ETI Camcorder version 1.0

130 replies · 31,311 views · Started 29 July 2003

It appears that many users on this forum would like the ability to play back videos as 'full screen'
Being as you seem to be able to do 'anything' with video, how about it?
😊 😊 😊 😊

Also, how about an mp4 to .eye/.ear converter so we can put our PC videos onto the phone 😊

We can do away with that damn rubbish realone player then 😃 😃 😃

Will

man!

just the amount of posts in regards to this eti cam just prooves hoe damn good this thing is!

good job guys!

would it be possible for Eti to record video at 640x480 with the option to decrease them for phone usage? That way we could have quality vids for PC playback.... (i know files would be huge)

or is that not possible due to hardware restrictions?

I would also like to be able to convert my MP4 video files to the ear/eye format is ther any chance that you could release codec to do this and we could use maybe virtualdub to do the encoding.

dfdzgz

Thanks for the answer.
I'd download the trial version and found it crashes after a few seconds running. Oh my god, worst than the stories i've heard. So I've went on to try & see if it was other programs that killing the ETI.
What I did was, uninstalling all the installed programs from my phone and one by one still without luck. So next move was, reset phone with *#7370#, and then installed just only the ETI Camcorder and it appear to be ok. And then I've start to install others program one by one again, and the ETI Camcorder crashes again once SmartLauncher got installed onto the phone. And it wouldn't work properly even if you have all program removed and re-install just the ETI. So another phone reset needed. Is it very bad as the need to perform a phone reset you know...

Hmm...so there's still some bugs in the 1.0 actual version?

I like your great ETI Camcorder program, but now am hesistating in buying into.
As I'm a great fan to use the SmartLauncher program as it gave me much beautiful Menu display and believed there's lots of ppl like it too as my previous post with my phone Menu background posted been downloaded by lots of ppl.

Appreciate if you could help to rectify the problem that I've mentioned ASAP, so that everybody will gain the confidence in buying your otherwise very great program.
Thank you very much in advance! 😮 :x  😃 8)

I don't have anything that can convert MP4 files, but on the PC I can do AVI to EYE/EAR. Right now the process is quite a hack as it involves some resizing and frame rate reduction via Virtual Dub, then maually building a DirectShow graph (using the GraphEdit) to feed the video through my EYE file writer filter (if anyone feels brave to try this, let me know...). It is not too difficult to automate the process... but I am so lazy... 😉 Anyway, now that I have seen some demand for it, I will turn this into a program in the next few days...

As for 640x480 capture... that is not possible with this phone. You'd be running into several bottlenecks here. The first one is that at 640x480 size the phone cannot take shots repeatedly. The only way to get a video-like sequence is to use the phone's viewfinder images. These images are 160x120 sized and only have 12-bit color (45K). This is why the videos can look bad even when taken in high-quality mode. At work I have seen a couple of yet-to-be-released smartphones that have MUCH better cameras. You wouldn't believe how good those videos look! Now the second bottleneck is processing speed. Bear in mind that the Nokia phones are running at mere 52Mhz... whereas realtime video compression at 640x480 resolution is considered a challanged for even 2Ghz Pentium 4s. One of the smartphones we are working on features a 200Mhz XScale processor, and we were able to capture 320x240 @ 12fps.

Hi NewForce,

Thanks for going through all that trouble and giving me a detailed trouble shooting report. I have no idea why it would be conflicting with SmartLauncher... Has anyone else experienced this problem?!!! Also, can you use the "My Videos" browser and the player?

I will get SmartLauncher and try that myself.

Thanks again.

dfdzgz, just a small correction, the 9210 runs on 52 Mhz processor, the 7650 and 3650 run on a 104 Mhz processor(i think) but that is not the issue here, because IMHO it does not make much difference when it comes to real time video compression.

dfdzgz,

the new converter works fines with the new eti camcorder, however I noticed that when i set the audio codec to speech, the converter refused to convert the files into avi "corrupt file" is the error that i received. Any suggestions to resolve this?

Also, where are the patches you promised for resolving the wysiwyg problems and for being able to see the videos captured with old version??

Hi aazain,
The speech audio uses the AMR codec which is typically not available on your PC. There used to be a free AMR codec offered by VoiceAge but I don't think they offer it anymore (I may be wrong).
As for the many things I promised... 😮ops:

dfdzgz,

ok no problem, so I guess I will just not use the speech mode if I want to convert the videos into avi. But tell me what benefit does the speech mode offer??

also, I'm really waiting for the patches to be released, can you provide a realistic time frame for that.

Thanks.

I've experianced camcorder crashing too, I also use smartlauncher.
It only seems to crash when recording in HI Quality so I guess it's a memory problem?

Also I have experianced the phone rebooting on many occasions whilst in the player, if you click back to the 'phone' or 'memory card' screen and go into the memory card once there are videos present in the folder the phone will reboot and there is no way of getting back into the video folder as every attempt will cause the phone to reboot.
The way round it is to delete or move the videos with a file viewer.
Then you can enter the folder using the player - then whatever you do don't push the back button, leave the player always browsing in that folder and you should be ok. When you record new videos you now be able to see them and play them back. Any body else experienced this - could be sLauncher again...

