Bluetooth Internet with 6600
Mika Raento wrote:It _is_ possible to set up a 6600 to use a Bluetooth connection for Internet, you just can't
use mRouter with it. If you have Windows XP or Linux (you might be able to use Win2000),
you can check out my rough instructions at http://www.cs.helsinki.fi/u/mraento/symbian/bt-ap.html.Be warned though: this is not quite end-user friendly.

When I try to use my 6600 to connect internet via pc, it says:"unable to connect. no network coverage". I did ewerything what Raento's instruction tell to do. My software is 4.09.1.
Is this because my phone's GSM tranceiver is not working? (The hole phone works perfect except the GSM-part.
Have anyone tryed to use the bluetooth-pc-internet-connection without network coverage?
Does it work?
just want to say thanx to everyone for all the usefull tips.. i have finally able to setup my own bluetooh internet 😃 after much trials and errors
i also figure it out but i can not surf net in opera, agile messenger and world mate can someone help me
I've followed everything to the letter but when I try to select gnubox->options->2box Direct->Bluetooth I get an error on the phone saying "Unable to connect. Max number of Bluetooth connection already in use."
Any help would be grealty appreciated cause I'm working on a project creating a j2me program that uses a gprs connection and it's costing me a fortune!
edit: right I've solved that problem (had my bluetooth manager connected, idiot!), now when I try to connect using opera I cannot connect and Doris Browser says 'Failed Connect', any ideas?
Thanks,
vaughty
I've tried to connect my Nokia 6600 to the Internet for 3 days, now. I followed all the instructions provided in this forum and the other websites: No success!
Problem1: The protocol of my newly created modem in XP reads (in German):
08-08-2004 04:53:05.300 - Datei: C:\WINDOWS\System32\tapisrv.dll, Version 5.1.2600

08-08-2004 04:53:05.300 - Das ffnen des Modems ist fehlgeschlagen. Fehler: 00000005
The last line is important (i guess): Error opening the modem!
I looked for a new driver for the virtual modem, but couldn't find any. I was only able to download a modem.sys from some obscure website and didn't dare to replace it with the one on the system. So, I'm stuck here....
Problem 2:
After EXACTLY following the instructions for creating a new connection on the Nokia 6600, I tried to start Gnubox many times. Always the same messages.
Start:
Loading CommDb
CSD/GPRS settings...
I think gnubox get's s tuck here and can't load the settings, because whenever i select 2box Direct->Bluetooth I get a "Gnubox:Already in use!" error message....
I guess the second problem is kind of serious....
Any ideas, anybody. I really have to get this working.
What I really need to do is to load data into J2ME/Flash Lite apps from my local test weberver over bluetooth... Do you have to use Gnubox to feed J2ME on the Nokia 6600? Which application work online , when following these instructions:
http://www.russellbeattie.com/notebook/1001649.html
??
I've to add something to the second problem with gnubox:
After the "Gnubox:Already in use!" error message the display reads:
DialOutLSP
Description:
DefaultTelNum: 0815
ModemBearer
No Nokia modem
What means "No Nokia modem?"..That Gnubox couldn't find the created Nokia modem on my pc? Maybe, because the drivers were not installed properly? See problem 1....
hello all ,
I hav read this whole thread .... so , when i tried to apply the modem setting... i.e. adding new modem ... my win xp professional hangs .... so i cant add a new modem .... i tried everything ..... so i wana ask that , is it imp. to go thru this step of adding new modem ....
warm regards to all

Hi there. Can anyone help me.
I've done everything on http://www.cs.helsinki.fi/u/mraento/symbian/bt-ap.html and my phone successfully connects to the PC. (..or at least 50% of the time. Sometimes i get a script error).
However, in services I can successfully access http://www.google.com/wml but after a while it will stop letting me access other pages. Also, i'm not able to get onto http://www.realnetworks.com/mobile/series60.html. Does anyone have an idea why? I'd really like to get streaming radio/video via this connection.
Cheers

I have the same problem. The Bluetooth serial port doesn't show up when I try to add the null modem. Running WinXP, too. Anyone with a solution?

I was getting this too until I started looking through the GNUBOX source and discovered the APN "Bt" is hard coded in the software. I had named mine "BlueTooth" because every time I see "Bt" it goes through a 5 second translation search until I remember it's BlueTooth. Changing the name to "Bt" got me connected.

