Bluetooth Internet with 6600

Fixed it - and yes, it works! I'm now on MSN through Agile Messenger directly using my laptop's broadband connection! Woohoo!

K my internet connection works, but i can't send an SMS.

I restored my phonebackup and i can SMS again.

Anyone else have this problem?

I have Internet connection sharing on my PC and i'm not sure I have understood the instructions on there.

I wonder, does this problem apply to Mac's as well? If so is there a solution for it?

To surf net using win2k, the only way that i have found to be working is by using a proxy server. Can grab it from www.analogx.com . itz free. However, agilemessenger doesnt work..

can some network expert advise on how to go about getting the NAT thingy up and running? i have tried it on winxp, but it juz report interface is not registered with router. :? :? :?

i've had the same problem, i hadn't named the access point correctly, should be "Bt" not Bt(01) as i'd got it. That fixed it.

I have successfully tried the Access Point solution with Red-M 1050 Bluetooth Access Points.

Here is how to do it:

1. Install the WRAP Office Agent for Nokia 6600 from http://www.bluegiga.com/wrapas/ (read the license first - maybe it would not allow you to use a third party access point - I couldn't be bothered to read it ).

2. Define an access point in your phone with the default settings, then alter them to look like this:

Connection name: "bt access" (the name is important to be exactly like this, including the lowercase)
Data bearer: High speed (GSM)
Dial-up number: any number (they have the default as 123456)
User name: None
Prompt password: No
Password: empty
Authentication: normal
Homepage: none
Data call type: Analogue
Maximum data speed: Automatic

3. Pair your phone with the Red-M 1050 AP and set it as authorised in the Red-M 1050 access point configuration. Do not enforce encryption from the Red-M 1050 AP, and choose "No PPP Authentication".

Of course, the access point should be connected to a network segment with DHCP (or to a network card configured for Internet Connection Sharing or NAT). The newer versions of the Red-M 1050 AP have internal DHCP server, which you can use.

4. Run the Office Agent application on your phone, press "Options", then select "Search Bluetooth AP". Choose the Red-M 1050 AP from the list. Press Back to exit the application.

5. Run Opera or any other internet-enabled application and configure it to use the "bt access" connection. You will be able to surf the net over Bluetooth.

Attention: After step 4, the dial-up number configured in 2 is erased (done by the software). Do not worry, it works without it, as the configuration seems to be remembered by the software. Anyway, if you edit the access point info again in the phone, just add any number there and press "Back" to save it. Run again the Office Agent after this.

If you cannot surf the internet after you have restarted the phone or whatever else, just repeat step 4 again.

I suppose any Bluetooth Access Point would work as long as it has the Dial-Up Netwoking Profile.

In the instructions above, for Step 4, when you run the Office Agent application on the phone immediately after (re)configuring the access point (Step 2), you need to choose Options -> "Create BT AP". This is the moment when the number in the access point configuration "dissapears".

On subsequent usage, choose "Search Bluetooth AP". This would allow you to use multiple Red-M 1050 APs in different locations.

6600: On your PC (Windows XP)
Check that your firewall isn't blocking the connection we want to use. Probably best to disable it first, get these things running and then enable it again, possibly changing some settings for it.

Set up an Incoming Connection for Bluetooth as described by Troy Fontaine. Make sure PC-Suite/mRouter isn't enabled for the Bluetooth serial port.

RIGHT GOT THIS BIT DONE NO PROBLEMS (ABOVE) -

HOWEVER I DONT UNDERSTAND THIS BELOW - PLEASE HELP ME I MUST BE 99% THERE - IT JUST DOESNT WORK - either cant connect to internet or just no message.

If you are able to hand out real addresses on your local area network, this is enough. If not, read further.

Set the Incoming Connection to hand out addresses from a private range, e.g. 10.0.0.1-10.0.0.254. Remove Internet Connection Sharing from all interfaces. Enable NAT on your Windows XP box by typing in a CMD window:

netsh routing ip nat install
netsh routing ip nat add interface "YOUR LAN INTERFACE NAME" full
netsh routing ip nat add interface Internal private

Look up the interface name in the control panel network connections. Note that the 'Internal' name will depend on the language of your Windows XP (e.g. in Finnish it's 'Sis�inen' instead).

i.e. are you using the gnubox technique? if not what is the setup on your phone?
Secondly, what is your Access point? I'm playing with a Tecom BT3021 (which is around that price) - but so far have had no luck with gnubox or the bluegiga officeagent. Also I assume you are using a 6600!?

