I did, untill the defrag, but I am told that defragging would have made no difference??
Not sure why I had the same problem, and thinking about it that was after I installed the latest ETI.
But now the problem is gone and I still have the same version of ETI installed.
ETI Camcorder version 1.0
Willy,
A defrag would DEFINITELY help! When the card is fragmented, file seek operations become very slow. One trick of ETI Camcorder is the ability to write files really fast (that's one of the reasons why you get unlimited recording length... the others all try to save to RAM directly); but when the disk is fragmented, it probably causes extended delay in file writing. At the same time the recording is running and spitting out data like crazy... and the next thing you know -- BOOM! Buffer overflow! Similar thing also applies to the player.
A defrag DEFINITELY doesn't help me! 😞 No difference whatsoever! And i already thought so, i mean, defragging can't be the solution! If one version of the ETI Camcorder screws up my phone and an other version works fine without any problems, there must be something interfearing with that one version of ETI but i don't know what. And i don't have SmartLauncher installed! 😉 Nobody else has this problem?!
Nobody?! Well that's strange! Then i just have to hope the next version of the ETI Camcorder Pro workes with me! 😉

Thanx dfdzgz, i tried it out but no difference. ETI still crashes. You know, it looks like a memory problem b/c when i record and hold the camera still, it sometimes doesn't crash immediately but keeps on recording but when i move the camera around, it crashes. And i have 2.7 MB free phone memory and 50 MB free MMC memory so that will not be the problem. It's just really weird i say! But i must say that i'm really ammused with the previous version that does work. I went to a concert of the Rolling Stones yesterday and shot 43 MB of ETI movies without any errors! SWEET!
I went to a concert of the Rolling Stones yesterday and shot 43 MB of ETI movies without any errors! SWEET!
I'm jealous! Nowadays all my ETI movies look like this:
"Ok... testing, teeeeesting...." (some panning motion)
"one... two... three... four... five!" (fingers counting)
"ok... a faster one..."
"one!two!thee!four!five!"
"Damn! Out of sync again!" 😉
Anyway, it absolutely boggles my mind why you are stuck with a previous version... Does it make any difference if you record to phone memory instead?
I have the same problem with ETI Camcorder Pro when recording videos with the Picture Quality set at "High Quality" settings. It shuts down my ETI Pro then I get the error message "App. closed ETI Camcorder Pro" and afterwards I get a second error " App. Closed Media Server." But when I changed the Picture Quality to "Standard Quality" everything seems to work perfectly on my 3650 except for the file name, it starts with a negative sign like this -123456.. I guess ETIcam Pro is still buggy 😞 ...... besides that it is a great program if you could settle with a standard quality movies :P .
I keep reading this defragmentation solution to ETI Camcorder Pro crash problem and it seems like a good idea at first. But then I remembered that my 3650 uses a Symbian Operating System and I have a Windows XP OS installed on my PC and I keep asking myself does Symbian OS and Windows XP have the same File System in allocating files and folders? Would very much like to see any comments or suggestions about it. Thanks! 😊
unlucky dfdzgz, i see the latest version has already been cracked! :-?
I think they both support the FAT file system.

Cracking software is usually pretty simple. That's why I was always against the idea of protecting it via keys -- in the face of a dedicated hacker it is not possible to stay crack-proof, whereas people who pay for software usually pay for it anyway. Unfortnately this is out of my hands and software retailers demand such "features" to be built into the system...
hey dfdzgz,
how many people have purchased Eti? I was a good boy and paid for mine 😊

262 purchase to date and 2157 download from Handango (BTW, they do such a horrible job at prompting applications I always have trouble finding the link to ETI Camcorder myself). I recorded more than 5000 beta requests previously, and I believe the actual number of people using it at least doubles that... it ain't easy...

Recording to phone memory makes no difference at all, still crashes. I tested recording at standard and low quality and that works so indeed, like someone else said, it's a problem with recording at high quality. Mmmmmh?!

