The camera is Shite compared with the 7650

Is it just me or is the picture quality absolutely terrable compared with the 7650, maybe mine as broke but there is NO focus at all, where as the 7650 would Auto focus on the object, I've messed around with all the settings and it makes no difference to the focus only the light, were as the 7650 would actually make a difference to the object....the quality of the Photos are more or less the same, but the P800 can't judge distances at all.

Here is what I mean

With the 7650 I would have been able to read the writing on the Memory Stick, and the Auto Night feature of the 7650 was bliss compared with all the messing about you have to do with the P800.

I know someone is going to tell me to go buy a DigiCam but that's not the point i'm trying to make, where is the focus??????

If the shot is a fair distance away the pictures are great, it's just all of this close up stuff....it's really annoying me 😞

Well maybe someone could release a proper photo program and show SE how it was supposed to be done

I know it can't be done yet, but i'm sure there will be one down the line a bit later

I think there is something wrong with your P800, The camera is much better than 7650 with me, I think u should clean the camera lens, and try to test it again in a better light conditions, The default settings work good.

Sorry to say but i totally agree. The 7650 takes much much better pics than the P800. I did post something abt this early on, asking any advice on how to improve picture quality since i too fiddled with all the settings, trying to find if i can find the trick to make it get better photos. Its an irony though. Sony is supposed to make great digital cameras. They have several good digicams on the market anyway. Why not use this experience with the P800? Totally BS if you ask me

Aren't you asking too much from a fixed focus lens?
Good picture quality at short distances is where a good dedicated digicam stands apart from a bad one. More to do with optics than with software.
If from 1m onwards quality is OK then I would say that is nominal for a camphone.

As for 7650 being better so far I could always tell a 7650 pic from a P800 pic the 7650 had always more blured edges. A price to pay for the ability to focus closer? Maybee, but personally I would not trade better close range focus for less edge quality on standart social-event situation.

I have to agree with Afonso...

Although the quality at short distances, and in low light, are not that good, for the standard social event, the P800 does the job fairly well. The whole point being to address those times where you would've said "aww, I wish I had a camera!"

Like my father said, "If you really wanted something that could take good pictures, you should have bought a 3-megapixel camera."

As you can see, I've taken a few pictures at "close range" and posted them below.

One is of the memory stick, and the other of the forum as seen on my Mac.

Also included is a shot of my car, so that you can see how the P800 does at distance shots.

Well I agree with ease of use my 7650 is easier and has almost the same pic quality compared with the P800. At low light the 7650 is far better than the P800 even when I paly around with the settings. I changed my 7650 thinking the P800 is better and had video (which was a confusing advert to me) but the P800 pics are better viewed on your computer. Strage SONY should do better since they make good digital cameras! but i think SE should have better contrast with the LCD scrren itself compared to the 7650 the pics lacks color . something SE should look at. a simple adjustment in contrast can make daylight pics viewed better 😊 but still they have to improve on LOW LIGHT shots and make a simple button for that to switch to low level light

I have serious doubts that Sony's digital camera department was even consulted about the SE P800's built in camera. My guess it was an off the shelf (as it were) solution from a third party vendor.

"you want a 640 by 480 CCD camera? we have a whole range of micro-mini raw mounts! here's the cheapest but the quality is well, okay I guess! oh, that's good enough? Great - you'll take 500,000? Even better!"

Hi guys just a question.
A friend of mine is going to buy a P800.
He already has t68i with the latest communicam (I think it is MC22)
Can he use the mc22 instead of P800 communicam?
I have heard that the mc are far better than the p800 communicam
(and I have also seen that it is a lot better than my 7650's camera)