You might have more luck in a forum dedicated to the t630 since its not a Series 60 or Symbian device for that matter.

BTW Great Forum
Hi all,
I'm trying to set up internet connection on my Nokia 6600 with winXP (Lan internet connection). My dongle is a DLink DBT-120.
I've followed on steps carefully, but it simply doesn't work.
In the Access Point (setup screen on my phone), I have:
D+ (an icon for GSM/Hi, I guess) Bt
Configured as followed (i'm translating from french, may be not the exact terms):
Connection Name: Bt
Data Bearer: GSM/Hi-Rate
Server Phone Number: 222
Username: winxp [indeed I've created it for testing purpose]
Password: 'the password of winxp' (displayed as ****)
Authentication: normal
Home Page: None
Call Data Type: Analogic [not ISDN]
Max Rate: Automatic
Phone IP Address: Automatic
DNS primary: 0.0.0.0
DNS Secondary: 0.0.0.0
Proxy Address: 0.0.0.0 [when testing with netsh, else 192.168.0.74]
Proxy Port: [not defined with netsh, else 6588]
Use callback: No
Callback: Use server phone call number
Callback phone number: None
PPP Compression: Yes
Script To use: yes
Script connection: as found on some sites (begins with CHARMAP....)
I have paired my phone, and use 2Box for:
Direct over Bt
Bluetooth settings...
DialOutSP
Description: Direct 2box
DefaultTelNum:
ModemBearer:
PortName: BTCOMM::0
CSVName: BTCOMM
TSVName: PHONETSV
So, I use a 'Service/Bookmark', in which I've defined Test with using Access Point Bt and http://www.google.com/wml
What it's strange, nothing seems to reach the PC! When the bluetooth serial port is used, winXP used to add a tooltip to show that the serial connection is used by the phone device (it's for example the case with bemused, that is using COM4 too).
If I delete the 'Incoming Connections' I've created on WinXP and listening on COM4 (instead of the Incoming Connections listener) then nothing seems to be received when I'm trying to connect to the internet from my phone. But if i start bemused, some data are received.
During my various attempts, at a given time I've noticed that when I was trying to browse internet from my phone, when the connection was attempted, a tooltip with a blinking phone icon was at the top right of my phone screen and it seems in this case the phone is doing a kind of call (i hear the carrier in my PC speakers like it's the case when i'm about to issue or to receive a phone call). But in this case I get an error like (always translated from french): "Internet: Please check your configuration parameters."
After having use 2Box, the phone number seems to be removed from my Access Point config, is it normal?
How can i check that all steps are done correctly? Is it a kind of log file generated somewhere on phone, or PC.
Help would be greatly appreciated.
Johann
Hi i had gnubox runnig on my noia 6600. I was able to connect via bt to the internet with linux. But it worked only sometimes so i tried it on windows XP SP2 with less success. So i switched back to linux. But it wont work anymore. I made a new AccessPoint and reinstalled gnubox. But gnubox does use the old settings which wont work.
Are there any files left from the last installation?
How can i solve this problem?
Thanks for your help!

be careful that you get it exactly as show here, including linebreaks. You could save it to a file, send to the phone and copy-paste to the settings.
Advanced Settings: Use PPP Compression Yes
In Windows XP i used Kerio Winroute Pro
I configured in Advanced NAT Options Network/mask
IP address of mobile (2 see that ipconfig om CMD prompt)
Mask
Destination any address
and choose outgoing interface that connected to internet
and check do NAT with Spec IP
Leave IP blank
Its work 100 % ( I Didnt use GNUBOX or other software )
It might well be the bluetooth adapter.
I had gnubox running with an AIPTEK bluetooth device and everything was fine. Then I attached the DLink DBT-120 because my boss bought it for his computer and it wouldn't work, so I tried on my computer (because I knew the setup was OK). Result: I didn't even get the serial connection anymore. So I installed the WIDCOMM software (which sucks because it's using a "security code"😉. Still wouldn't work. Switched back to the Aiptek software and bluetooth device - everything's fine again.
Connection via BT works fine to me, thx to http://www.cs.helsinki.fi/u/mraento/symbian/bt-ap.html
