Not sure if this is a bug or a "feature". My N95 doesn't show the date/time when a text was sent to me, just the time it was received on the phone (when you select Options > Message Details).
I put my phone on to offline at night, then when I put it back online in the morning, all the messages have today's date and time, when they were sent last night.
It's the case that messages sent "today" do not have the date, just ones from the day before and back.
Mozilla Thunderbird email client does exactly the same, it assumes you already know that the message came today and only need to know at what time.
I personally like the feature.

It may be that when you say 'last night' they were sent after midnight so, like Taomyn says, the phone classes it as 'today' and thus only gives the time. It only gives the date if the message arrived prior to midnight
I think what mcsleazycrisps meant was that rather than showing the time that the message was sent, it shows the time it arrived on the phone (nothing to do with the day). So if i was sent a message at 10am but my phone was off. When i turn it on at 2pm, and i receive the message it shows 2pm in the text message's details....
This is different to every other phone i have had/used so why they chose to change it i don't know! 😞
Yeah-same problem and this is very annoying. It is really handy to know if Joe Bloggs has just asked you to go for a few beers at the local just or four hours ago because your phone has been off/out of range.....

Oh crap. I didn't realise it did that, thats stupid! I know when I got it cos I'm looking at it and there is a clock on my phone! I want to know when it was sent!
I'm gonna test this later but if that is how it works, that sucks AND blows
well just switched phone off. rang it .then it sent me a text saying exactly what time it rang so it works ok on my phone
had a message also which had date and time on this morning when it was sent. so phone calls and texts come in at the time they were sent
I know this is an old thread, but I'm now on V12 and this seems to still be happening.
I got a text on Saturday morning (after turning my phone on) that was sent the night before, but when looking at the properties the time and date said the time I turned my phone on, not when it was sent.
It was awhile before I realised and a few confused texts went back and forth.
Looks like it's still not fixed after 2 firmware upgrades.
Strange one, becaue upgrading to V12 fixed this issue for me (Aussie N95).
Regards
Could this be operator-specific?
i dont have this issue , im on v12 and o2 network (UK)