Sounds like trouble... I'm looking into this now.
I am registered for eti camcorder.I download it from handango.
""It records but after recording, when i play the video i can hear sound for only 3-4 seconds??"" The bar at the bottom of player is going to end quickly and sound is stopping..But the video contiunes after stopping of sound. Also the size of the *.ear files of videos are only 1-2 kb.It doesn't record whole sound??? I tried all settings but result is same!!!
WHy? WHY? WHY? Is my software wrong? what must i do?

Hi Guven,
Have you tried recording to phone memory instead of MMC? If it works with phone memory but not the card then the card may be fragmented. Also, the software works for a period of time without registration code. But eventually it will ask you for it.
Hi dfdzgz,
I tried recording to phone memory and yes there, the sound is normal. But what must i do? How to defrag? Because my mmc card is new and at the first time of using mmc card,i formatted it and after this i installed only opera+extended file manager+nokia recorder update and then ...i installed Eti camcorder. How to defrag card? Formatting it? because i don't want to lost my data on the card? Please Help me. (Where must i dowload the right and last updated file) Thanks ...??
Hi guven,
Frankly I have never done this myself. According to Willy he was able to defrag the card via his PC card reader. Windows should recognize the card as a removable drive and you can defrag it the usual way.
Hi dfdzgz again,
I have't got card reader..so,does it mean that i can't use eti camcorder normally? Is this a fault? What will i do now? Won't this change in the next update of software? And why is my card fragmanted? Is Formatting again an alternative way? Can you say good news??? also where can i download the newest file of program?
Defragging can't be the solution b/c your MMC is a 'solid state drive' so there are no moving components like your computers harddisk has. So defragging has almost no effect on your MMC's functionality!

I beg to differ. Fragmentation, IMHO, refers to the logical state of the underlying file system, not the physical condition of the disk. In order to record/play files quickly, the camcorder performs many read/write/seek operations on the file frequently. When the file system becomes fragmented, such operations become slow and might even fail. Depend on the file system this may or may not be an issue, but given that most MMCs are formated with the FAT file system, which is a rather simplistic file system design, I suspect it is more vulnerable.

I would think re-formating should do the trick. Just make sure you back up your data, though.
dfdzgz,
You says that re-formatting may help me about problem but this is not a certain thing?? So will this problem able to be solved in the next updated version? Can you say this? If the format does not solve the problem?Because after the format won't i install the others again, and it will be fragmented again?I said all about this matter but i am very bored with this.

I've seen similar discussions on various forums for both pocket PC's and digital cameras. One thing that always comes up is a warning that defragging memory cards CAN BE DESTRUCTIVE IN THE LONG TERM.
Solid state memory (CF, MMC, SD, MS, etc) has a life determined by the number of reads/writes done. Defrag'ing the solid state memory involves a HUGE number of reads and writes, thereby shortening the life of the memory.
Often, it is better to simply back up the entire card to your PC, reformat the memory card, and then restore the backup. Because most backup programs will write full files instead of clusters, this results in everything getting defragmented.
However, all of this isn't really needed for most forms of solid state memory, as there is no drive head seeking around for clusters - thereby no slowdown from fragmentation.

First of all, I'm not making any claims on this because I have never experienced this problem on any of my test devices. ETI Camcorder has been tested by over ten thousand people and I have only seen no more three reports on similar anomlies. I will do my best to make this program bug-free but until I can really isolate the problem there is very little that I can do.
I know eti camcorder beta had been used for a huge number of people.
My 3650's version is 2.50 (13-02-2003) and My multimediacard is SANDISK 128mb.
I tried to install on the nokia's original card(16mb) and it worked,I could record normally with sound
But i think My new SANDISK 128mb CARD's speed isn't slower than nokia's original 16mb card in the pack?
Had you tested with SANDISK 128mb mmc? And Can you say the cards that was tested?
