ETI Camcorder version 1.0
Just wondering...what's the .thm file for? Do I need it for conversion to avi? By the way great job on the new conversion utility! This type of dedication from developers makes u really want to invest in further development! Keep up the good work!

I think its some sort of a thumbnail file,it displays a thumbnail of the recorded video in the player. You don't need it for conversion.
The .thm file is the thumbnail given to your video. In the beta software the browser scans the video folder and extracts the thumbnails and save them as .thm files. In the new version this is no longer the case as the thumbnail generation is much faster and happens on the fly. If you do keep a .thm file in the directory it will overwrite the on-the-fly thumbnail generation process. With this feature it is possible to create your own thumbnail pictures (in the Symbian MBM format).
I've tried everything but can't get it to work the way it should. When i convert an ear&eye movie, taken with my purchased copy of the ETI Camcorder Pro, to avi, the movie is upside down and the colours are kind of negative (blue turns out red). This is a problem i never had with my Beta verson of the ETI Camcorder. And the EyeCon converter isn't the problem because when i convert an old movie that i took with the Beta version it still converts fine! What's with this? This is not good! And it looks like the movie quality of the Pro version is even a bit less then the Beta version because it looks like it has a less frame rate and it's more shocking and the a/v sync is still to cry about (the video is 1 second later then the audio! And i have set all setting to the highest quality. Please help me solve these problems!
Hi, 3650addict
Sorry about the trouble... You need a new converter. Get it here - http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=15559
As for the A/V sync I find it VERY strange. Have you restarted your phone? If you use the player immediately after you install the program without rebooting the phone first, sometimes the blinking infrared thing brings the program to a halt. Therefore it is always better to restart the phone after the installation. If after restarting the problem still persists then try to convert it (with the new converter) and see if the AVI is okay...
I have been getting some complaint about the quality  This is due to the fact that this new player stretches the video quite a bit... and when the video source is less than optimal (taken under dim artifical light, for example), the result becomes worse. In a day or two I will send out a patch which allows selection of three viewing sizes in the player - small, medium, and large. This ought to solve the problem... or so I hope.
Thanks for trying to help me! Now i have already tried that version of EyeCon. I tried all versions of EyeCon i could find somewhere!
I used versions from:
here: http://www.eyemail.com.cn/Chi/camcoder/EYECON.zip
here: http://www.eyemail.com.cn/Chi/camcoder/EYECON.zip?providerID=1&protocolID=1
here: http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=15559
And the one that i recieved in my email today.
Non of em work. Now i was starting to think that i'm the only one but someone i know, who also bought the pro version, has exactly the same problem so it's not my stupid thinking or lack of IQ. 😃

