my firmware is 2.50. Any settings i took resulted in general error. dint try installin it on the phone thou
Oh dear 😉 I hope that if I find out something that might remedy this you are willing to give it another try as it would be most valuable to me in order to prevent it from happen to others too 😊 Came to think of it: Are you using some other app that might "collide" with JS-Cam?
New camera application
Great to hear you think it is a good application! 😃
GhostDog: Were you able to take better pictures with your 7650 using my app than would have been possible using the built-in?
Regarding its "license": I am a person who likes freeware myself, some of you might have noticed that it is me who has made the WAP-enabled version of phpBB, also that I have a SMS sending PC program available for free. Making this app a freeware is surely "tempting" looking at it from that point of view! On the other hand I, as every person, need money to make a living 😉 So my question to you here on this forum is (knowing that freeware is number 1, hehe): Would you consider paying for it? And if yes, how much feels "reasonable"? Of course the app has to be further developed before that, like the settings to be permanent 😉
Regarding "open source": I also like the open source idea, it's a "kind and generous" way of handling software development. But it also "demands" the source code to follow (almost) every design rule there are in order to not require a lot of time to support the people looking at it. As I wrote this is my first attempt to make a Symbian application, that means for sure I haven't followed the "syntax rules" like it is intended when developing Symbian C++ applications, in the sense of for ex. giving varibles their names, etc, etc. So I feel this is not "good enough" to "show up" for all experienced Symbian developers who are out there 😉
howz this sound?
donation-ware? or shareware.. if u like it, donate. not compulsory.
another idea is u make specific versions for say.. businesses or telcos. ie. u ask them "If i make u a special version u can distribute to ur customers; how much will u pay me?".. and so on.

That I don't understand, I doesn't happen to me. Is there someone else experiencing this?
Yes,it happened to me too,but i'm using a 7650.
BTW: i did some testing during the day and the pictures taken with JS-Cam are less pixelized then then ones taken with the builtin app.
That I don't understand, I doesn't happen to me. Is there someone else experiencing this?
Didn't happen here either on 3650 but today it happen in 7650. It resets the settings that I have saved...
With 3650 - settings are saved. With 7650 - settings were saved too but after a day, it resetted to the default.. not a big deal since we can edit again. I have the feeling that you can fix it 😉

great app worked fine.
little bug i think:
you can add your own details to the settings page
Haha! Cool feature! Wasn't aware of that myself
That's because you have a CAknForm as your settings page. CAknForm has those menu options built-in (btw, they are in Finnish in my phone 😉 ).
That's one example how open source developers could give their helping hand. For example I could write you a "proper" settings page 😉
Baggis, if you really want to make some money from this app then I suggest that you arrange a demonstration to Nokia (or another company that uses Symbian) and try to sell it to them. I haven't tried your app yet, but if it gives significant picture quality improvement, they may be interested to integrate it into the firmware of the 3650/3600.
Note that this is already a successful tactic for companies like Hantro(camcorder s/w) plus this guarantees some income from a reliable source.
regards.
I've tried the app already. The pictures are really in good quality 😊 One thing i noticed though is the click sound is delayed... but no big deal 😊
With 3650 - settings are saved. With 7650 - settings were saved too but after a day, it resetted to the default..😉
"After a day"? Do you mean that you are able to save the settings, exit the app, restart the app and your settings are still there? If so then the app is magic somehow, haha!, as I haven't implemented persistent saving of the settings at all (not yet that is 😉 ) Or do you mean that if you leave the app running in the background it gets reset "after a day"?

Yes, told you people I am learning Symbian 😉 In this case open source would have been helpful, that's true, but maybe I had missed the "feeling" of finding out how to get rid of those menu options myself then, a "feeling" I also like 😉
To get an Series 60 open source project started maybe we should think of some other app that we Series 60 users "need" and start up a brand new open source project for that? I've seen examples of apps people would like to have in this forum. What do you think?

Yes, I know 😉 I made it "click" after the image is taken AND saved, therefore it is delayed. I might change that to make the click after the image is taken, but before it is saved, and instead show a message telling that the image is getting saved 😊
ok 😊 that would be great! 😊
hi,
when is the picture saved ?!
if i make a picture and the picture is shown on the screen. is it now safe and i can move the phone ?!
if it like that than its cool. if it not its ok.
cya amigappc he like ur app

The picture is "taken" as soon as it gets "frozen", from that point to the click sound it gets saved to the memory. That means you can move the camera immediately after the picture "freezes", but not quit the app until the click sound hears. I understand this isn't the most "logical" way of handling it so I will change it so that the click sound hears when it is safe to move the camera, combined with an info message telling that the images is getting saved 😊

LOL... sorry if I did not make myself clear. OK here is the story...
Installed the camera app in 7650 and 3650. Edited the settings in 7650 for the camera app, it was saved and it captured an image.. then I kept capturing using different settings (edit then save then capture). Every time I will capture again the settings from the previous session is there which means it is saved... I'm so satisfied
After a day ----> I use again the camp app to capture an image but the settings has changed back to the original settings which means I have to edit the settings and save it. That is not big deal since it's easy to edit & save 😉
The above story never happens in 3650. I mean.. whatever settings I edited and saved.. it is still here whenever I launch the cam app.. this is cool for me coz your cam app in my 3650 remembers the settins that I edited and saved.
In the 3650, the settings aren't saved also 😊 It keeps changing back to its default everytime I open the app or when i restart my phone 😊

Yes, that is what I expect it to do as I haven't added permanent storing of the settings 😉 (I wrote that in the Read Me file, hehe) What amazes me is if the settings really get saved and restored on closing and re-opening the app! That should be "impossible"! (If it in fact happens then there is some kind of "auto-magic" I am so far unaware of) 😉
oh ok 😊 It just shows that I don't read the "read-me" files or the documentation! hehe! Anyway, this might help other people who doesn't read them also! 😊 hehehehe!

