I have the N85 Copper

If anyone would like any " off spec /website" questions answering. I'll gladly oblige.

Thanks IJM!

I have two questions that I'd be really grateful for definite answers to:

1) Can you set the FM radio as an alarm tone? And if so, could I set a second alarm to be a normal alarm tone? Say, the radio comes on at 6:30 then an alarm tone rings at 7:00?

2) With or without the use of 3rd party software (ok I know it's early days!) can it play WMV windows video files?

Cheers mate! :icon14:

Hi mate,

1. The alarm tone options are only letting you select and MP3 from your list or a default alarm tone.

2. At the moment, there is no support for WMV. I do believe "Coreplayer" are due to release a version soon which does support this format.

IJM wrote:I'll get back to you. I've not installed iPlayer onto it yet.

so it isn't even pre-installed?
interesting - are you in the UK?
or is it a grey import?

I thought it was the N96 that has it pre-installed, not the N85?

It's only the N96 that has it pre installed. But it is available for the N95 as a Widget. I've not tested it on the N85.

interesting stuff. I'll check it out for the UK version I should have winging its way from womworld/nokia...

Just an update about WMV. I tried a WMV v9 file and it played fine. 😊

It works fine with the inbuilt player. WMV files appear in the Video Center and clicking on them opens and plays.

Tried with a few WMV files now and all work fine.

have you tried installing the conversation app, vbag or magic key? Im thinking of getting one but I want it to be compatible with the apps I want...you think u can list the apps u found out that work and dont work? thatd relaly help make my decision thx

the N95 was on battery-life when it first came out .. give the 85 a few firmware updates ... to get even 😊

u reckon it'll even up it's slider ??

with the N85's slider - and I didn't have a problem with the N95's one either .. clearly Nokia have a few different production facilities dotted around the place .. if you're unlucky you get one from the poorer quality controlled plants ..

There was/is a method to figuring out where your N95 was made .. I assume similar methods could apply to the N85/96/79 ..

might be interesting to build a bit of a map
.. mine has 3 stamps on the bar-code label ... C.S. T/S and Q.C.6
.. just has Made By Nokia
.. I'm sure its Chinese coz it came out of HongKong.

I dont have a massive issue with the slider... but it does feel a little loose on open... not a problem... just commenting on it.

The one I have is Made In Finland. Not sure what stamps you are talking about though Seki, unlesss you meant the box stamps??

they live on the bar-code label on the box. 😊

Does anybody's thumb ache here too when using the Navi key on the N85? The navi key and its neighbours(call key, end call, video center) are too hard to press. I think neat and trimmed nails are the problem with this phone's operation.

I hate the Navi Key, it's pretty much useless.

The Menu and Cancel buttons along with Red and Green buttons are a little hard to press too!

What's your experiences with the camera been so far? Image quality, physically taking a shot and the software.

Thanks.

you have to press the camera key in too far, which means you get a shake when you take the picture which means you get a blurred picture. Have made that comment in my sticky at the top of this forum and its been the opinion of others too. 😞

Good flash tho! 😉

Example photo of my living room at the moment. I consider myself to have a pretty steady hand and have taken some amazing photos on my N95 in the past even when in amongst the pushing and shoving of your average indie/rock gig but the blur on this, in particular the green on light of the tv is awful :frown:

camera is decent during daylight, it gets worse as we approach night time hours, i think it has a bit too much of a lag but its easily fixable through a firmware update as is the battery performance, speed overall...tho this phone is the speediest n series i have ever had my hands on

seki,
where can i find the link to this method of identifying where your N95 was made?
thanks.
