P800 TIPS & TRICKS!

I have been reading the forums about how to connect my P800 to my PC with a bluetooth serial port connection so I can brows the Internet through my mobile without any extra cost. I am using a 3Com Wireless Bluetooth PC Card 3CRWB6096 with and 3Com Bluetooth Connection Manager installed on my laptop that runs with OS XP Home edition and I have had no successes so far in making a serial port connection. In all the posting I have read it is simply said that one has to make a serial port connection without any further explanation.

For me this is not a peace of cake as it obviously is for other readers. I have also read in one of the forums The software does not include utilities for initiating connections other than the LAN and DUN profiles. This may be the problem since the software cannot initiate Serial COM connections.

If someone has figured out a way to make a serial connection port with this equipment I would like to know how.

Guest,

I assume you've paired the two successfylly, no? It sometimes require quite a bit of fiddling to get a stable serial port connection going..

What I've found to be an easy way of starting the connection is to double-click the mRouter icon(bottom right corner of your PC - looks like two small arrows pointing in opposite directions) and check the com ports you're using(repeat if needed).

Oh, and of course you must have the P800 PC-Suite installed, mRouter is a part of PC-Suite and acts as the gateway to your PC's internet connection.

There's also another(better) solution posted before in this forum(I'll try to hunt down the link) where the PC and P800 will immediately recognice each other and a BT serial port connection will automatically be started.
1) You need to set up a new "dummy" internet account, don't fill in any settings, just change the IP address to something like 123.000.000.000. Then go to messaging accounts and set your e-mail account to connect using this dummy internet account. 2) Yes, it works without having to change any settings, just like Opera and WebViewer etc.
Hey I tried this and I get an error"Activation rejected"... has any one else got this working?

Ok I've managed to get this working now.. I just set up a new internet account and didn't change any of the settings - including NOT changing IP address.

Now I just set prefered account to 'dummy' and can use the built in browser and email over bluetooth. sweet...

Just installed Opera and now connecting to internet using my broadband connection WOW!!!! superb

i got a 100 metre range connector so i can go out in the garden and go online on ME PHONE!!!!!!!!!!

err actually i cant go outside in the garden!!! 😞 😞
i dont think the p800 can go over 10metres even if the USB adaptor can

still good though!!
