Nokia's LifeviNe project has been renamed, it seems, to just Nokia ViNe: Jeff Clinton provides a detailed walkthrough of the application and service, for automatically logging your photos, videos and listened music, for sharing with the world, while Ricky Cadden asks whether the application makes sense, pointing out that it doesn't give much that's new and worrying about possible battery drain implications. I'd echo some of his worries, preferring to simply geotag my photos and upload them to Ovi or Flickr or similar. What do you think of Sports Tracker's evolution?
Read on in the full article.
To some extent there was a problem with the name itself of the original app: "sports tracker" implies an exercise-related app, but you could use it for a lot more than that. Just a new name without any alteration to the app itself would have done a lot to help it reach a wider audience.
It's a bit like Nokia's promotion of TV Out, they just talk about it in terms of viewing photos and videos, but you can actually do practically any phone function through it.
They're trapping themselves within niches unnecessarily.
I agree with Ricky, (The Guru), beleive Nokia ViNe is a waste of time, not sure why there is a capital N in there too, maybe for NSeries, i don't know. Its certainly a confusing implementation.
Ovi + ViNe = OviNe
Suddenly I feel a sheep for choosing Nokia.
we humans needs to set ourselves free from the central computer, or else we all will be slaves
why do we need an application to track every move we make every tune we listen to or every picture we take ?.
Pointless and silly. Don't need my phone to track every move I make.
Hey Nokia... how about getting back to the basics and fixing power consumption instead of stupid apps.
well from the latest N and E series phones that have been released, and the upcoming ones, they HAVE greatly improved battery consumption.
nokia need to have ONE decent service
not 10s of incompatible overlappign ones

all overlapping not to mention all the others...

arrgh - Im really trying to fall in love with my N95 all over again, But Ive run into a case of nokia multiple personality disorder. I have the following username/password combos:
* nokia account
* ovi account
* share online account - ok this is really flickr
* n-gage account
* sports tracker account
* club nokia
* my nokia
* nokia chat
all different - all essentially nokia. Now I assumed when I signed up for a nokia account it would sort all this. But no, in fact I can see no purpose to the nokia account at all. Unless its going to sort it all?
mac
I am a little puzzled about all the negative feedback. 1) On battery - well, you know its going to drain the battery, so don't use if you know you won't be able to charge relatively soon (not that its that big a problem to get a recharge even when travelling) 2) I suspect quite a few people will find it cool to be able to easily track your whereabouts and map your pics and not have to everytime worry about downloading your Shozu's or whatnot to get sorta the same but not quite (for example, AFAIK, simply geotagging your pics and uploading them to Googlemaps or whatnot does not give you easy access to them later tagged to your trip, and in the order they were taken etc.; it could also start a small phenomenon whereby, I don't know, e.g. architecture or food or wine enthusiasts will form web networks where they report on their trips to each other 3) Its the first iteration, and in beta at that 4) who knows where web2.0 whatever its called, least Nokia - so they are trying various things to see what sticks.
In sum, I think its pretty cool and will certainly try it - I travel a lot and leave a part from most of my family - something like this could be quite handy.
I would give this viNe thing a chance.
Granted that this application could drain battery, but I don't think battery will be a big issue to overcome.
I am carrying extra battery and memory card for my Canon IXUS 5MP digital camera when I go on holidays. Simply because the risk of not having the spares when you need it is unforgivable.
If this application really do what it can do, I would not have a problem to bring along extra battery or extra phone(oh forbid), just so to be able to record my memory trails and adventures. (Here, I saw a crocodile with a ripped LV bag, and here, a very mad lady in kungfu stance and my boss ring me...)
I would give it a chance. Maybe a few chances, so that they can perfect it. Just don't orphan it, and please keep it free to use.
Disclaimer: I uses SportsTracker, and am happy to see this evolution.
