I'm really interested in getting this bluetooth keyboard for my Nokia N95 8GB:
http://www.mymemory.co.uk/memory/iGo/Stowaway/Ultra-Slim/Bluetooth/Keyboard
But a few quetions before I make the plunge...
Can this keyboard be used to work completely with the phone, so I don't have to touch the phone at all? So, is there a way of setting up the keyboard to work the LEFT, RIGHT, UP, DOWN, ENTER keys that I would otherwise have to touch the phone to work?
Also, I want to use the phone in landscape mode... This can be done fine on this keyboard, that's right isn't it?
Is there any bad points with this keyboard that I should know before I buy?
Many thanks! (sorry for all the questions!)
Hi Jim!
The most important note is that you must install the specific driver from
http://www.mobilityelectronics.com/support/Drivers.asp
Enter "Nokia Symbian 60" and "N73". Do *NOT* use N95!!!
Then select "Stowaway Universal Bluetooth Keyboard".

Yes!
Some key equivalents are (from memory):
Left option button: <Left fn> <Left space>
Right option button: <Left fn> <Right space>
Joypad direction keys: Arrow (cursor) keys
Middle joypad key: <Left fn> <Enter>
Menu button: <Left fn> <Windows key>

Yes! See above.
Also, you can program an entire row of keys as shortcuts. I'd advise having a quick look through the manual downloadable from the above link to explain how.

Yes, that is right.

There is only one issue that I have heard people mention, and have myself sometimes as well. That is, sometimes when pressing the down arrow to go quickly down a web page in the browser it goes straight to the bottom of the web page and appears to "lock".
Tweaking with the key repeat rate and delay can ease this, however it also does it on my N95 8GB WITHOUT the keyboard!!
Have fun mate, I know you will 😉
Wicked... Thanks for that.
You've answered everything I wanted to know... Just need some money to buy it now! Thanks again :icon14:
thxs, it helped me to orrder one, happy with it works 100% :icon14:

Hi Rolan73d, it most certainly IS compatible!!
It's what I use. I upgraded my N95 to the N95 8GB and it works great on both models.
Maybe it won't work because the batteries are flat?
Maybe because you're not putting it into pairing mode correctly? [Does the light on the keyboard flash when you put it into pairing mode?]
Maybe because you haven't typed in the correct pin code on the keyboard? [You must hold down the left fn key while typing the numbers]
Let's see if we can't get it working for you before you return it 😊
yeah I agree, it should work!

When using the original Nokia app 'bluetooth keyboard' it works but not all the buttons. Only the letters 2 write a text message...
When trying 2 connect it with N73 driver from the Igo site it just won't connect.
It keeps asking my 2 connect....
It's a little tricky to get it to connect, but once you got it it just works.
Just make sure you have disabled the Nokia driver as you shouldn't use that at all.
Note that you pair it from within the Stowaway app, not from the bluetooth app.

I'm presuming the N95-1 uses their 'N95' driver, right?
NO, you use the n73 driver, there isnt an n95 driver for the igo keyboard on the igo site. I can confirm that the n73 driver works as that's what i use.
On my N95, the above address for drivers isn't recognised, says there's no such page.
I download the driver onto my PC to install it onto my N95 from there, and the phone tells me the file is corrupt.
Anyone tell me what my next step is?

hi
you need to download the drivers for n73 to your n95 .. it works perfect, there are no n95 drivers....is this the site you are using from your pc

I just got mine today. These key combinations all work for me except for <left Fn><Windows>, which doesn't give me menu but does something bizarre with Truphone.
BTW, very pleased with my purchase. You can do genuine touch-typing with it.

No, I have been downloading n73 drivers, that's what I was talking about. And that's what happens... anyone else with a similar problem? When i run the file you've linked to, my N95 says it's corrupt... and won't recognise it at all if I link to it from the n95
I have one of these, and fully working with my N95-1 using the N73 driver.
Bargain at 17.99
Be quick though, as MyMemory keep changing their prices.
The sticker issue has been addressed, but not sure if old stock has run out yet.

You can get the S60 menu screen by keying left(blue)Fn - X.
According to MyMemory my iGO was dispatched last monday via royal mail. a week has passed and its not landed on my doorstep yet, how long did you guys have to wait?
Three days and I'm in canada.
thanks i'll give them a prod then, afterall its not like royal mail loose packages is it *sigh*
I've been looking at this and wonder just what are the differences that allow Nokia to charge 80 quid for their SU8W against the 18 quid you can get the iGo for? I had been thinking of getting Nokia's but then saw this thread and had a quick nose around. it seems too good to be true. Is it really just down to a few dedicated keys (that appear to be user configurable on the iGo anyway)?

correct... its just down to branding, well that and the nokia has more lights and a dedicated off button..... and a MMC slot??
Its like cars, chassis are shared/designs are mixed... one day you could be paying the guy £40 and hour to work on your car then he gets a job at Porshce/BMW/Audi/merc blah blah blah and your paying him twice the amount for the same time...

Interestingly, Nokia only list its product as compatible with Nokia products... iGo have a whole list... so as you a multi OS user that might be worth considering? Maybe not? I think its a now discontinued keyboard... hence the price?

Well, for the price of a couple of rounds of drinks, and your recommendation 😉, I took the plunge. As long as it works with the N95 for the next 6 months it should be ok.

To be honest, I hadn't used my keyboard for a little while now, but last night I was sitting infront of the t.v. and too lazy to go on my home PC so I just hopped on the net Via my N95. After about two minutes I though to myself, "why am I typing this through the keypad?" So I pulled out the keyboard and started surfing away in a much easier way!
One thing to note though, if you are dumb like me and threw out your quick index card thing that tells you how to pair, REMEMBER to hold the left FN key while pressing the number keys during pairing! LOL
You'll understand what I mean when you get yours but I'll briefly explain.
You set your keyboard to 'discoverable' (hold down the left CNTRL KEY, the BLUE fn key and the GREEN fn key and a green light will start to flash on the top leftish area of the keyboard) and the N95 will find it and then prompt you to enter a pairing key (standard for all bluetooth devices) and then you have to enter this key on the keyboard (it's numberical) so you have to hold the LEFT "FN" key while you press the number keys on the top of the keyboard.
Took me a few minutes to remember that.
good stuff chrsfrwll
waxup, thats a good point to post here, 'How to pair your iGo stowaway keyboard'... I chucked that card too and when I wanted to pair it with my PS3, I couldnt remember... so had to google it.

AHHAAH I have better... or should I say wilder! 😉 The missis is always moaning about it! 🙄
Well it arrived today, in a box the size of a shoebox. Put in the batteries, fired up the already installed sis, paired the two and everything worked perfectly. Tested in Active notes, Profimail and Word, and all ok, so very happy. Well, except for the sticker that covers the keys and case which is impossible to remove as it tears off in little strips and needs constant scraping to remove. Guess that's why it so cheap. Can't believe 17 quid buys a bluetooth keyboard, batteries and a case. Brill. :icon14:
