Don't worry angiepea, it's nothing personal. I get the same message and am unable to view it.

Of course, if you're a conspiracy theorist, then it could all be a plot orchestrated by Nokia. Not that I want to make davecozens paranoid. He's got enough problems with the Nokia Cosa Nostra after him... 😎

Now at 700 signatures!

Anovo phoned today to say that they'd received my old N97 and they'll be UPSing my new one to me before 10am tomorrow... Wonder how the lens'll be...

Ready for a good old scratching I would imagine...

If you do notice the dreaded scratches appearing, the fix 'biggzy' posted (pop lens cover off, add small pieces of sellotape to bottom and refit) seems to be working for me. It seems there is only a fraction of a millimetre in it, and the tape seems to make the difference.

Just reading the transcript of the Nokia CEO's opening speech today and I notice they claim to have sold 2 million N97s (although I don't know if that figure takes account of returns).

2 Million N97s probably equates to about 1.5 Million scratched lenses. That's a lot of trips to Nokia care points. Think of the additional damage they are doing to the environment with all those extra bits of plastic. All so unecessary if they had responded positively to the problem a bit sooner.

Here's the funny bit...

I received my "new" n97 this morning via Anovo.

Rather oddly the screen protector was badly fitted with some fingerprints under it and it had an Orange payg SIM in it... Plus a wobbly SIM slider and some light scratching under where the battery slides in and out.

After a quick phone call to Anovo they now assure me that the replacement they'll send me before 10AM tomorrow will not be a refurb....

We'll see... *sigh* And I wanted to play with new maps today 😞

And people wonder why I am reluctant to leave my phones with a Nokia service point! 😮

If you live in Norwich, take it to the Digital Phone Company. (Nokia Care Point)

They replaced my scratched Lens and GPS antenna in 2 and a half hours yesterday, both are now working great..

This wasn't via a care point. This was via Anovo (Nokias UK repair/replace company) who'd phoned and told me they'd be sending out a shiny new replacement handset for me - they phoned me, on instruction from Nokia to tell me this...

I don't want my flagship device replaced with a refurb, thanks very much. Refurb means "sent back by somebody else already"...

No matter. New (believe it when I see it) N97 being shipped from warehouse for delivery before 10am tomorrow....

Well... has it arrived?

Is it new?

What's wrong with it?

Update please Dave.

See above, starting with "Here's the funny bit..."

A new update tomorrow no doubt. They'll probably send me the wrong phone this time....

B*gger!

Have you ever considered that you may well be the "Jonah" of the Nokia phone world?

I still have my trusty Nokia 3210 if you want it.

I'm not helping am I?

I'll get me coat.

Some people are getting the lens and GPS fixed at nokia care points/service centres?

Ooh, rubs hands with glea. 2.5 hours?

That's more like it.

Reckon the Carphone Warehouse at the Fort in Birmingham would suffice?

I'm thinking more Job than Jonah... 😉

But I think the only reason I'm getting a replacement is because I'm pushing really hard in multiple directions: - petition, forum rants, emails to [email protected], harrassing the press office, etc

They're now shipping before 10am just to make me go away....

No matter. By 10AM tomorrow *crosses fingers* I'll get a replacement, non-refurb N97...

As God said to Job, "Brace yourself like a man."

Just to update -

I have a new N97. It appears not to be a refurb.

I've NSS'd the product code so it's now Euro 1 rather than UK generic, and I'm nwo running the V12 firmware.

Maps beta looks nice & shiny. Can't comment on GPS reliability but I've 180 mile drive later so watch this space....

Lens cover aint scratched yet but the assembly doesn't look any different. I'll be watching it like a hawk.

Lifecasting looks amusing. I can irritate my friends with "Dave is on the M5", "Dave is a bit further along the M5" posts on facebook. Shame it can't be automated... it's no fun if I have to do it myself...

Not installing messaging (although I'll miss my email) because I can't spare the C:\ space.

Never got anything good off N-Gage. Not installing that till I hear otherwise.

Make the most of this everybody...

Dave seems to be a happy bunny with his N97 (at the moment!). 😃

Hi Dave, Google Latitude updates automatically..

You should try the Lens fix by Biggsy, a prevention step, fairly easy to do, especially if like me, you dont trust it not happening again!

Does lattitude automatically update facebook so you can irritate people though?

I don't want to homebrew fix my flagship device though. If it does it again, Nokia can damn well replace it again...

(you're going to start me off again you know)

Haha, sorry!

No true, it doesn't update your status, most people tend to try not be irritating though :-P

Right. There we go. In spite of excessive levels of care I have my first lens scratch. 36 hours into ownership.

As luck would have it it's on the non-led side of the lens, so no impact for now. But still, it's there...

Time to start giving Nokia a hard time again...

Do you work on the beach or something?!?! LOL 😉

36 hours in and you have a scratch, and I'm 2weeks in and nothing yet. I'm perplexed. Am I just lucky?

Do you use a case?