Will

Hi Willy,

That's totally... strange! 😮 Is there a way to temporarily disable SmartLauncher and try it?

aazain,
The speech mode uses AMR codec. Its compression ratio is many times higher than ADPCM (the general codec). For example, one second of ADPCM takes 4KB, whereas AMR only takes 500Bytes! Therefore, if you are trying to record long conversations then this is the mode to use. However, as AMR uses lots of CPU resources, it usually drags down the video frame rate to around 4fps. No good if you want smoother motion. My suggestion is to NEVER use high-quality video mode with AMR. If you use low-quality video you will get much better overall pciture. Also, AMR is specifically designed for speech content. You are better served with ADPCM most of the time.

Hi.

After some more experimenting I have some more info, it appears that the player will reboot IF it is a fresh install of the software AND there are already videos in the E:/videos folder?
When you try to enter the folder it reboots.
If the folder is empty and you enter it it is fine - from that point on any new recorded videos that are added are fine.
If you upgrade or re-install the software thou - as I had done. then you can not get into the videos folder without first deleting your old videos.

Hope that makes some kind of sense to you and you find it helpful.

Best

Will.

Also as for the recorder crashing when in HI Quality - I just been rebooting the phone and trying again - it's normally fine then.

dfdzgz,

thanks for the insight. However, you answered only one part of my question, what about the other part??

hey dfdzgz,
i'm just wondering if there's any problems or if anyone has had problems with the new eti cam. because when i had the beta installed with my 128 MMC it only recorded 3 secs of sound and then it cut out. also i think i read somewhere that someone with a 128MMC cound record videos (with the new eti cam) but when they tried to play the videos it only played 1-2secs of the video.

thanks in advance

Also, can you use the "My Videos" browser and the player?
I will get SmartLauncher and try that myself.
It appear that my whole problem claimed to be a mistake one.

As yesterday night I'd went back and tried all the possibility to rectify my ETI problem.
Removed and re-installed all installed applications 1by1, phone reset and the ETI programs still end up with errors.

And the final BIGGG.. step I've done was, FORMATTING my 128MB MMC card.
That move was a pain one as the 128MB card are having more than 100MB of mp3, real media mv (music video), lots of appplication installation *.sis and lots of wave and midi files. But what can I do... since I'm the only one who's facing this weird ETI problem.
And guess what happen?
Bingo!!! After card formatting, the great ETI Camcorder work amazingly fine with SmartLauncher installed.

Damn it! What's the actual happening has still puzzling me.
Could it be the problem that after upgrade my 3650 from v2.50 to v3.13 firmware and memory card need to be re-format?
Or because I've done to much files downloading to phone on and off?
Think god will know. For now I'm all happy again.

So now I'm gonna try it for another few days and definitely will purchase the official 1.0 full version.

Thank you very much "dfdzgz" for your great ETI Camcorder program.
You'll see my cash flow-in your company real soon. Bye!

Hi NewForce,

Thanks for performing such an astonishing feat! My guess is same as yours. You see, one feature of ETI is the ability to write files really fast so it does not bog down the recording too much. This probably in turn makes it more sensitive to this type of glitches.

Cash flow to my bank account?!!! MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU, MY FRIEND!!! 😉

Has anyone experienced problem with 128MB MMC? I do not have one so I can't really tell... I thought that had been fixed already...

Hmm - could this be a fragmentation problem - is there a utility to defragment the MMC, as you would with an HDD before writing video to it?

could you put it in a PC Card reader and perform a defrag on it?

will

FU'K!!!

Just put my MMC into a card reader and took a look at it.
It was fragmented to fu'k.

Ran a defrag on it and it may be my imagination but I swear it is running faster when I open images and files!!!

I too had a video that was 18 seconds long but would only play the first 4 seconds - now it is playing FINE!!

I recorded 2 more videos too - whilst sLauncher was running and it recorded fine too!

😃 😃 😃 😃 😃 😃 😃 😃 😃

This could be the answer!

Will

*edit* Is there a symbian application that can defrag, for all those without PC Card readers??

How about this for an idea..

How about the facility to record by appending to an existing video?
Just like a 'real' video camera does.
Then, when I return from my vacation, instead of 20 little 'clips' I would have a single video of my vacation which I can e-mail to friends etc..

Sure I could send to PC - convert to AVI and assemble in a video editor - but thats boring 😊

What do you think?

You could even chuck in a few fades between shots!!

What do you think guys?

Will

ok....i purchased Eti on the weekend.....and thought i had entered my registratuon code correctly. But yesterday it started asking me to enter the code!

So i looked and its typed in.....but i could not put the - in.

My code has this many digits

xxxxxxxxxx-xxxxxxxxx

but when u type the - in, the only symbols i get to use are* + p w

help!

mark, to enter the '-' press the # key to get into 'abc' mode then press * to bring up your symbols..

