How much better is the 9210i than the 9210

okay, it seems that there will not be another communicator for a while so I have to ask. I am a 9210 user and more or less happy with it. I have plently of nice software which is registered under the current IMEI no. I would guess I will loose that if I upgrade to the 9210i (am I right there?)

The main question is how much better is the 9210i and what advantages would I get from it?

I had a 9210 and it was stolen. Replace it with a 9210i and to be totally honest, there is hardly any difference. I wouldn't bother upgrading unless you 9210 is stolen or broken.

I would also have to add that only upgrade if you find that your 9210 runs out of memory far to often (also taking into account that you conserve memory when ever possible). I have a 9210 and my friend has a 9210i and to be honest i am not so impressed with the improvements that i would buy one whilst i still have the original. If, as was said above it was stolen or broken then yes definately go for the upgrade!

I up-graded and was satisfied with my choice. My old 9210 gave me a lot of problems and when I turned to 9210i I was totally happy. :P

😉 Well... the Nokia 9210i has actually some improvements over the Nokia 9210...

These are increased memory and some new software...

Memory:
This is the major difference between the two devices since all most all of the others (the software components) can be obtained for free and are are compatiable with the Nokia 9210...

The Nokia 9210's specification for memory is:
Total memory: 24MB
Application memory: 14MB
User memory: 2MB
Execution memory: 8MB (SD-RAM)
16MB Application Card in the sales package

The Nokia 9210i's specification for memory is:
Total memory: 40MB
Application memory: 16MB
User memory: 16 MB (contains 6 MB preinstalled applications)
Execution memory: 8MB (SD-RAM)
64MB Memory card available as an accessory

As you can see the main difference is an increase of 14MB in the user memory and the supplied MMC card is 64MB instead of 16MB. There is no extra execution memory (a mistake in many people's opinion...).

9210i also have a new Web Browser (based on Opera):
The new WWW browser offers better compatibility with WWW pages. The main new features are the following: HTML 4.01 (the Nokia 9210 Communicator has HTML 3.2) Support for XHTML 1.1, JavaScript supported and CSS (Cascade style sheet)
2 windows concept (two windows can be open at the same time), Content sensitive pointer (pointer recognizes the content it is placed on), Edge sensitive scrolling with pointer (you can scroll web pages easily with pointer)

Real Player One has also been added to the Nokia 9210i. The RealOne Player lets you play RealAudio and RealVideo files on your Nokia 9210i Communicator. It supports streaming from the Internet in HSCSD networks and is pre-installed into the device. You can stream from services that use the newest RealNetworks codec RealAudio 7&8 and RealVideo 7&8 (RA7, RA8, RV7, RV8). In addition the service must be available with bit rates suitable for your HSCSD connection. You may find some material that is only designed for wide band Internet access and this kind of material cannot be viewed on the Nokia 9210i Communicator.

A Macromedia Flash player has also been added to the 9210i device. Flash Player supports Macromedia Flash content, which is widely used to deliver motion, sound, and interactivity. This means you can now enjoy Macromedia Flash movies, cartoons, and even games right from your mobile phone. Plus, you'll be able to view engaging presentations, e-learning content, even personal productivity applications that keep you on the move. The Flash Player provides a rich Web experience, in part through the use of Vector graphics that enable sharp scaling.

p/s: if u upgrade to 9210i u can still actually request for the new code... but sometimes u need to give them the "proof of transaction"...

2 windows concept (two windows can be open at the same time), Content sensitive pointer (pointer recognizes the content it is placed on), Edge sensitive scrolling with pointer (you can scroll web pages easily with pointer)

how can i open two windows at the same time??

since, both have 2 mb execution memory.. then i want to ask a question !

i've got a 9210 (v 4.13) and istalled opera on it (mmc). however, whenever i try to open a website, it always gives me the "not enough memory"..

is it same on 9210i ..? can you load and view web pages..?

opera was designeed or 9210i was designed for opera.

9210---problems. that`s it. try to free some memory before starting browsing.

Opera is a web browser, like IE or Netscape, but smaller, more compact. I don't know the technicalities, though

I find three big and major diferrences 9210i has over 9210. 1st, you have the streaming video and flash player so I could watch movie previews on it, 2nd you can open 2 active windows same time. 9210 closes the windows and replaces it with current, but 9210i can open both. 3rd (but not tried with 9210), you can text, receive calls, etc. even while your data call is active.

9210i automatically loads pointer so web surfing is easier and fast.

That makes an ideal upgrade! :squarewink:

Opera is the worlds best web browser, small, fast, and 100% W3C compliant unlike IE and Mozilla/Netscape.
As for the extra bits, the Flash player runs fine on a 9210, as does RealOne Player. The only app problem is Opera.

As for this 2 window thing, can someone post a screenshot of this in action as I can't help thinking 2 windows at once on that tiny screen would leave no useful data visible in either window.

Long Live 9210i, but how long really? I used mobile internet sometimes, but am threatened bout the GPRS stigma on other newer models, like SE P800? have you guys checked that SE P800 already comes as close to match 9210i coz of GPRS?

And the digital camera connectivity, I wonder if this comes with interest to you attaching the digital cam on the 9210i, and looks cool than the SE units.

AM a die hard 9210iST, but I hope it lives longer enough!

[quote="PinoyDuke"]3rd (but not tried with 9210), you can text, receive calls, etc. even while your data call is active.

I was never able to do that! Probably it depends on the network...or am I wrong? :-?

During last period of time 9210i was sold at the price of 9210.

It is a big plus to get 9210i.

First--more Internal Memory
Second--You get a 64Mb MMC instead of 16Mb wich is unusable...Meaning huge difference

Opera and other real one are fireworks that make cake taste better.

Go for the i version..

(Hmm.. i hear a friend Go Nets, Go Nets. Go Nets 😉 )
