I have an un-branded N97 which I purchased from Hong Kong and is now using it in Canada. No updates found as well on PC Suite.

Nop
UPD works great . all apps (java, widgets, sisx) are available .. nothing lost
....
About the update ... everything runs faster and smoother ...

Can anyone tell me whether this update fixes the GPS losing lock while navigating problem?

I've got a UK Voda branded handset, but would be happy to debrand if this fixes the issue.

Nope
Still got the problems ...

Ohhh yeah, fixing (or at least improving) reception of either GPS or GSM would be very cool. However, for my version (ordered @ Nokia via the Dutch website) there is no update available yet. I'll follow this thread closely 😃

Ringtone bug is still there - I think the problem is that the N97 has problems using MP4's for ringtones. It seems like if the MP4 is not played quick enough, then the phone will do the default Nokia Tone. Changed it back to an MP3 instead and it works a little bit better..

The slider unlock bug is fixed as far as I can see though - one flick instead of three like before.. my Roadsync was stuffed though and had to reinstall (no big deal).

I had the problems with MP4. I use AAC encoded stuff now and this gives the same problem. Also video ringtones sometimes default back to the Nokia tune. Did not try straight MP3s though...

is it a good idea to do a hard reset before updating the firmware? or just update the phone with all programs installed, messages etc?

"Latest release for Nokia N97 is 11.0.021"

This is what the Nokia website says, I have an unbranded black N97 (same as Dave's I think?). Can't see why this doesn't work.

Just upgraded mine last night seems to be working better on touch screen specially i have to install the Garmin to see about GPS locking working good on nokia naps though will update later if there are any more issues 😊

Updated my N97 NAM to v12 last night.

After completion, it hung on the Nokia screen on start-up requiring removal of battery to get a clean reboot.

After reboot, home screen widgets were very slow to update but finally did.

No change in GPS functionality (see other thread on Ovi Maps 3.x not being compatible for N97 per Nokia's website). Will reset this weekend and go back to Maps 2.0 which worked much better than 3.0 or 3.1.

Received mail icon in upper-right status area now clears after you read your unread messages and email (not a big improvement, but at least one!).

Haven't gotten the web browser to hang (probably the improvement to the cache overflow which last listed as one of the problems fixed).

C: drive memory usage still the same (no improvement).

Slide lock...seems to have slowed response when using it, BUT what I have observed is that it will work after one activiation--but you have to "wait for it".

I just updated to v12 from v11 on T-mobile after changing product code to 0570817 now getting white screen [with Nokia]

I updated the other day to 12.0.024 and all is fine.

The only problem I had previously was the unlock slider, which is now fixed. Everything else is 100% Including the GPS.

I feel sorry for you guys with all the problems you are reporting here, I do not have these problems. Maybe I was lucky.....

I'm not sure exactly what is wrong with the software updates - is it specific to phones that have had their product code changed? And if so, is this a bug or a deliberate attempt to break the phones?

I changed my product code from 3 UK to Euro 1 using JAF and flashed the FW to v11. The phone worked fine at this point. I subsequently reinstalled v11 using NSU, to ensure the installation was working properly. The phone worked fine afterwards. I just updated to v12 with NSU, and got the "flashing white screen of death". A hard reset salvaged the phone.

Should I stick to JAF from now on? I'd like to know if it's NSU that isn't working, or if I have somehow irreversably altered the phone in some way that makes updates crash the phone?