3650addict,

You are actually right! I WAS sleeping... 😉 Anyway, I'm surprised that the latest converter didn't work for you. There are a few things to check -

1. Do you see files named NUB2.dll and NUB2.inf? If YES, right-click on the NUB2.inf and choose Install. Afterward, try the conversion again and see if you can play the file. If NO, you haven't got the latest converter. Download it now.

2. Now that you have the latest code and still not working?!! All right, let's try some other tricks -

3. Right-click on the generated AVI and choose "Properties". Select the "Summary" tab. Do you see near the bottom something like "Video compression Nub Codec 1.0?" If not, you haven't installed the CODEC properly... go back to step 1.

4. Still not working? Oh, boy! 😉 Let's verify that the video is indeed generated correctly. Download this FREE tool called FourCC Changer. Once you installed the tool, open the AVI file with it. Depend on what you see in the list boxes - Do you see "NUB1"? If yes, read 5.1; "NUB0"? Read 5.2. None of those? Read 5.3 instead.

5.1 So it says NUB1? And still no video? MAKE SURE you have downloaded the newest EYECON and you do have files named NUB2.DLL in the C:\EYECON directory. Manually copy the NUB2.DLL file into C:\Windows\System32 and try again.

5.2 NUB0? I wonder how the... Only older version of EYECON generate AVIs with that... so PLEASE make sure you have the newest EYECON. Change the letters, using the FOURCC changer tool, to NUB1 (both lists) and exit the tool to update the change. Now try playing again. Or, if you have other CODECs installed, for example, DivX or Xvid, you can also try changing the letters to DIVX or XVID.

5.3 Now we've got a problem... Refer to the next step for a CLEAN, manual installation.

6. I hope we don't have to do this, but... anyway, let's try this, ready?

6.1 Uninstall the NUB codec. Go to Control Panel, and "Add Remove Software". Locate "NUB Codec" and remove it.

6.2 Click the "Start" button and choose "Run...". Type the following command -
regsvr32 -u c:\eyecon\hcnubsrc.ax

6.3 Repeat the above step but this time type -
regsvr32 c:\eyecon\hcnubsrc.ax

6.4 Locate NUB2.INF and right-click on it and choose "Install". Say "Yes" when prompted. Now you should have the program configured... try again and see if it works.

Basically, you want to be sure you have installed the latest EYECON which can be downloaded in the Series60 Multimedia forum. After unpacking it, MAKE SURE you put all the files into your old C:\EYECON\ directory and overwrite all files in there. After conversion, use the FOURCC tool to verify that you have NUB1 in the AVI. If not, you are definitely not using the latest EYECON.

I hope this helps.
Sorry dfdzgz, i haven't had much time to check out your solutions but today i did. After some frustration, i found out what the problem was! I had 2 NUB codecs installed (NOB0 and NUB2) so i just had to remove "NUB0" via the Control Panel's Add/Remove Program option and it works fine now! Now more -up side down, colours all wrong- movies!!! 😃 SWEEET!!!

___________________________________________________________________________
But now i have a new problem! Since i have installed the latest Version of ETI Camcorder Pro (the one with zoom functions in the Player), the program crashes after a few seconds when i'm recording.

I get the message:

App. closed
ETICamcorder
User 45

or

App. closed
MediaServer
E32USER-CBase 33

And when i was just watching movies in 'My Videos' my phone got stuck and i had to reboot the phone!
It happens spontaneously. I also got this message after 'My Videos' crashed:

App. closed
ETIPlayer
ViewSrv 11

Then i removed that version (with zoom functions in the player) and installed the previous version, and it all works well now.

I don't know what it is but that latest version of the ETI Camcorder Pro with the zoom functions in the player screws up my 3650's phone system. I mean that not only i have errors with the program itself but also with other programs like 'Images' and 'Camera' where i get "App.closed" errors all the time. And even in standby mode i got an error!? What is wrong with that latest version man?!

___________________________________________________________________________
By the way i still have a few adjustments i'd like to see 😃

Camcorder:

- When i'm recording a movie, i'd like to be able to pause and resume with the touch of a softkey and not the scroll key center b/c that makes such a loud click sound that can be heard when playing back the movie. Whilst the softkey is not loud and is therefore much better! 😃 And also easier to handle when i record myself or make a panorama shot or something. I mean that when have to press the scroll key center when i can't see the keypad, i'm never sure if i pressed it right b/c sometimes it clicks to left, right, up or down. It just like the 3650's standard camcorder has.

My Videos:

- In "My Videos", when playing a movie, i'd like see how long the whole movie is. Now i can only see how long the movie is in progress (which is also nice). So kind of like this: "10.39/30.00 sec".

- In "My Videos" I'd (still) like to be able to set playback to repeat.

But i must say that you already did a great job till now!!!! Cheers! 😃

3650addict,

I have NO IDEA why you have problem with the new version... I didn't change anything significant... 😞 Does anyone have the same problem?

Good suggestion on the softkey vs. joystick thing...
