N95 8GB unveiled

Nice, but Id prefer a slightly larger internal memory and a microSD slot. Especially since there is 8GB cards coming out that the N95 will support.

I think a question many original N95 owners will be asking is will the 1200 battery be compatible?

And Im thinking that the hardware might be a little better, and more robust from having learnt from the old N95.

Not really impressed. If there's no microSD slot what's the point? When the 8Gb card comes out memory is equal and may be surpassed if greater capacity cards come out.

Must admit am hoping the bigger battery is compatible.

Plus its useful to have seperate memory. And anyone who gets an 8GB card for the original N95 will then have more memory than the new one. As the onboard 8GB is the system memory too.

Recently, there was an issue where programs were not compatible, and swapping cards was the only way I could test things out.

But I reckon the biggest selling point will be that its black. Think Im wrong? Well just think of the huge amount of Iphones sold, theres a lot of fashion freaks out there 😉

my n95 is in black😎 but 8GB is enough for me tbh i really want it looks more robust

Assuming this is similar to the US N95-3 announced recently (and the photos seem to indicate it is):

There's no cover on the camera lens.
The phone is thicker than the N95-1.
The battery will not fit in standard N95s.

Also, the screen is slightly larger and the buttons smaller than those on an N95-1.

Where did u get a black model?? I didnt know other coloured faces were available

I like it, but something I have come to appreciate on my N95 is the camera cover. I can't believe they took it out, and having the memory fixed at 8 gigs is not good. Maybe that's enough right now, but in time you'll need more space. Having a bigger battery is a plus, though.

The phone is awesome. 8Gb is more than enough for me and 90 Mb of free memory instead of 18 is awesome. The color is great and looks like that it has better build quality of the phone (slider including). Also the bigger battery is great. The lens cover is really sad to be missing but guess is a fair tradeoff..... Looking foward to get one. Looks like October is the date?

For a Video - Camera with Carl Zeiss lens without protection is a great mistake indeed. If it takes a risk, is a great lost! All N95-8Gb seems more a money catch then a great improvement. :frown:

optical zoom then there's no point changing. For me at least.:frown:

why couldn't they put a VGA res screen if they're enlarging it?
A number of Japanese phones have VGA in the same screen size as the current N95.😉

Nope more usable RAM aside this isn't worth the money.😉

where's the digital TV reception? :con?

nope .. waits for N9x ..:frown:

Hi. Can anyone tell me whether this new n95 will be able to see videos such as those on the bbc etc or does it have the same limitations as my current n80 with regards flash video ? I'm very near to the end of my contract and obviously this would be a tempting upgrade if it was noticeably better than my n80... Thanks.

The 8GB N95 has identical software to the N95-1. The only differences are hardware-related (more memory, bigger battery, slightly larger screen and no camera cover).

The N95 will play Real streams from the BBC (with a bit of key pressing), but no phone at the moment supports the same range of videos as a PC.

I'm quite disappointed.

Its not much of an improvement over the existing N95-1 and loses the lens cover. If you think that the original N95 was announced in September last year and only available the following March, I can't see Nokia announcing an N95 8GB beater soon so we won't get a decent new model (N9n, N97?) for what seems a very long time.

I guess it has lost it's lens cover and slider to make room for the bigger battery. If that's the case the 1200mah battery won't fit into our standard n95s.

Hm, the size specs on nokias web seem a little inconsistent...

N95
Volume: 90cc Weight: 120g Length: 99 mm Width: 53mm Thickness: 21mm

N95 8GB
Volume: 96cc Weight: 128g Length: 99mm Width: 53mm Thickness: 21mm

How does it occupy more volume with the same outer dimensions? Anyway, still hoping against hope that the new battery will fit in my oldfashioned silver N95... 😎

I think I know why the bigger volume.
21 mm is the maximum in thickness. Since the N95 has a raised lens, that would be the 21 mm, but the rest of the phone would be thinner than that. Since the N95 8Gb has no raised lens, it is actually thicker as a whole.

I personally just dont like it (whether thats just because after getting my n95 Ive herd about the 8GB or whatever) Yeh it has a very good memory but the whole look of the thing just isnt as nice as the original. :icon13:

Because it's as you said "outer dimensions", hence length, width, thickness are maxium values. N95 are not overall 21mm thick, its 21mm where the camera sticks out.

Example: Thickness on "old" N95 is 21mm = it's where the camera lense sticks out, whole backside ain't 21 mm, most of it probably somewhere round 19,5mm. If you expand the backside on the N95 8GB to fit the new battery it will still not become thicker than where the camera is located but where there previously where 19,5mm is now 2x mm, and camera suddenly appears "sunked in". => Total volume has increased.

I do agree with that actually; when the rumours of the 8GB device were around, a lot of people were saying 'OMG BLACK!!!' but I don't actually like it that much.