The bluegiga newsserver had a message saying that to work with their free/demo OfficeAgent s/w you need an access point providing the "LAN Access Point profile with the LAN Access Point role. Typically PC dongles and similar devices only provide the Data Terminal (DT) role... To my understanding some dongles have the possibility to acts as LAN Access Points and with these the Office Agent should work just fine." (Hence my question about which dongle you have).

Now I'm unclear as to whether these profile/role issues are relevent when using the gnubox approach - so perhaps that's a red herring in this scenario. Maybe someone can educate me. In case it isn't clear: I'm happy to go with gnubox or OfficeAgent - whatever works for me!

My dongle is a Trust BT120 adapter (USB). As far as I know, it does not actually have a LAN access point profile, as it certainly doesn't show in the list of profiles (dial up networking, headset etc).

Hmm. So a 6600 can be made to work with gnubox and a USB dongle then.

I guess I'd better go and have another look at my PC settings cos I've tried and failed with this setup thus far. Did you follow Mike Raento's instructions for setting this up or did you figure it out yourself?

For the OfficeAgent application you need the Dial-Up Networking Profile. The Red-M access point I use has both, LAN Access Profile and Dial-Up Networking Profile.

The LAN Access Profile is available for most Bluetooth dongles, but with no use for phones. For the TDK USB BT Dongle, with Widcomm drivers, it creates even a Bluetooth Access Server virtual network adapter, which you can use to perform Internet Connection Sharing with your main connection. This is not useful though for OfficeAgent, nor for gnubox.

gnubox uses a standard serial port profile and PPP conectivity over it. It's like connecting two computers using a serial (RS-232) cable.

OfficeAgent uses the Dial-Up Networking Profile, which is equivalent to using a "modem" on another system (the BT access point) over Bluetooth. Think of using the phone as a modem... the situation is exactly the opposite - the phone uses the other device as a modem. Of course, within the BT access point the modem is virtual, so, as soon as you dial any number, it authenticates you and routes the connection to the LAN.

I hope this clarifies how things work.

On the PC, configure an infrared modem and use the 6600 as one.

Dial up to your ISP, or if you have a GPRS Internet plan, then dial *99#.

My bluetooth device is an MSI PC2PC (BTOes) USB device.

Problem:
1. Set up an Incoming Connection for Bluetooth as described by Troy Fontaine.
1.1 Step 2 of this tutorial is: "Go into Client Applications in the configuration software, and delete Bluetooth Serial Port." Well, I can't delete it. The "remove" button is grey'ed out.

2. Section: On the phone->Use the following settings for it:

"Gateway IP Address: 169.254.1.68"
There is no option anywhere to set the gateway address. I know this is possible on the 7650, but I have never seen it on the 6600.
2.2
"Username: a username that can log in on your Windows box"
No option anywhere to enter a second username (the first beeing RasUser)

So, I'm basically missing some configurations. However, I proceeded with the instructions. Phone->gnubox->2box Direct->Bluetooth.
The "the bgcolor of the gnubox information text goes blue".

I now try to connect with the Bt connection in Opera. The bluetooth trayicon goes green (meaning there's action)....and nothing happens. Opera reports that there was an error connection.

Any help would be GREATLY apprechiated!

By the way...i think I might know what the problem might be (other than the fact that I haven't been able to enter some data since there's been no where to enter it). Under local services of my bluetooth device, the bluetooth serial connection is set to com port 7. Under Network Connections->incomming connections the option selected says: "Communicationcable between 2 machines (COM 8)." COM 8 is assigned CLIENT applications->bluetooth serial port. (the one I could not delete).

UPDATE: I have now managed to delete Client applications->bluetooth serial port (COM8)...so I'm testing again.

Juz wanted to share how i did it, hope this works...

ok... so far i only manage to get 6600 to surf net but not connect to icq or msn thru agilemessenger... the following should work for win2k or winXP or any other machine...

1. Download proxy from www.analogx.com and install it, just setup everything using default, and run it thru start -->programs-->analogx-->proxy-->proxy

2. Determine which COM port your bluetooth is using by right-clicking on your bluetooth tray icon (where the time is displayed) and select Advance Configuration, then go to Local Services tab, EVERYTHING in there EXCEPT Bluetooth Serial Port should be made manual. i.e, ONLY Bluetooth Serial Port is automatic startup, and make sure that Secure Connection is not required. Do take note of the COM port in use, for me, mine is COM9.

