i think this could mean that the service will also be expanded to cover the p900, but the p900 not actually released in november, because it currently supports the 3650, and it's different to the p900 and so they might have to do any changes to there service and enhance it so it will support the p900 for when it is released? i'm just guessing here

The z200 was released in septembre,or maybe it was announced then. When the p900 will be official,it will say p900 on SE's website.

Press Release

Sony Ericsson unveils the P900 a flagship multimedia smartphone

October 20, 2003

At simultaneous events in Las Vegas and Beijing today, Sony Ericsson unveiled the much anticipated P900 smartphone, to be available starting next month. Building on the successful P800, the P900 is smaller, faster, simpler and more flexible than ever before. With significant upgrades such as video recording capability, 65K colour touch screen, and increased memory, the P900 is not only a high-quality camera phone, but also provides full PDA/organizer functions as well as a good gaming experience.

Persistent rumours of a follow-up to the successful P800 have preceded the launch, proving the strong interest for Sony Ericssons Symbian-based smartphone offering among application and content developers, corporations and consumers alike. The wide range of applications available for download turn the P900 into a device that can do much more than making voice calls, thereby increasing its value for both consumers and operators. The P900 is based on Symbian OS v7.0 and the established UIQ user interface. Symbian is the largest-selling operating system for smartphones.
The inclusion of a video recorder is a significant addition to the multimedia facilities of the P900. It is a VGA still camera and can also record video clips as long as the memory allows. It uses the QCIF picture size with MPEG4 video compression which is the standard supported by 3GPP. A video clip is approximately 1 MB per minute and can be inserted into MMS messages; also video which has been streamed to the P900 from elsewhere can be inserted into an MMS message. The P900 is a QuickShare product, incorporating the ease of use principle that Sony Ericsson first introduced in the T610. QuickShare has won consumer praise for being the smartest way for mobile imaging on the market. Not only can a picture be taken with only two clicks, it is also easy and intuitive to share pictures between the phone, a PC and other consumer devices - either locally over Bluetooth, Infrared or cable, or across the mobile phone networks with MMS or e-mail.

The P900 will start shipping to EMEA and APAC markets in Q4, for US in Q1, and the P908 will start shipping in China in Q1.

Viewing images and video on the P900 is a pleasure; the P900 screen has improved colour depth, i.e. 65,536 colours compared to 4,096 colours in the P800, and images can be viewed across the full size of the screen and in wide screen mode. This of course makes the P900 a highly apt device when relaxing. There is a wide range of downloadable Java and Mophun games for the phone, and included on the CD is the very popular racing game V-Rally1, in a 3D edition which is taking mobile gaming to a new level not seen before. The JogDial is used for accelerating and together with the polyphonic sound, stereo headphones and 3D landscape details; the game play is getting closer to a console-type gaming experience.

The flash memory has been increased from 32 MB to 48 MB ram and this has increased the available user memory up to 16 MB. Additional storage space is available by using Memory Stick Duo. A 32 MB Memory Stick Duo is included with the P900 and Memory Sticks up to 128 MB capacity are supported, which makes it easy to create a music or video library, on several Memory Sticks. Private home videos can be scaled down using Packet Video recorder on PC so that you can show friends and relatives snapshots from your holiday break. The P900 features a complete MP3 music player and also comes with a selection of innovative MP3 ring signals.

The P900 browser supports HTML, WAP and cHTML content types within one single browser. The much praised Opera browser, which is designed to display practically all Web pages on the Internet, comes on a CD with the P900, or is available for download on www.sonyericsson.com. When viewing Internet content through this browser, pages are reformatted to fit inside the screen width and eliminate the need for horizontal scrolling, providing a fast and pleasant mobile browsing experience.

Starting today, there are also on-line phone update services available from sonyericsson.com. They allow consumers to download the latest version of the phone software directly to the phone without having to visit a service centre. The CD-ROM enclosed with the P900 provides a generous selection of software and applications for productivity, connectivity and entertainment.

as mentioned on My Symmbuan P900 Review
P900 seems to be still supporting Memory Stick Duo cards only - at least we were not able to find any indications of Duo Pro cards support. If this appears to be true, the size limit will be still 128 MB only.