3650addict,
You are actually right! I WAS sleeping... 😉 Anyway, I'm surprised that the latest converter didn't work for you. There are a few things to check -
1. Do you see files named NUB2.dll and NUB2.inf? If YES, right-click on the NUB2.inf and choose Install. Afterward, try the conversion again and see if you can play the file. If NO, you haven't got the latest converter. Download it now.
2. Now that you have the latest code and still not working?!! All right, let's try some other tricks -
3. Right-click on the generated AVI and choose "Properties". Select the "Summary" tab. Do you see near the bottom something like "Video compression Nub Codec 1.0?" If not, you haven't installed the CODEC properly... go back to step 1.
4. Still not working? Oh, boy! 😉 Let's verify that the video is indeed generated correctly. Download this FREE tool called FourCC Changer. Once you installed the tool, open the AVI file with it. Depend on what you see in the list boxes - Do you see "NUB1"? If yes, read 5.1; "NUB0"? Read 5.2. None of those? Read 5.3 instead.
5.1 So it says NUB1? And still no video? MAKE SURE you have downloaded the newest EYECON and you do have files named NUB2.DLL in the C:\EYECON directory. Manually copy the NUB2.DLL file into C:\Windows\System32 and try again.
5.2 NUB0? I wonder how the... Only older version of EYECON generate AVIs with that... so PLEASE make sure you have the newest EYECON. Change the letters, using the FOURCC changer tool, to NUB1 (both lists) and exit the tool to update the change. Now try playing again. Or, if you have other CODECs installed, for example, DivX or Xvid, you can also try changing the letters to DIVX or XVID.
5.3 Now we've got a problem... Refer to the next step for a CLEAN, manual installation.
6. I hope we don't have to do this, but... anyway, let's try this, ready?
6.1 Uninstall the NUB codec. Go to Control Panel, and "Add Remove Software". Locate "NUB Codec" and remove it.
6.2 Click the "Start" button and choose "Run...". Type the following command -
regsvr32 -u c:\eyecon\hcnubsrc.ax
6.3 Repeat the above step but this time type -
regsvr32 c:\eyecon\hcnubsrc.ax
6.4 Locate NUB2.INF and right-click on it and choose "Install". Say "Yes" when prompted. Now you should have the program configured... try again and see if it works.
Basically, you want to be sure you have installed the latest EYECON which can be downloaded in the Series60 Multimedia forum. After unpacking it, MAKE SURE you put all the files into your old C:\EYECON\ directory and overwrite all files in there. After conversion, use the FOURCC tool to verify that you have NUB1 in the AVI. If not, you are definitely not using the latest EYECON.
I hope this helps.
I too have the same problem with the video upsidedown weird colours followed your instructions still no joy. Then on impulse tried it with virtualdub read file perfectly. I was able to convert it to DivX and it run perfeclly. I wondered if the problem is Windows Media Player 9 since this seems incapable of reading the original converted Eye file where as virtualdub had no problem. Hope this helps
Just got my registration key. how do i know my registration key works coz i got the trial version that can be use even without the reg. key? 😊
ive just been reading through all the different posts in this topic, and im really considering buying it. not too sure bout image quality at the moment, as the thing i hate about the 3gp vids is that if you enlarge them at all the quality is crap. and seems to be the same with this eti camcorder.
however for viewing on a fone its great, and willy im afraid your wrong as you can convert to avi using your computer. i have the eyecon gui and its great, it converts in seconds and i then put it through virtual dub to compress it. this works brilliantly. i would like to add that it was great with my windows xp laptop, but my windows 2000 machine it would not work on?? crazy!
but it does kick ass
I have just purchased ETI and am waiting for the code....im think this could be the best $11.69 i have ever spent! (i had to pay VAT.....thats out of order!)
hey
any1 managed to convert videos to avi? if so can youtell me, is it possible to increase the size of video playback? buy 100? 200%? or even ful screen and keep the quality?
Thanks
I don't think so.That is the best the camera can do,and its not ETI's or any other recorder fault.Does a picture quality stay the same if you zoom in 200%?
BTW:Some videos i converted with the old convertor were upside down when played with windows media, but when i tried other players like winamp, the playback was fine.
Since this is quickly turning into THE most asked question about ETI Cam, I think I should try to explain it in more detail -
The beta version of ETICam stores the video frames as sequence of bottom-up BGR pictures. That is, the bottom of the picture is stored first and work its way to the top of the picture. And the color components are stored in the order of Blue, Green, and Red. While this is a common format on some platforms, it is not the case on Windows. In the Windows world, you'd usually need Top-down RGB. Each AVI file has a so-called FOURCC, which is a four letter code that indicates which CODEC (stands for compressor/decompressor) should be used to process/decode the video. Common ones are IV50 for Indeo, DIVX for DivX, and XVID for Xvid. With the original EYECON tool, we included our own MPEG-4 CODEC called NuB which has a FOURCC "NUB0". This CODEC, being our own, also understands bottom-up, BGR videos. Therefore, when you play the videos (converted from beta EYE files) they usually show up correctly. However, if you change the AVI's FOURCC to something else, for example, DIVX, the AVI will NOT display properly because DIVX wants a Top-down RGB frame. To ensure compatibility with other more popular CODECs, in the release version we modified our CODEC to do Top-down RGB as well. As a result, newly converted videos will display correctly with other CODECs. To avoid confusion, we changed the FOURCC to "NUB1" which invokes the new CODEC - NUB2 (I know the versioning is kinda screwed up...). Unfortunately, we did not realize that the original NUB1 (Nub.dll) CODEC ALSO supported the "NUB1" FOURCC. Therefore, if you have the old EYECON installed it is likely the older NUB1 CODEC still gets triggered even when you have an AVI with the "NUB1" FOURCC... For now, the way to fix it is to uninstall the original NUB.dll. You can do this via the Control Panel's Add/Remove Program option. In the next few days we will modify the EYECON program to generate AVIs with a new FOURCC... You guessed it, it will be "NUB2"! 😉
One little trick - if you are unsatisfied with the size of the picture, you can use VirtualDub to stretch it. Just open the AVI in VirtualDub and add a "Resize" filter. Make sure you select "Precise Bicubic", and give it a size of 160x120 or 176x144. Save the video into another AVI and now you have a much larger video without losing much clearity because the original video contains quite a bit details to allow effective resizing... unlike those recorded by the other 3GP camcorders.
I hope this helps.
is there anyway to get the left or right selection key to be used for Eti?
Thanks
is there anyway to get the left or right selection key to be used for Eti?

