Have just UPDATED your firmware? SHARE YOUR EXPERIENCE HERE!

The purpose of this topic is simply just to keep each other informed on the arrival/avaibility of certain firmware in your respective country...

Please try not to post any question here... UNLESS necessary..
😉 Just post the updates whenever u guys upgrade yours (only if its different from what posted here...)

For example,

I'm in Malaysia, today i have updated mine... so here it is:

DATE: APRIL 17
PLACE: ERICSERVE SERVICE CENTRE
COUNTRY: MALAYSIA

PHONE: R2D
BLUETOOTH: R5A
ORGANISER: R2A16
CDA: R3A12

P/S: 😉 Please do not post any bullshit updates here... hehehe...

😃 just got home from the service center here singapore. My phone had the same config/specs as yours. I think the latest should show the same for every country, unless they pass out the R1D as the latest firmware.

The situation in Holland:

Asked a local dealer with a service point today. They said there latest version (on the phone part) was R1D and they would get R1F next week :-?

Was hoping they would tell me they had R2D :-? :-?

😞

Im not sure i see the point of this thread.. Everyone knows the latest firmware is Phone-R2D, its just a question of whether their country/town's SP has it yet...

Surely if you're going to go to the trouble of going there to get the update, you'd make a quick call first to find out if it was worth the trip.

Presumably all this thread is going to do is spark off loads of "we havent got R2D in my country yet but we have R1G is this... blah blah blah"....

:-?

i want people to say: "hey, guess what? i'm in blablabla country and its available and i've updated mine. update yours too... at blablabla..."

This way u know... coz u'll never know... when its gonna be available in your own country... especially if u're from Asia... like me.

I think this thread is actually a pretty good idea. We can help each other out. For example, I posted that in Holland, my local service point only had R1D. Perhaps another Dutch fellow will respond and say "well they have R2D at blablabla in Holland". That way we can help each other, and I think that's the main purpose of this forum

:P Yes, indeed!!! thats what i'm trying to do here... your ERICSSON SERVICE CENTRE not gonna call you up when the new firmware arrive...
It's our job here to inform each other on the avaibility...

So to all my fellow Malaysians... go and upgrade yours now... it's here..

PLACE: ERICSERVE SERVICE CENTRE, Amcorp Mall.

Here in Hong Kong I just sent my P800 to be upgraded to:

ORGANISER: R2A
CDA: R3A

Wonderful!!! Getting it back tomorrow and I cant wait!!!

Room 1009, 10/F, Leighton Centre, 77 Leighton Road, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong.

and the other one,

Room 1802, 18/F, Park-In Commercial Centre, 56 Dundas Street, Kowloon.

There you go nosferatu...

To Ghazalie,

To Tommen,
Hopefully the new firmware will arrive soon at your place and keep us updated!!

To Anthonyjcrocks,
Thanks for the info...

I'm told by S-E that my local service centre (Mobile Phone Repair Company, Newcastle, Staffordshire) has the upgrade, and MPRC also tell me they can do it. I'll find out if it all comes together when I go down there (they do a walk-in while-you-wait service).

I've seen a bunch of stuff in other threads about restoring your data following the upgrade. I've done a whole lot of experimenting, and to cut a long story short I now believe the only way to get everything back how you had it before is to do it the S-E way, i.e. use the PC Backup program before the upgrade, and restore the whole thing afterwards. I had thought it might be possible to selectively restore things like the Contacts database, your Messages (SMS, MMS, email), Jotter, Agenda, etc etc, but after a lot of experimenting this seems not to work, primarily because most of these files are held open by the OS while the phone is operational, so you can't use File Manager to copy them to the memory stick and then put them back after the flash upgrade (the Backup utility appears to get round this by putting the phone in a special boot mode while backing up - a bit like init S in Unix). You could sync everything i.e. Contacts, Messages, etc etc, with Outlook and then sync back, but I really can't be bothered setting this up. The main reason people don't want to restore an old backup over a flashed phone - and quite rightly - is they think that restoring the whole of the internal RAM might bring back old system code (and some posts in other threads seem to bear out that some component version numbers revert after restoring a backup over an upgraded phone). But since the flash ROM is not affected by a restore, I'm going to gamble that restoring my files doesn't materially trash the new system code.

Any thoughts? Hope this is useful.

Tom

Well, for my case, the SE service center people did the restore for me. When I got back my phone, I saw that all are in there plus the new upgrade and stuff. 😉

So the first thing I did when I arrived home was to do a back up.

I think it's a good way to start off with. But what does each newer version do? Does it fix a problem? Does it come with new application?

I am using below:
Phone: R1D
Bluetooth: R2C
Organiser: R1G
CDA: R1B

It does not give me any problems, so why upgrade?

If you don't care of the new features described in the first post of this thread and if you say that so far no problems encountered, then I guess it's not necessary for you, specially now that the SE service centers are fully booked with upgrade orders. Perhaps at a much later time you decide to go for the upgrade, you may still do so anyways, and maybe by that time you might have the upgrade in just 30-60 minutes or so.

@Nosferatu,

i bought P800 from Ericserve a few days back just before R2 firmware is available...

now i have to go there again for firmware upgrade

p.s. : ko lepak kat Gloria Jeans SS2 lagi ke? MSG-128A berape RM? ko bleh dpt yg murah tak? awat susah & lembab nak masuk site hah? trafik & byk grafik kot..

Hi Nosferatu

So you wanna have a cup of coffee and talk about the p800 till we drop, huh? Sounds OK by me. Where's your regular hangout?

😉 I guess u might have not notice that the firmware u are currently using is still kinda buggy actually... especially during backups.. and the bluetooth sometimes not working at all (normally during "utomatic" mode)

:P Every upgrading will definitely fix those goddamn bugs plus this new version even add some cool stuff... even though its not that perfect actually but hey, it surely beats the old version!!!

p/s: i also noticed that this new version doesnt hang yet till today... nice
!!

Just got back from a trip. Ill check what SE has here in Cebu, Philippines, will update you guys tom 😊 Cool thread! 😊

Philippines- Metro Manila

Upgrades available at Smartnet, Makati & SE Showroom in SM West's Cyberzone. Done in 1 and a half hours. I think there are other SE showrooms, just don't know their locations.