Still no word about MS Duo Pro support though

guess 128 will b the limit 😞

I am really quite surprised - SE has obviously looked at many of the complaints from the P800 and improved on most of them for the P900 - how could the Memory Stick Duo have gone unchecked? The media already exists, and for any user wanted to store some programs, MP3s and videos.... the 128MB limit is just way too small.

I wouild like to see how easy is it for SE to incoporate the Pro support... it only makes sense.

Regards,

Lonnie

Geez, you guys are never happy are you?

You could at least be enthusiastic until you've got a P900, then you can complain about the lack of memory later -- after all, remember how excited people were even 3 months ago about getting 128MB cards.
😛

we all know that 128 is not enough now, yes I know I can use several 128s but still not the same as handeling all softwares, MP3, movies and games in 1 memory card!

yes we are enthusiastic of getting a P900, but we need to find everything we need in the phone we'll buy 😮 and more memory is a need for sure😊

We gonna get a whole new "Sony Ericsson P900" forum now that we know it isn't vapourware? 😃

Oh!!....I don't know about that, I'll have to think it over for a few weeks.

Maybe, just maybe....if your lucky you might get one 😉

No duo pro support then? That's a bit crap, I wonder why? I can hear the tech support line now... "i brought a 512MB duo card but I can only see 128MB".

I'm a bit disapointed with this a main reason to upgrade to the P900 would be top get a 512MB card so You could store whole movies on your phone for those boring train rides. Sony always just seem to miss the target by doing something like this. 😞

No Fax,the USB is still Serial and you still have to set SMS delivery report every time you write a message.BTW:The great new thing is firmware updates from home!

I've just layed my hand on one of the P900, it was really awsume😃
it was in the GITEX 2003 Computer Show in Dubai, and I'm telling you guys, I changed my mind, I deffenatly will get one of these!
the wieght is less only 7 grms than the P800, but when you carry it, u feel it's at least half wieght of P800!
it will b available after 20 days max, and it's price is $700 (depending on where you are

I asked some of Sony Ericsson guys there, and they assured that it will not, I repeat, NOT support the memory stick duo PRO 😡, therefore the limit still 128mb 😞

otherwise all it's features r like SE was reading this forum and correcting their mistakes in P800

Wirelessly posted (SonyEricssonP800/R101 Profile/MIDP-1.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.0)

Just called in to an orange shop, said 2nd November, Sunday. Think ill be off to get it Mon

The following is from a ZDNet news article today;

Sony Ericsson has unveiled its latest smartphone, complete with VPN client and graphics said to rival those of the PlayStation games console

Sony Ericsson's latest smartphone, the P900, will be available in early November, the company said on Tuesday. The P900 tri-band smartphone, which runs the Symbian operating system, is an updated version of the P800 with a VPN client, improved graphics and higher-resolution digital camera.

Although the P900 has the same size screen as the P800, it is slightly slimmer and lighter than its predecessor, and can read and edit Word and Excel documents, as well as show PowerPoint presentations.

Richard Dorman, marketing manager for UK and Ireland at Sony Ericsson said he expected the VPN client to make the phone popular among mobile workers: "It's enterprise-ready. The P800 didn't offer access to corporate VPNs -- that is something we are now enabling." But the P900 is not all about work, Dorman added; its ARM 9 processor together with a high resolution colour screen (208 by 320 pixels, with 65,000 colours) enables graphics that he likened to those produced by PlayStation consoles. The phone comes with a version of the VRally2 driving game.

The P900 has a pen-based user interface and contains 16MB of internal memory. It also comes with a 32MB memory stick, but can support up to 128MB.

Dorman said he expects the phone to cost around 500 without a contract.

Somewhat inaccurate in places (higher res camera?) but does give an estimated price and confirms the 128MB limit.

does anyone know why there's no Duo support? speculation welcome.

If you mean why is there no Duo PRO support (there is Duo support), to save costs! The P900 looks like it is going to use exactly the same inards (chasis) as the P800. There would be cost involved in changing the Duo drive, given that it's so closely integrated to the phone's chasis.

Besides, the delays to the P800 release (8 months or so in the UK) have been partly attributed (by rumour!) to the MS-DUO. SE would be lynched if the same thing happened with the P900!

There, is that speculative enough for you 😊