I haven't figured it out 😞 Nokia keeps lots of things undocumented... Have you seen any 3rd party applications that can do this (other than Nokia's own?)
well i think smart launcher can do that - im sure that it gives a bigger list of apps you can use for the buttons.
But i dont like that application....and im not gonna use that just got useing the selection key for eti.
I just thought it would be a good idea to have quick access to eti....u never know when there is something good to record!
We also plan to add the following features in the next release (free to registered users):
- MP4/3GP file support
- Full screen playback
- Playback contrast/brightness
- Night shot
- Digital zoom
I hope this is good enough? 😉
Btw, what's the longest video recording time with ETI Camcorder?
I'd heard of even on a 3650 with plenty of memory space on a 128MB MMC card the max. time was only around 750sec. Any longer than that the program will quit with an error. Am I right about it?
Please help to clarify my doubts. Thanks in advance!
Today is August 3rd in Australia (August 2nd most other places).
I have never used this software before.
I have just installed it on my phone 20 minutes ago and installed the converter on my PC.
I got the converter from a message thread.
I got the main phone program from the official website. This is the demo/trial one.
I followed installation instructions to the letter.
The videos play upside down and wrong colours.
I have followed the explicit de-installation and re-installation instructions.
I have checked all the steps suggested.
The codec is registered, the NuB2.dll is version 1.0.0.1 and is in my G:\windows\system32 directory.
i am using WMPlayer 9. I have also tried playing the video in Divx 2.1.
I suggest that there is something wrong that has nothing to do with me since I did NOT have beta code.
Until I read something that says "Ah, I found the problem and I've fixed it" I'll assume that the bug will remain and I won't bother trying to use this app any further. It's already taken 2 hours of my time on a released application (not beta).
I'd consider this "0.9 Beta" rather than "1.0 Released".
Perhaps the only reason it works for anyone is because they have installed multiple versions including beta versions, and the steps given to make it work, works for them.
The application obviously does not work on a totally, 100% 'virgin' PC.
I have quite a few codecs installed on my Win/XP Sp1 PC:
DivX 5.0 Code Version 5.0.5 Build b830-HPLovecraft Apr 23 2003 18:34:03
iccvid.dll Version 1.10.0.6
Indeo | .263 Video Driver Version 2.55.016
Indeo video 5.10
ir32_32.dll Version 3.24.15.03
ir41_32.ax Version 4.5
iyuv_32.dll Version 2.00.00.00
msh261
msh263
msrle32.dll
msvidc32.dll
msyuv.dll
NuB For Windows Codec Version 1.0.0.1
tsbyuv.dll
XviD MPEG-4 Video Codec
Btw, what's the longest video recording time with ETI Camcorder?
With the new ETICam, I have managed to record more than 45 minutes on my 16MB card. The older version was leaking some memory that probably causes it to crash after prolonged recording. The new version no longer does that.

I'm sorry but why am I suspecting you are using the beta version of the ETI Camcorder? Where did you download the program from? Our web site do not yet have the new version available for download... If you convert beta EYE files with the latest EYECON then you will definitely end up with upside-down pictures.
well i think smart launcher can do that
I checked on the Nokia developer forum, and the answer I got was a definitive "NO". The app launcher only recognizes "official" Nokia apps.
I would just like to say to all those seeing upside down video.
I have the NEW ETI software, and I installed the NEW converter on a virgin PC and it converts perfectly for me.
So those seeing upside down video must be somehow getting the beta version on their machines somehow.
Great app - how about putting the MMS on/off feature onto a shortcut key too??
Best
Will
Hey Will
you use Slauncher dont you?
Do you get a longer lost of apps for the selection keys?
Mark
No, just the normal list.
But you can assign shortcut keys like 'abc'+"1" for instance - but these shortcuts do not work from you standby screen, just the menu screen, so pretty pintless really.
If you could assign shortcuts to the number key, that would be good enough. Like at the moment if you push and hold '0' it will open up your WAP browser.
Can we assign these shortcuts ourselves???
Will
i cant find a way, lets hope nokia allow us to be more flexiable with shortcut keys in the 6600....
I believe the shortcut keys are preprogrammed by Nokia and cannot be changed by 3rd parties (apart from adding mailboxes).

I just downloaded and tried the recorder. It's great and it's fast. 😃
However, I noticed what I see when I was recording is NOT exactly what I got at the end when I replayed the video on my N3650. What's recorded and shown when you replay has the right side cut off by about 10%.
Also, what watermark? I don't see any of those.
Lastly, how can I send the video (or eye & ear) to my friend via email and let them watch it? What do they need to view? 😉
Boon
Woops! Let me look into that... as for the watermark, it is not in the current version. It will be put online in a day or so and serve as a demo/eval copy.
When playing back on the phone, the video does not play all the way to the end. There's 1 or 2 seconds not played. After converting to AVI, I get the entire recording. Maybe's something's not quite right in the player on the phone.
The cut off on the right side affects both the player on the phone and the avi. Look at the avi file I attached here. You're supposed to see the top & botton square at the edge at the first pause, then the left & right at the next pause.
