n95 orange problems - need help

11 replies · 4,744 views · Started 24 June 2007

i got the n95 from orange on a 12 month contract during april.

orange have replaced the handset 3 times already as it does not function properly and each replacement is faulty too.

it freezes, microphone does not always work, it switches itself off and the camera is very slow.

someone mentioned to me that i would need to remove orange from the phone and/or update the phone software from nokia.

please clarify this and perhaps point me in the right direction so as i can start to enjoy the phone.

i do feel it is pointless calling orange again asking for another replacement as i'm quite certain it would behave similarly.

Orange have not yet approved V11 Firmware so it's neccessary to change your product code (I recommend 0534841 EURO1 - Sand or 0536062 EURO1 - Plum) using Nemesis Suite (NSS). Once this is done, you can upgrade to the Generic Unbranded V11 firmware using the official Nokia Software Update program (NSU).

There are links to the software and instructions on page 2 of the sticky thread Nokia N95 Product codes in the N95 forum or click the link below...

I am on Orange and my N95 works flawlessly on the Euro-1 V11 Firmware.

Good luck.

I've debranded my Orange N95 and upgraded to v11 firmware. I have had no freezes since the upgrade, the camera appears marginally faster and the GPS is noticably quicker. I never had any microphone issues. :icon14:

However my WLAN, which worked perfectly well before the upgrade, now gives the 'No Gateway' error. Lots of people with the same problem over at Nokia's support forums. :icon13:

I have written to Orange about why they are so slow releasing F/W updates, I'm not expecting a satisfactory response.

Line 2 does not work if you move to V11, as I found out, so had to get my handset replaced. Everything else works though, that I could see.

Thanks - I fixed it myself though. Turns out when I loaded my backup from the firmware upgrade the N95 switched my WEP key from hex to ASCII for some reason. You can change it back in settings/connections. With the next upgrade I will hard reset the phone and manually restore all my settings as this is not the only thing to go wrong as a result of the backup (themes disappearing, apps not loading etc).

Does anyone know why Orange are taking so long to confirm the firmware? If the other networks are doing it then why not them? (Of course they are a bunch of useless monkeys to be fair....)

If no-one really knows then I will get onto them asap and find out. They hate me at orange and I think i strike fear into their hearts when i get on the phone. Hopefully I can sort something out! (Before I took my contract out I had huge problems with them, but I won't go into that now....)

No idea but it really annoys me - especially with their crappy new data tariffs - this was the only reason i moved to them and am now regretting it!!

I sent them an email on saturday morning asking that question.... still no response....🙄

As you have now discovered, it's not safe to restore a backup after FW upgrades. It's only safe to do a Synchronise via PC Suite.
