak that the 1500mAh battery is a 'must have' feature for that hardware.
My E61 drains out every afternoon with the bigger battery and it has no GPS or HSPDA...
I'm using my bt headset, push mail over EDGE/3G all day, 1-2 hours Tomtom with bt GPS and reading rss feeds approx. 1-1,5 and listening music an other hour/day and at these cold winter days my phone runs out of power after 12 hours!
Ok. I know that's a bit extreme, and the 100km travelling/day with the lot of cell switching (which increase the hungry of the device) make it more extreme, but the N95 won't make it for my lunch with those batteries!!!
I've just ditched my N80 for an E61 for exactly this reason - the N80 with ActiveSync running wouldn't last the day. There's no point integrating all those features into a single device if it won't run any of them for more than an hour before running out of juice.
I'll stick to my iPod (13 hrs), E61 (2 days) and a seperate GPS until someone starts doing something sensible with these converged devices.
I really did fancy that phone .... but it would be just more of the same; waking up each morning and thinking, "Damn. Dead again."
Slart.
i dont get it...why dont ul just buy an extra battery and keep it with u?? its not that big n bulky u know..2 1000mA batteries SHOULD be enough for a day...if theyre not...buy another one..
Second battery?
Yeah, I'll change it while I'm browsing or biking or talking...
I don't want to take off the backplate every day.
The only solution could be a 3rd party external, or extra battery with a special backplate, but... Ehh, it'll be not too elegant 😞