Cool! my 3650 can do magic!!! it can save your cam app settings though you didnt let it save LOOOOOOOOL 😉
Seriously, that is what I noticed... the settings that I have edited and saved was still here on my 3650 even though I rebooted the phone 8)

Actually I have enabled support for so called INI files used to save an app's settings, but I didn't expect it to work "by itself" as I only have enabled it without actually explicit using it, hehe. However, I expected even less that it would work on some phones, sometimes, and not work at all on other phones 😉 Programming can be fun sometimes, haha!
Tried the app. Images are definately improved.
JPEG artifacts are either much reduced or not there
, I'm impressed. (using a 3650).
I always thought that the jpeg compression of the 3650
images was overly harsh, especially when 128MByte
MMC cards are available. Here's a question for you all :
is an 80kByte 3650 jpeg picture really 640X480 resolution ?
Isn't it effectively worse than this due to the compression ?
regards.
I installed the software but when I tried to take a picture - it keeps saying "general system error!" 😞
I installed the software but when I tried to take a picture - it keeps saying "general system error!" 😞
Hmmm.. Happens you too?!?! This is really strange, on most phones it works, but some refuses to save the images giving "General system error" instead. This begins to look like "Windows", hehe, not predictable results due to strange phenomenas! Which firmware version are you on? Which other apps have you installed, especially other camera apps? Which settings have you tried? Where did you install it, phone or MMC? Many questions, hehe, but I really would like to know what causes this!

My phone is the lucky two or three? 😉
No errors in using your cam application and MOST of all, it does magic hahaha
It is understandable because different users have different firmware, different 3rd party applications that might conflict and another thing is your cam app is still in Beta.
Cool to have it working properly 😃 on my phone.
I have the same problem everytime I took photo with my 7650

I would say that this wide spectra of strange behavior is somewhat unexpected 😉 It feels like "basic services" my app relies on fails, like saving an image using a call to the operating system. If making apps to Series 60 and/or Symbian means facing strange things like this it will surely be a challenge, for good and worse, hehe!
hi,
if i turn the settings to
100%
444
no
mmc
then i became an general error and the apps is closing.
i get also the errorcode
-33
also if i open the app and let the app run in the background to keep the settings saved it gives me after few minutes an error and close himself.
but ur app is pretty good. i love it. it shoot the pic and u can shoot again without pressing the button.
cya amigappc do u want to have the german translation ?!
Tried your settings, got no error. Tried to put it in the background, restored it to foreground and finally got any error myself! "Program closed, ViewSrv 11" it said. If I can reproduce it I might find out what is causing it 😊 However, I will have little time to work on it the nearest days as I am going to the mountains for skiing tomorrow, so nothing will happen until at least next week 😉
I remember your kind offer about translation 😃 I will contact you later on when the bugs have been "killed", hehe!
Seems to me that daniatt is the luckiest person who got the 3650! 😊 No problems at all and it can do magic! Where did you get your phone? hehehe! Interesting... coz mine has problems 😞

I'm sure that my 3650 is the same as others 3650. I am seeing error too but not in Baggis software or a memory problem.
The normal error that I am seeing is something to do with an application that is developed for 7650 but I'm trying to to test it by installing in 3650 or by installing it in the MMC.
What I usually do is after each install of any application, i will always restart the phone whether the application don't need a restart. I treat the phone just like a PC operating system that most of the times need to be restarted to refreshens the memory or for the application to take effect. I'm not sure if this the reason why I don't see other errors like what others are seeing.
Another thing is I do not back-up a corrupted Symbian files because it is useless to back up a corrupted file then later restoring a corrupted system files.
The most important thing that I always remember to do is close any running programs (those apps that are running in the background, if any) before installing or uninstalling anything. I've learned my lesson on this.. I once installed Trigenix or Wild skiz (I couldn't remember) and forgot to disable it before uninstalling it and there "System Error" appeared many times. I'm so thankful that it did not screw up the MMC or the phones internal memory. Willbradys' tip on Wild skinz is very useful.. Wildpalm should mention this so that users will be able to safely remove the application Wild skinz.
I had a bad 3650 phone last time. It is a defective 3650 phone. I dont see any error but I noticed that every time I will open the built-in camera, it will simply restart the phone. I rushed to Nokia center and they checked the phone. They told me that the "camera hardware" is faulty. They asked me if I want them to repair or replace with new device. Of course, I prefer a new 3650
They gave me a new one (with different IMEI#) then I have to e-mail the developers to send me a new license code for the applications that I have since the IMEI# has changed.
enough said 😉

i see! 😊 thanks for the tip! I'll keep that in mind... 😊
