-Brekkie

Damn you Nokia! Just tell us when!

well hopefully someone in the middle east/asia will post on the forum if they've been able to upload the new firmware on the 10th - so that i don't have to sit up til the early hours of the 11th clutching my usb cable 😊

I'm not even going to comment on that image!

Seriously though, with the release beginning in the Middle East and Asia, as angipea states, we will at least get a heads up in Europe about the v20 release... if indeed it is this weekend.

I just hope that Nokia don't cock it up as with the v12.0.026 release which was withdrawn for awhile.

Its true not to expect anything, but it has been hyped up. So therefore I AM expecting it to be good!!

v21 anyone?

When it comes available, the only good things it will do is kinetec scrolling everywhere, and album art added to music lists.

Everything else will just be minor fixes to minor problems that don't affect me (or many people, i don't know).

I don't use VIOP so that, a problem for some, doesn't bother me.

I have removed all the original apps and installed the ones i want onto the mass memory so i don't have a problem with the C:\ drive at the moment.

Other than my shi*ty shi*ty GPS, scratched camera lens and badly fitting back cover, i have no problems with my N97.

All of those being hardware faults which firmware cannot fix.
(should be being fixed now because i've sent it off to nokia to be fixed for 2nd time)

I must say that I'll take the V20 release when it comes. I'll have to wait longer for it as I have a VF branded phone and I havn't, yet, seen the need to debrand it.

This is in complete contrast to my N95 which I had debranded within an hour of the delivery arriving - I bought that specifically for SIP, which VF did not allow back then. I suspect they won't allow it now, always assuming that a SIP stack will make it into V20, and currently we have no idea.

Still, I use Fring for Skype and as a SIP gateway, and I've even installed the "sawn off" client for Truphone which makes use of their Truphone Anywhere service.

So when I want to not make a GSM call because of the expense, I have plenty of means of doing so.

Regards
Neil

I'm beginning to hyperventilate a little 😃

Do you realise that by de-branding you have invalidated your N97 warranty? I hope that doesn't affect your breathing even more!

at least we'll have some idea whether the release "schedule" is real.

...and that 'someone' from the Middle East could well be yours truly.

By all accounts, our v20 is out on Saturday. The only problem, is that our weekends here in Saudi are Thursday and Friday, so its back to work on Saturday. It's going to be a full day at work, then home to load up the new FW - if it's out.

If all goes to plan, will post up late Saturday afte rit's done and after I've played around with it for a bit.

At the moment, the phone is playing silly buggers. After every 4/5 phone calls, the phone just hangs. Have to re-boot, and certainly hope that is sorted, otherwise, it's bye bye N9, I'm not having a phone that I have reboot after taking phone calls.

"major overhaul of the PR1.x baseline. In fact, there is so much new stuff included that we will first introduce PR2.0 via NSU"

Quite like the sound of that....

Also, is this confirmation that UK users indeed won't get version 1.2? "What comes to N97 PR1.2 for UK, I'd recommend to sit still and update to PR2.0."

Well, its the 10th, I'm in the Middle East with my ME ( unbranded ) phone, and still no signs of a SW update, been checking regularly for the last couple of hours too.

sorehammer wrote:so what does (major overhaul of the PR1.x baseline) mean please.

I think it means that they've re-written the code for most of v1X and put it in v20, to fix bugs and improve efficiency etc.

The Above schedule is Correct but the releasing Date Has Postponed according to Nokia UK Discussions. We'll Update the Topic as soon as we received a Confirmed Information For the Final Release Date and it won't be more than a Week.

I am not sure about the origin of the above but what I can say is that the schedule is incorrect.

We are for sure putting the N97 PR2.0 out for public download as soon as possible. PR2.0 will be a major overhaul of the PR1.x baseline. In fact, there is so much new stuff included that we will first introduce PR2.0 via NSU. The schedule for PR2.0 is still not verified, but I'd expect to find the open market versions being distributed by the end of this month (this is not a promise). You will be notified of the new SW availability via myNokia (are you a member yet?) and the in-built SW update application on your N97, which will notifiy you about new firmware releases in NSU and/or FOTA as well as core application updates such as Maps etc.

FOTA updates to PR2.0 will follow in due course.

I know that there is a lot of anticipation for this release and therefore we are putting an extra effort to ensure that your update experience will make it worth the waiting.

In addition to the above, next week we are introducing the latest version of the NSU client so be aware that you will have to update your currently installed version. The main changes in the new client include support for the N900 product as well as some minor improvements.
