It's a real disappointment that rumours has it the finish is just metallic paint on a plastic body rather than a real magnesium or aluminium body.
What a shame.
But I'm powerless against its seduction. Such a temptress.

if this is the successor to the P800 then I'd like to see its (few) faults corrected - having said that, there's nothing that a new firmware wouldn't also fix, namely
T9 (ok, ppl are saying its in the P810/P900) - how the hell did they leave that out in the first place - I can't type at a fast pace without it)
Profiles (any news on this one ? eg Outdoor, Normal, Quiet, Silent etc)
Volume (I miss calls on the P800 every now and again as the ring tone is simply not loud enough)
regards, Ammo.
nice to see the new flip resting its entire edge on the phone rather than the two knubs of plastic - I've broken one off and have resorted to flip-removed mode until I glue it back on (if possible!)

A few simple reasons. 1/ It's a business phone. T9 is seen as a "Yoof" feature. Handwriting recognition as a more upmarket feature. The P800 is definitely an upmarket, not a yooth phone.
Also, you have to pay a license fee for T9, so if it isn't needed (and, personally, can't see any need for it) then why pay for it.
Though I do think it's strange no-one has produced a commercial third-party T9 for the P800, as the facility is there.

From my understanding (and I think Ghostdog did a full write up of it a few months ago) UIQ2.1 supports profiles.

Nothing to do with the phone. I have a WAV as a ring tone and, to be honest, it's embarassing when it goes off in public 'cause it's so loud. Even in a noisy pub on a Friday night you just can't miss it. There are all sorts of threads on here detailing how to acheive this, but if you use a quiet WAV, it'll sound quiet, use a loud one, it'll burst your ear-drums.

I've seen plenty of yuuurths using a P800, I'm not a big fan of T9 either and don't see anyneed in it....infact i'd go as far to say it annoys me.
But it's always nice to have the option if you need it...so long as you can turn it off 😉
I feel the same about the WAV rintones too!!!....can get some funny looks when it rings.
To encode a WAV ringtone use an MP3 then using a program like MP3 cutter (from www.download.com) cut the section you want then when you export it convert it to WAV at the same time.
Using Sound Recorder (Assuming you use Windows) open the file you just created then go to properties and click convert.
Change the bitrate to PCM 22,050Khz/8-bit/mono then save...if needs be increase the volume by 25% and you've got the mother of all ringtones! 😃
Thanks for the replies on the ring-tone volume, would've been nice if SE included some more default 'loud' WAVs, all the in-built loud ones sound crazy, never mind, at least there is the freedom of installing more WAVs, which is what I will do.
Okay so thats one thing off my wish-list
T9 - sorry guys I don't see T9 as just a youth thing, I appreciate it that a lot of people have trouble figuring out how to use it (I know it took me absolutely ages to get my head around it) but once I get someone up and running on it, they never look back, SE should have given users the choice to switch it on/off, I doubt the licensing cost would have dramatically increased the price of the device, if the new device has it then cool, I hope some sort of upgrade is made available (even if it costs)
Profiles - I hope a UIQ2.1 upgrade appears for the P800 (again - I wouldn't mind paying for it at all)
I've seen some comments on this forum to the effect that no new stuff for the P800 will be released, so all-in-all (for me at least) the new device is
the answer. Which is cool with me, my P800 has given me excellent service (I use all the functions especially the email part) and there is nothing to touch it in the marker still to this day

Have you seen any of the DoCoMo phones?....eeek!....makes the P800 ancient
Hi,
I don't know anything about the Japanese market, when it comes to gadgets I guess they will always be in front 😃
got any links to illustrate some phones on the DoCoMo network ?
regards,
Ammo.
Have you seen this movie for the new P810 / P900 😃

Bah, not at all interesting..
It's not a smatphone (i.e. no open OS), too small screen and not touch sensitive. Just a fancy cell phone..
Bah, not at all interesting..

