The first definitive review of the Nokia E66?

Of course Rafe's upcoming E66 review will be even more informed(!), but in the meantime, I've been very impressed by the thoroughness of Alfredo Padilla, in this exhaustive multi-page E66 review. Well worth a read if you're weighing up the strengths and weaknesses of this replacement for the popular E65.

Read on in the full article.

The Nokia E66 took an average of 30.72 seconds to start up and make a call.

Erm... who the heck switches their phone off when they're not making calls?

Do people realise that switching it off and on actually uses more battery life than leaving it switched on?

Well, people do sometimes run out of battery, and usually just when they need to call the ambulance.. 😊 So start up time is an interesting thing to know as it is for sure annoying to wait for close to a full minute for example.. I don't think he meant "and make a call" that literally though.

A very relevant point krisse,it uses more juice to power your phone on,then just leaving on in "standby",there are some exceptions, but for my needs for my N95 8GB is always on...😎

...but then the start up time is infinity. 😊

Well, I do wonder though. A lot of people who really should know better seem to think switching their phone off saves battery life, and then complain that the battery life is too short.

I noticed this a lot with the Nokia tablets too, it's one of the most frequently raised points on the tablet talk forums. People are amazed how long the battery really lasts if they don't switch the tablets off.

Im really l0oking 4ward 0n this ph0ne,currently i have an e51,but being at 500usd id rather have the n82 black packing m0re features

Its a rubbish review by the way, waitng f0r m0re reliable review fr0m aas

Funny seeing in how many things Palm OS beats the E66! S60 mighty be the best UI around (imho) but it's certainly not perfect!

I specially like how he raised the point of the ridiculously long refresh time when opening the music player.

Although their time measuring method is really flawed, since you can just move the icons.

People that work in hospitals and many other places where phones are required to be off. (off not on silent or offline).

Yes Yes..... because that actually happens 🙄 you obviously don't know too many people who work in hospitals 😛

Hospitals..... No
Petrol Stations..... No

Planes.... Yes but then that's slowly becoming a point that's going to diminish over the next few years.

I work in a hospital in radiography and DI and we have an OFF (not offline) policy. The reason for the OFF policy is that there are many phones that don't have just an offline mode and many users of phones don't even know the difference between on and offline on their phones. So, the simplest and safest policy is all off. Pagers are excluded as being tested and approved. Breaking the rule is disciplinary. I have to walk a fair distance to where I can switch on and phone.

So, thanks knowitall.

Would it have the same effect with switching off and then on the phone if I have switch it to the offline mode, say before going to bed in order to avoid the bad health effects of a phone, and then switch to, say to general mode or something when I wake up?
