There were rumours that the p900/p810 had a 1/3 MegaPixex camera but from the images you can clearly see that it has a 640x480 VGA camera.
if the flip was detachable, then it would look so much nicer, but that it covers half the screen like the cmd z5 or something like that, it looks weird
Who says it isn't detachable? 😉
as it works electronically, i would have thought it wasn't detachable, if you detached an electric operated flip, it would leave open connectors
IMO it's ugly and not much of an improvment...you guys will get really excited and annoyed when it doesn't materialise for another 1 1/2 years by which time it will be old obsolete technology 😃
Hmm. If this thing is in fact not vapourware, and from what we've heard about the specs so far - this looks more like an alternative to the P800, NOT a successor. So I think it's more likely to be named P810 rather than P900. And I think it's also most likely to appear in shops Q1 next year, maybe the first shipments will reach Scandinavia as early as in December, like in the case of the P800.

I think this is a wise decison of S/O/N/Y. Lets just look at most of the complaints regarding the P800: - Poorly designed filp, no T9, toy/plastic-looking over-all design, wierd/ugly stylus, no themes, no video recording, bad flip closed support, "only" 12 bit display, not good for gaming, needs two hands for operating etc... - All of which are rectified with the P810/P900/Whatever.

And the P800 has done/is doing really well, so why make drastic changes to a product that works?

The changes aren't really that insignificant either IMO, just look at this picture(don't know if it's real or not though):

The picture shows UIQ working in flip closed mode, which means that it should be possible to run applications and games using the flip buttons in a 208x208 display area. - This is especially good news for all the gamers out there! 😊
It also means that there should no longer be any problems operating all the functions with one hand.

UIQ v2.1 also brings a wide range of new features ( UIQ 2.1 Product Description). To mention a few: - Java MIDP 2.0, themes, FAX support, several GPRS sessions at the same time etc.

Personally I think this new P810/P900 looks ALOT better than the P800, and the things like UIQ 2.1, improved flip, and apps running in FC mode will make me run out and buy one as soon as it hits the shelves! :bday:
My only concern is battery-life. We all know the biggest battery drainer is the screen, and using a 16 bit display will probably affect the battery alot more than the current 12 bit (4096 colours). And in addition to that you have the new flip with illuminated LEDs not connected to the touch screen which is bound to drain more battery.. 😞
Lets hope for at least a 1500/1800 Mah capacity battery! :bday:

I just hope SE announces something real soon!Like a release date for crying out loud!!! 😊 I will probably get a p800 in the next couple of months but this p810/p900 has flushed my careful planning down the toilet 😃

LOl yeah SE should announced this soon i mean even just an estimated release date that confirmed by SE

cos with P900/810 there are lots of things that are customizable, this is what i;m waiting for 😮 😮 😮

but first i need to get good mark for my exam so my dad gonna buy it for me hahahahha

I think there is one important feature for business's, the 16MB of internal warehouses! id buy it just for that :P 😃 8)
Otherwise i like the metal case, and it may have improved bluetooth, similar to the T610, which is a lot better in that respect.

Well it certainly needs a better camera, mine has always taken consistently out of focus pictures and is worse than useless. I wish it had not got a camera as it would make it lighter and allow me to use it as an MP3 player in the Gym, my Gym bans camera phones

want to know frm u guys in Europe USA etc. How is the SE promotions on p800 like ads etc. I have seen none in Manila. Here p800 is as good as p900 ( most people dont know it exist). I m responsible to a gr8 extent for its promotion (Excited Onlookers et al) . One main reason is popularity of NOKIA here
I m interested inknowing frm u all as to how these stuff & SE Releases like p900 received globally. Just for my General Knowledge 😊

I haven't seen any P800 advertising outside of the specialist press. The only decent promotion I've seen was a local independant phone shop where they had a full window display in the main high street.

one big problem i haven't seen remedied is an improved controller for fullscreen gaming..having played and planning to develop some fullscreen games i find the drawing on the screen/jog dial button a pretty paltry way of playing a game. a 5 way switch on the bottom would be really nice but with the flip being essentially on (i imagine it could be removable with a little more effort than the p800) the 5 way switch would become moot. i really like the 16bit screen unless it takes away from video/gaming performance (important) or substantially from battery life. and the stylus looks dreamy..although i don't mind the cheap p800 stylus on the phone and a good stylus at my desk.

btw..no mp3 player in the gym?? can you just start a playlist and keep your phone in your pocket while you workout?

But since the touchscreen also works in FC-mode (in 208x208) you can use the keys of the flip as a game controller...

Who says it does...? *sigh* :-?

Well, the picture couple of posts up certanly does,i believe its a screenshot of an MMS composer app runing in FC closed mode.

No, what you see is a prototype device with a glitch in the switch that tells the device the flip is closed. You can see the top of the virtual keyboard just above the flip, the rest is covered by it. That's not how it's supposed to be...

Right... And you know this because...?

It's obvious that the flip closed mode in the P810/P900 will operate different from the P800 due to the larger display area as well as the flip not being connected to the touch screen. So it's very much possible that the touch screen will work in the FC mode display area as well.

SE might have been able to render some UIQ apps (perhaps especially those needing text input) to fit in the FC display area, like it seems from the picture. Or the whole interface may even be rendered to fit in FC mode now, who knows... - Would be great huh!? :bday:

Right... And you know this because...?

Because I do... 😉 You can take my word for it.

i think he's right..as you can see from the attached image, the numbers at the bottom are partially obscured, which shouldn't normally happen with the flip closed.

Quake on the new SE phone??? Woohoo!!!!!

NOT!!!!

FAKE!!!!!!!

Good try though. 😊

That German website does. It seems highly possible to me too!

Not worth the risk, they take it very seriously after an incident in the ladies changing rooms! Instant ban if you are caught with a camera phone.

Still, have to stick with the Nike PSA Play, the arm band is more comfortable than trying to find a safe location for a phone in a pair of sports shorts! 😉

seriously! i got my phone with dreams of using it as my mp3 player at the gym but i've been pretty worried about having it in my pocket..maybe i could make an arm pouch for it..

is says on that grench site java 1.0, i thought the p800 supported midp java 2.0
is says on that grench site java 1.0, i thought the p800 supported midp java 2.0
No. MIDP 1.0 in the P800 today.

I've just seen the latest Orange roadmap for the UK, and they list the "Sony Ericsson P900" as Q1 next year - which means the other networks in the UK will probably have it by December.

So, New number + New contract = New phone... again :bday:
Get an upgrade, same number, if your phone bills are big enough you get a discount usually 😃
Depends on who you get at Orange - usually works best if you say you want your PAC number. My bills rarely go over the monthly tariff because I'm on 400, plus I get a discount... 😉

Japaneese styling for Europe
Lighter, thinner and slightly smaller
"Real" (nonremovable) keypad
65.000 colour touchscreen
Symbian 7.0s UIQ "2.1" Operative System
"Real" PocketPc-like stylus, placed in a hole
Maybe 1.3 Mpixel camera / video recorder

It will be officialy presented during August or September 2003 and will reach the stores in or after Christmas at an estimated price of 700-800?

There's nothing new on that site that hasn't already been posted in this thread. And there's still nothing official about the P810/P900. Lets just hope it will in fact be officially announsed on September 3'rd.
