Hi,
Unless I'm mistaken (& I really hope I am), there is an unbelievably HUGE flaw with text messages on the N95 - incoming messages have no date on them...that's just pants!!!!
If I'm away from my phone for a couple of days & come back to a dozen messages, there is no time or date data in the messages to determine when they were sent. Instead you have to go to a separate reports page which is ludicrous.
Is there no way to have the N95 display the sender, time & date with the message?
I have just updated the firmware (v11.0.026), but it's exactly the same.
Worse is that since the update speed dialling is now a TWO button press.
Just holding the speed dial down does nothing now except display the number you press on the handset & gives a long bleep???
Fundamental flaws that need to be addressed immediately.
Go to message details when in the message and it will tell you the date.
That's exactly my point, you have to read the message, then go to oPtions just to find out the date it was sent - that's unbelievably bad - infact dreadful!
That something so fundamentally important can be overlooked like this... I'm absolutely astounded.
You are absolutely right. I hadn't thought about it untill now. It's not the end of the world for me, but definately a minus score.
My speed dial works just fine, however, but you need to activate it in settings.
(I'm on the new firmware aswell)
Thanks.
You are right about the speed dialing just needing to be made active again (doh!), I was hoping the text messaging thing would be something equally as simple to fix, but alas not!
Thanks for your help though 😊

Your welcome! 😊 The timestamp really bothers me too. Is it the same case with other Symbian OS 9.1? Or is it only the N95? Which seems odd considering the message editor is pretty standard for all S60 v.3 models right?

I don't know if this is the same on their other phones as I've not used them. I had been using SE & Panasonics prior to this (most recently a W900i). The SE implementation of dealing with Bluetooth & data transfers & SMS is MUCH better in my opinion. On my W900 for example, you have 3 options of what details are displayed on your SMS messages - so for those who want just the senders name they can have, but for most other (like me) who want the time & date, they can have it too.
It's really frustrating that Nokia have overlooked something so simple.
I've got a phone that can tell me my location anywhere in the world, take incredible photographs & videos, but can't tell me what time & date my sms arrived (without another 5 button presses) - bizarre!
Hi there,
I also agree. There is enough space on the display, absolutely no reason not to display it or at least make it configurable...
Regs,
Pete
It's been the same on every s60 phone I've owned - N95, N73, N70, 6630 and 6600.

As far as I am aware every Nokia handset released in the last few years works this way. Personally, it's not a big deal to me to press Options -> Message Details, but fair point if it annoys some of you.
The Bug in the N95 means that it dates the message according to the phones time. So if your phones off for a few hours and you receive text message when you turn it on i find it gives the time of when you turned on your phone not when it was sent.

I can add N-Gage and 7610 to that list

My N73 displayed the date next to the message sender/title in the inbox screen. I'm really annoyed that the N95 doesn't do the same!
Add 6110 navigator to the list, and it annoys me too.
Just like the fact there is no stopwatch, and no countdown timer. WTF is that about, my 6233 had them?
Just to stick my oar in here...
I find the Reports screen annoying as it displays when the message was sent, not delivered. So, if you don't actually see the 'Delivered' popup appear, you'll never know when the recipient got the message.
ill tell u whats appauling ... no duration time after call is made !! Thats such a big minus !!
Is it just me that would calls it as perhaps a minor annoyance? I can probably count on the fingers of one hand the number of times I've been away from my phone for days at a time!

It can...
Menu | Tools | Settings | Phone | Call
Set 'Show call duration' to 'Yes' to see a timer when you're on a call.
Set 'Summary after call' to 'On' to see the time at the end of a call.

Perhaps you should RTFM before posting m8?

I saw that prob too, and it was like "wtf!@??!". But rest assured, V12 firmware does not have that issue thank goodness.