I realise it's not a smart phone, I'm talking about features....the camera, the fingerprint/barcode reader....these are all features on high end Pocket PC's at the moment but on regular cell phones in Japan.
There is a Symbian phone in the range (Fujitsu) but not on the I-Mode range. It's Symbian 6.1 the UI is very strange, in fact Dazler and myself had no idea what to do with it, we managed to get a video to play once and the image quality and whole feel to the phone was superior to anything else I used that day.
/me is a big fan
Well, for me all those fancy features aren't as important as having 'real' PDA functions and an open OS. Like I mentioned in my little rant in YS, I would never consider any phone without a 'real' open OS anymore. Unfortunately that may become a thing of the past, seing as how the 'big evil' networks don't want users to have that much freedom, implementing their rediculous application certification and "walled garden" data access etc... Ugh..
Yes I agree....once you've tasted something so divese and powerful compared to a "regular" phone it's near impossible to make the change back.
Yes, the network locking is getting out of hand, the likes of 3G/SE/Vodafone/moto would have you thinking that they are "protecting" you from anything and everything be it a virus/system crash...the list goes on.
But at the end of the day we all know it's so that they can make money, and I guess that is why Symbian has been such a succesful platform for both maker and networks.
Example: If NEC can say to 3(Three) here's a phone, it does all the standard things a phone can do plus it takes pictures/video, well 3 can then make further money from aftersales with use of MMS/Video Calling.
If Moto can say to 3, here's a phone, it has Wav/MP3/Video/Picture/A HUGE potential for 3rd party applications/memory epansion so everything can be shoved on there/more powerful than nearest "non-smartphone" rival & we can lock it so all the content comes soley from you.....think how much money they can make from that! Which one would you as a network go for?
I think this network locking is only more likely to become the norm in the future, which on the whole could be a very bad thing for both the small software companies and for the end user.....well that's my very quickly scribbled down 2.2cents

Um, have you set the "Increasing Ring" setting on the phone? I find that this makes quite a loud ring, whether you're using a wav or polyphonic tones.
The lcoking thing is why i go for SE as my main phones, they always are open to stuff. The T68 would allow you to put your own pic on, and send over bluetooth and IR with no probs, same with the T610. I can send a pic i have taked to my friends without its costing 40p. Same with ringtones, themes etc. Nokia seem to be made for networks, having to pay for pictures and ringtones. (and recently build quality leaves something to be desired). The P800 is just as open as the other SE phones i have had, just does a hell of a lot more with it! 😃 😃

If you buy a sim free phone then it's not an issue...Nokia or SE, but if Vodafone asked SE to make the P800 without IR and BT, SE would disable it IMO, it's networks piling on the pressure for more profit.
I see what you mean, its very annoying. We'll have to se how it goes when SE are releasing phones through the 3g networks. Everything seems to be moving against small developers, grrrr.
I doubt you guys missed it, but i didn't saw it posted here yet.
Did you see this?!?

Pretty stupid of SE, although I don't mind the mistake 😃 But I would say it's time for SE to make it official now
Yeah I wish they would hurry up and announce the phone and it's release date. I want to upgrade to a new phone and have my heart set on the P900

I don't think there will be a long wait this time. Many people have the p810/p900 (under NDA of course),Michal from my-symbian has one(I wonder if Rafe has one but he is keeping it a secret 😉 ) and it seems to be working like the genuine article.
I think/hope before the end of this year,or maybe january or february then next year, max.

lol.
Not really but hopefully GostDog is right and the P900 will be released soon. 😃
Only other option is to buy the P800, but considering it's only dropped a couple of hundred dollars in price from when it was released I'd rather wait for the P900 which has more features
Might be a good idea to wait until they announce it first, which could be a while itself.......were you around when we were waiting for the P800?....seemed like forever!.....And you only get disappointed if you think about it too much.

No I wasn't around back then and I do remember the P800 taking ages to be released but recently I read somewhere (can't remember if it was here or on an other site) that the main reason the P800 was delayed for so long was the fact that the phone originally didn't have a Memory Stick Duo slot and at the last minute SE decided to add the feature. As I've never seen any early P800 prototype photos I don't know if this statement is true or not I just remember that it was used by someone as an argument as to why the P900 wont be delayed
And you only get disappointed if you think about it too much.
Yeah I know but it's hard not to think about it when there are so many photos and so much information floating around 😃
New Screen shots

Thatll be good for all those people wanting a clock screensaver! 😃
