The following is from a ZDNet news article today;higher-resolution digital camera.
Wrong.
can read and edit Word and Excel documents, as well as show PowerPoint presentations.
Wrong again. Only 3'rd party, same as the P800.

Don't you mean DUO PRO? -No, it seems it only supports regular DUO's up to 128MB, but a firmware upgrade may enable it to accept the new PRO's.
but a firmware upgrade may enable it to accept the new PRO's
Really? I would have thought it would have been a hardware issue? Pro support would be great, it's a real shame it's not being included but considering there's gonna be nothing to compete with the P900 til late next year I think i'll live with my dissapointment and get one when my contract runs out in December.

I'm not sure about this, but I've read something about firmware upgrades for Clie's enabling them to support the new PRO format, so if this is true it should also be possible for P800/900 users. But again, I'm not sure, so please correct me if I'm wrong. 😊
How awesome would that be!If such an upgrade is released you can even do it from home 😃
I have my doubts on this one.
does anyone know if this phone has a proper remote control for the multimedia player, so you don't have to take the phone out to turn up the volume, rewind or stop a media player??
I'm not really convinced with P900 features. Very few updates to P800. Think i'm gonna leave that to shop and buy something else.
Hopefully successor of P900 will come up something that is REALLY new. 😊

No Fax,the USB is still Serial and you still have to set SMS delivery report every time you write a message.BTW:The great new thing is firmware updates from home!
Are you sure about the Fax ? according to UIQ site, 2.1 supports Fax ... BTW, can we create folders in SMS app ?

Do you think I'd get a warranty in my country ? pretty cheap, the P800 dev kit was over $1000

Many things coming from Symbian as part of the OS or UIQ do not end up in actual devices & in some aspects the devices may also have things Symbian hasn't yet.

Even though it's in the development section, there is no mention of Codewarrior (or any other) devleopment kits included.
I'd ring SE first, as I had problems with my handset with the warranty (P800).

The P800 modem does not support any fax protocols. The P900, in hardware terms, seems to be 99% a P800 so I very much doubt it supports fax.
Ericsson (and now SE) seemed to take a decision several years ago that high-end phones and their users do not need fax support.
word and excel editing alone is worth the upgrade! now the pockettop keyboard begins to make sense

The press release says:
"(...) With the P900, it is possible to view and edit Word and Excel files, which can easily be saved on a Memory Stick Duo and transferred to a PC. It is also possible to view and present Powerpoint presentations, so it could be obsolete to bring a PC to a presentation. (...)
I wonder why they write "saved on a Memory Stick"? Mailing as an attachment makes more sense for mobile workers.
It's also all possible with the P800. I have Quick Office running and it works just fine. I can also save documents to my memory stick 😊
There is Fax support in UIQ 2.1,there were even rumours that early p900 protos had fax support. The final product does not.
Expansys now have the P900 for pre order at 548.33 (466.67 exc. VAT). From memory, that's about 20 more than the P800 was originally on there. Mind you, it was also about six or seven months between them being available for pre-order and getting them in.
Oh, and apparantly it's "Urban Grey".

Of course you need a Core Membership to be able to purchase the P900 at that price. The Core Membership costs $500, so the real price will then be $1150. Not so cheap no more, huh 😊

The P900 and P800 could use the new PRO Duos if SE released a firmware upgrade for the phones
Quote taken from memorytick.com website
Some products in some categories will be able to accept Memory Stick PRO media by upgrading firmware or software. (Available advantage is high capacity only.)
Click HERE and scroll to the bottom of the page see for yourselves
Time to move this thread to the P900 forum 😃

if that's true ... then we'll have NO LIMIT for thephone's memory! but don't u think it'll get really slow, specially when u have your memory card full 😞
Here is a nice comparison-table between the P800 and P900
http://www.clubsonyericsson.com/en/products_p900.htm#table
It also states:
"Mobileburn.com already has a P900 and says it's 1250mAh although still called BST-13." That would be nice!
Also check out the list of software on the extra cd (on the bottom of the table)! I hope those are all full versions!(although I have my doubts about that...)

I don't know if a full Duo card would slow down the phone.
I wouldnt think that it would make a difference, as the phones memory is still free, I could be wrong
Any one here who owns a P800 and 128MB Duo card notice any difference between how fast the phone operates when the Duo card is empty or full?

the comparison sounds really cheesy being heavily biased on making the p900 sound really superior even if it's a minor change

But I think it's still nice (and easy) to see all the differences in one quick overview...
And I was especially interested in those two facts (the 1250mAh battery and the big load of software that comes with the phone!)

I actaully did notice some speed differences, after filling up the 128mb memory card with all my stuff (softwares, MP3s, movies) and now I have 5 mbs free, I noticed that it needs more time to read from the card, especially when I browse ALL applications.
916 : u can try that urself if u have 128, just do a full backup (internal & external memory) then format ur card and check the speed with some application u have on ur C drive, then restore ur stuff back, and fill the card with everything u have, and check speed with same applicatoins. u'll notice a big difference🙄
Whats all this about a second processor?
Anyone worked And Mophun seems good!
Also, not quite on topic, imagine the camcorders out soon, if they record onto a Duo Pro, thats beyond DVD quality and sooooo tiny! Cant wait! Like Panasonics new one....

Is the speed difference Huge or does it just take a couple of seconds longer to access?

I've had a 128MB DUO for a long time now, and I for one cannot notice any difference in speed whether I have 500KB or 50000KB free on the card. 😊

it's not just couple of seconds delay to access an application , sometimes I have to wait sometime to get the applications list, which is something I havn't noticed when I was using the original 16mb or even with an empty 128mb ...
but I want to add another point, I've noticed that if u fill the phon'e memory with few aaplications and a large quantity of MP3z or MP4z then u won't notice the speed difference, only if u install dozens of softwares u'll notice it clearly.🙄
