Any help gratefully received.
Phone: R1D
Bluetooth: R2C
PDA: R1F01
CDA: R1F04

CDA is the filesystem that keeps userdata and files - not to be mix up with the filesystem in the phone.
Also I've seen some issues regarding this topic that users belive that they have an wrong version of the CDA fw (R1B) instead of the latest fw which for the moment is R2A. This is due to the fact that when you restore your backup after flashing the memory. The backup restore it to factory origin which where delivered with the phone. SE can't explain why this happends and neither if there is a solution to this problem.
By the way: latest fw for the organizer is R1G05

It would be nice to have a page on a web-site with the current versions of the fw, together with a list of all changes between the different versions. That's very common for most software developers - only the phone companies seem to keep this info like a secret.
I would also like to know why there is no option to download the latest fw and patch the flash-rom myself? What is so special about the tools (a PC?) needed to update the fw?
Phone: R1D

Where to download an update?

Actually so has SE servie centers for not so long ago provided end users with this information. But for some kind of reason did they close this service.

That's "marketing" ... it the same with all mobile companies. they are keeping secrets about everything - who needs a "service center" for a firmware update - if only we would get the needed software from SE?!
A "smart-phone" is much closer to a "normal" computing device then an old-fashioned mobile phone and people (start to) work different with things like a P800. For us a fw update is much more important then for a normal phone - I never had to go to a "service center" to update my PSION or PALM - now, welcome back to the world of secrets 😞
It also shows: the P800 is a phone and no PDA.
I just got an upgraded unit
Phone R1D
BT: R2C
Org: R1F01
CDA: R1F04
Since I had 2 P800 with 2 different firmwares at the same time I've written a review about it. It's on this forum, just posted it.

I could not agree with you more. :-? But is a well-known fact that mobile manufacturers won't release information unnecessarily. I also know that the possibility of letting end users by them self upgrading mobile devices is a hot topic from resellers all over to SE. Cause as more advanced the terminal are as more workload for the resellers to upgrading (bad loop) 😮
I bought my P800 today in munich, germany:
Telefon: R1D
Bluetooth: R2C
Organizer: R1F01
CDA: R1F04
Quite up to date... 😉
The CDA version displayed under "Systeminformation" comes from a simple text-file named "cda_version.txt" and is located in c:\system\data. I moved it to the memorystick and after rebooting the P800 you'll find no more entry under CDA systeminformation. The conclusion is, that you can have the CDA version you like just by editing this textfile.
btw: in the whitepaper is written that SE will provide FW upgrades on the web. Does anybody know why the haven't done so far?
Mine (bought a week ago) in Switzerland has:
Phone: CXC162002 R1D
Bluetooth: CXC12529 R2C
Organizer: CXC162001 R1F01
CDA: CDA162002/5 R2A01
...
With the "closed flip secret menu" trick i see the following informations:
Software info:
PDA software version
CXC162001 R1F01 021219 17:41
Phone software version
R1D CXC162002
Bluetooth software version
CXC12529 R2C
CDA:
Hardware info
IMEI
????????????????
Sim locks
...
Configuration
Speech codec rate
HR FR EFR
Bands
GSM 900 1800 1900
AND the very best function of the phone:
Format Internal Disk !!!
This will destroy every information (Yes, I did try!): even the supplied programs like Chess & Solitaire and any language pack (apart from the english one). So be warned, look at all the versions but don't make the mistake to try option 5 of the secret menu !!!
I was one of the unlucky few who after restoring backup file my CDA went back to R1B from R2A. Could it be that the CDA_version.txt part was the only problem but the actual flashed software is already present in the phone itself?
OK, I am new to this forum. I just got my P800 last night. So what is new in this new F/W's? In Manila, where can I get mine upgraded to the latest F/W?
What are the specific upgrades for R1D? I don't see any, plus it makes my phone worse than before.
More details:
Phone:
CXC162002 R1D
Bluetooth:
CXC12529 R2C
Organiser: CXC162001 R1F01
CDA:
CDA162001/8 R1B02
Anything wrong?

Your CDA is old.
It should be at least CDA162001/5 R1F04
This deals with how your phone manages files, etc.
Strange that your phone should act up, though.
Max Linux, if you got your phone from Semicon, you can have it upgraded at their head office along Marcos Hi-way. It will take 2 hours. Some branches have upgrades too, but you'll have to ask their H.O. if what branch has the upgrade already.
If you bought your P800 with a Wintelcom warranty, you can go to their office in Manila.
If you bought your P800 from the gray market, i'm not sure how you can upgrade. But i guess you wouldn't buy an expensive phone without warranty.
This upgrade will make the Opera browser work.

Actually, you can have it upgraded at just about ANY Sony Ericsson Accredited Service Center.
One of mine has a Wintelcom warranty, while the other has a Semicon warranty.
I took them (and my friend's whose is under Wintelcom as well) to the Sony Ericsson Service Specialists in Legazpi Village Makati, and they performed the upgrade for free.
Ericsson themselves will do the upgrade here in Pasig for free, as well as the other credited centers in Makati along Jupiter.
Hey, can i know the address of those service centers you mentioned?
Legaspi Vill, Pasig, and the ones along Jupiter?
How long did it take for you to upgrade your version? It took me 4 hours. Travel to Megamall's Semicon took me another 2 hours from Binondo.
So is your CDA higher than R1B02 now? Only my organizer and my Phone was upgraded.
Hey Guys I got mine from Cebu warrantied by Semicon.
My friend told me that I should have it upgraded so I went to Semicon. But when Igot there and checked what their latest software it was, I already had it so I didnt push through. These are my software versions:
Phone: R1D
Bluetooth: R2C
Organizer: R1f01
CDA: R1F04
By the way if you bought your phone from the grey market you can still have it upgraded at Semicon but you have to pay Php 500.00 everytime you upgrade. I had a t68i form HK orange before and thats what I paid for everytime to have it upgraded.
jackalhead: Your organiser is also old.
@jackalhead?? Can i know those centers you mentioned?
anyone knowof service centers in ireland my firmware is
phone R1d
BT R2c
Org R1G05
CDA is blank?? anyone know why and what it is
Thanx
Last I checked (about May) there was nowhere in Ireland to get your firmware upgraded. You'd need to give SE a ring, they give you an address of somewhere in England and you have to send iot away for a week or two (at your own risk). Which is why I haven't bothered yet.
As for the CDA, it's a fairly common "Bug". Certainly it isn't something to get concerned about.
Oh, and if you do find out about a place to get firmware updates done in or around Dublin, could you let me know please?
