"Hi all
Ive come across the following link to the Nokia Maps update.
http://fpa.smart2go.com/free_downloads/NOKIA_Maps_1_0_S60_update.SIS
It works perfectly on my N95, however if you choose to install, please be aware of the following
1. It's essential that you install to phone memory. Do NOT install to memory card.
2. Reboot your N95 after installing.
Works perfectly for me"
There’s a nice preview of the new Nokia Maps software here:
http://thenokiablog.com/2007/06/15/preview-nokia-maps-10-update/
the link is incomplete and does not work.
please update
Remind me what Nokia Maps is? Is the PC app that transferes the maps to the phone, or the maps app on the phone for navigation?
What are the improvements on the new version?
Thanks 😊
Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (SymbianOS/9.2; U; Series60/3.1 NokiaN95/12.0.013; Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 ) AppleWebKit/413 (KHTML, like Gecko) Safari/413)
N.Maps = Phone. Map Loader = PC
Got you, thanks....
So what improvements do you get then? I'd have thought that this new version would have been bundled with the lastest firmware update.
In fact, I read somewhere that with the latest firmware that Maps no longer had the tracking feature - so I had assumed the maps app was new.

The new Maps does track, press 0 on the key pad and it'll go to the GPS postition and track until you move it off.

Yes, but this is not what the tracing feature in "old" version does. This function is when you first select "plan a route" => The planned route is displayed on screen => you can then select "Start tracing" (or if it was "tracking..",don't remember) to view the route as well as your GPS position while trying to follow the route. Sort of a "mini route guidance" but without the voice or directional arrows.
This option is NOT in the new (or if it's a beta..) version.
When I mean tracking I mean that it draws a route on map which you can follow - i.e the next best thing to the full navigation.
Maybe it's not tracking that I mean :con?

You've described it correctly, this is "tracking". It's not available on the "new" version (although I suspect it's a beta..). You have to have a purchased license in order to do any kind of route navigation (you can of course plan a route wihout but not display it on screen and at the same time view your own GPS pos.).

Fair enough, I thought BanziBarn meant tracking your position. I only use it for short walks when I don't know the area, so no need for routes.

Thanks for finding the update, but does this program, when installed, NOT conflict with the already pre-installed Maps-application?
Don't you have 2 Maps icons in your phone now, or only one (the latest)?
Is this update multi-lingual, ie the Dutch language?
This will update the version you have on your phone to this version.
The UI is only available in English, but you're able to select the language for Voice Guidance, and Dutch is in there.
Do you need V12 firmware installed for this to work?
jdushe wrote:Do you need V12 firmware installed for this to work?
no, I had it working in v11 and also now in v12
Does anybody know how to restore the orginal version of Nokia Maps?
In my opinion the routing made by this newest version is even worse.
... and in general the routes proposed by both versions are very often strange.
I think it's high time to provide an upgrade of application by Nokia for us.
Great link Monica........... updated and i personally think it's a huge improvement here in Australia. GPS locks in almost instantaenously, and the overall ease of use has improved for mine...
Thanks for the link! The Maps app seems to run much smoother now, and finally the 2D/3D bug has been fixed! Before, if you changed to 3D mode, the crosshairs showing your GPS location were about an inch above the centre of the screen. Now its centred and you can see where you're going 😊
Question though... is there a way to rotate the map while still locked on your GPS location? I've found how to rotate the map but it doesn't stay fixed on your GPS location. You have to press GPS Pos to take the map back to where you are... at which point it's pointing north again!
Anyone that has already updated to this new version of Nokia Maps, is it possible to check what version it is (Options>About)??? Mine says v3.0 wk23 b01 OpenGL OpenBit MN. And from the link in the first post, the version that he has is v1.1 wk23 b04. So.. one of the versions is apparently outdated..
Thanks 😊
I just need to know if I try this version and want to roll back to the original version, is it possible ??
justnew wrote:any update !? :con?
I would expect a full format of the phone to get rid of it; *#7370#. You'll lose all your setings too.
justnew wrote:I just need to know if I try this version and want to roll back to the original version, is it possible ??
Yes, but only by performing a complete reset of the phone (so what you should do is to first perform a bkp and then install N.Maps. If not happy, reset phone and restore bkp).
thx guys but is there a place where it shows the procedure of doing a backup and restore a backup , a link will be fair enough ?