3. Next, goto Control Panel -->Phone and Modem Options -->Modem(tabs) and do a ADD, remember to check Don't detect my modem;I will select it from List. and click next. Out pops a window, under manufacturers, select [Standard Modem Types], under Models select [Communications cable between two computers], click NEXT, selected ports should now point to the COM port you have found in step 2. For mi, i choose COM9. Then next next next till you are done. You will see an entry in the Modem(tab). Double-click on the Communication cable between two computers, and set maximum port speed to 115200.

4. Now right-click on your network neighbourhood, Make New Connection. Choose Accept Incoming Connections, Check the Communication cable between two computers(COM9-->again my own port no), click next, select Do not allow virtual private network connections and under users allowed to connect, to make things simple, juz check everything.. heehee.. next again, double-click on Internet Protocol, make sure the Allow callers to access my local area network is CHECKED, Specify TCP/IP Addresses from 10.0.0.1 to 10.0.0.254. Click OK, then click next, then click Finish.

ok, we're done for the setting up on our pc portion... 6600 portion coming right up.. :tongue:

6600 setup..

1. install the gnubox into your 6600 (fone memory or card is up to individual's preference)
2. go to tools-->settings-->connection-->access points-->options-->new access point-->use default settings. Ensure that the connection name=Bt, data bearer=High speed (GSM), dial-up number=any 3 digit, user name = a valid username in your pc, in my case, demouser1, prompt password=No, Password= (password for demouser1), Authentication=normal, Homepage=none, Data call type=Analogue, Maximum data speed=Automatic
3. Then select options-->Advance settings. Phone IP Address=Automatic, Primary Name server=0.0.0.0, Second.name server=0.0.0.0, Proxy serv.address (your pc's ip address, which can be gotten by start-->run-->command prompt-->ipconfig), proxy port number=6588 (the port used by analogx proxy server),Use callback=No, callback type=use server no., callback number=none,user PPP compression=YES,use login script=YES, Login Script=(Pls follow instruction in http://www.cs.helsinki.fi/u/mraento/symbian/bt-ap.html EXACTLY),Modem initialisation=None. Then back back back till you get back to your main menu.

4. What i have found out is, you need to pair up your 6600 with your bluetooth dongle, and set it as authorized. After that, launch gnubox-->options-->2box Direct-->Infrared (Stay with me here.. important step). then options-->2box Direct-->Bluetooth-->select your pc. Then press on your menu button, and fireup your browser, mayb say Doris browser.

5. in Doris Browser, go to options-->preference-->proxy IP Address =(your pc ip),
proxy port=6588, the rest of the options set as default.

6. then try to go to a url, mayb say www.google.com or whichever you prefer... and happy surfing 😊

In the modem part for computers, my bluetooth COM port isn't shopwing up. It's COM3. I'm running WInXP with a IOGear USB bluetooth dongle.

Twinkerz - Do you mind if I use your post as a basis to write something up at some point (probably to go in the supprt section here or as a feature). Obviously will credit you and the original source, but it just might get more attention and would be easier for other to find and link to.

I should add that I'm well into computers but am a comlete newbee in terms of networking. I managed to get a communication cable connection and I can see the 'user' logged in in the network control window. But thats it, as soon as this connection is established my phone (opera) brings up an error message (Connection to server couldn't be established). Since my bluetooth connection seems to work, I guess it has something to do with NAT and the Internet relaying. The manual says:

netsh routing ip nat install
netsh routing ip nat add interface "YOUR LAN INTERFACE NAME" full
netsh routing ip nat add interface Internal private

What am I doing here? I've no idea what these parameters are for. How can I reverse them in case I did something wrong? Where can I see what is routet where?
What is 'MY LAN INTERFACE NAME'? I use a lan-network adapter for my dsl connection, in the network control window it is seen under lan&highspeedinternet as 'LAN-Connection'. Is this the name I have to insert?
What is 'internal private'? Where can I found the name I have to use? I tried 'Internal private', which resulted in an error message. Then I guessed 'intern' and it seems to work. Is this correct?
What else can be wrong?

Reading my own post, I'm afraid I sound really stupid. Usually I lough about ppl using commands and parameters without knowing what they are doing. This time it's me 😮

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
