Smartphones Show 36 - the iPhone special?

8 replies · 3,385 views · Started 29 June 2007

How could the latest Smartphones Show not include relevancy to the iPhone and try to get in first? - this is 'iDay' after all(!) So, with a truck load of Symbian news, a one minute(!) review of the Apple iPhone and a feature on things existing S60 users can learn from the iPhone's simplicity. Smartphones Show 36 is here in MP4 format, here on YouTube.

Read on in the full article.

Excellent analysis on the iPhone UI etc. From Nokia point of view its so far pretty good: 1) I've never seen so much N95 coverage overall and even some here in the US 2) people see that a multimedia computer phone can and needs to cost a bit more than your average phone 3) it must have given them a healthy jolt and woken up their "usability" department.

Hello Steve.

Another great show. One question. Are you sure about s60 sling support?

The "3" version which wont run over wifi?

Well, there wasn't time to go into an exhaustive S60 compatibility table, of course. But I've seen it working to my satisfaction in the past... although not on Wi-Fi, admittedly.

The Slingbox would make a good review article for the future, actually. Any readers got one and able to write as well? Or should AAS try and wangle one?

Steve

What was that link for youtube you gave at the end?
I tried tying it in, but it just gives me an error.

Thanks to your iPhone UI analysis, I took a closer look at the UI of my N95 again and found a solution that is quite as easy, intuitive and good looking as the iPhone UI: Have you ever looked closely at the N95 multimedia menu?

- You can configure it easily to contain only your 10 most used functions.
- It is just a button click away or leave it open on top, if you prefer.
- It can even show your favourite pictures when not used

Before watching your analysis I did not use it at all. Now the multimedia menu is my favourite way to navigate my phone. Only it's name is completely misleading. It is just a simple, good looking, freely configurable menu system!

Well done Steve on once again a great episodes of Smartphones Show,I would like to inquire as to why you have not done an Smartphones Show review on the 5700 XpressMusic, you done one on the N76 & that phone arrived at AAS before the 5700?

Also when can we expect a review on the 6120 Classic, the next Smartphones Show show perhaps...

k.ewin: How about a screenshot of what you ended up with?

hargs48: I can only review what passes through my hands! Some of these devices have gone through other AAS channels. The 6120 is a good example of a device to do a feature on though. Let's see what happens after Krisse has finished with it.
