First of all, thanks for the great forum, I found many usefull tips here 😊

Now i want to use my pc's dsl-internet connection for my 6600 and so I followed this manual http://www.cs.helsinki.fi/u/mraento/symbian/bt-ap.html
I should add that I'm well into computers but am a comlete newbee in terms of networking. I managed to get a communication cable connection and I can see the 'user' logged in in the network control window. But thats it, as soon as this connection is established my phone (opera) brings up an error message (Connection to server couldn't be established). Since my bluetooth connection seems to work, I guess it has something to do with NAT and the Internet relaying. The manual says:

netsh routing ip nat install
netsh routing ip nat add interface "YOUR LAN INTERFACE NAME" full
netsh routing ip nat add interface Internal private

What am I doing here? I've no idea what these parameters are for. How can I reverse them in case I did something wrong? Where can I see what is routet where?
What is 'MY LAN INTERFACE NAME'? I use a lan-network adapter for my dsl connection, in the network control window it is seen under lan&highspeedinternet as 'LAN-Connection'. Is this the name I have to insert?
What is 'internal private'? Where can I found the name I have to use? I tried 'Internal private', which resulted in an error message. Then I guessed 'intern' and it seems to work. Is this correct?
What else can be wrong?

Reading my own post, I'm afraid I sound really stupid. Usually I lough about ppl using commands and parameters without knowing what they are doing. This time it's me 😮

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi pille1234,

i'm a noob myself in networking  .. so here goes.. the 1st line is to install NAT onto your machine, the 2nd line is to add the interface for which routing will occur for NAT and 3rd line i'm not too sure already. 😃 😃 anyway, should anything goes wrong, u can always use the command

netsh routing ip nat uninstall to uninstal NAT and start all over.

btw, the "YOUR LAN INTERFACE NAME" is when u right-click on your network neighbourhood-->properties--> the name of the connection that is to the internet... which by default should have been "Local Area Connection" or something like that.

you might want to try other browser such as Doris and see if it works, oso, check thru ur ADSL connection settings on ur 6600, see if the settings are correct..

hope this helps.. 😉

hey thanks for your answer.
I tried and tried, without success so far. For test purposes I followed your way with the proxy server and guess what? Opera worked fine 😊
Unfortunatly AvantGo does not and thats my main purpose for bluetooth INet. Update the phone with current news and read them elsewhere without paying for gprs. I'll sleep about that, maybe tomorrow I have a new idea how to get that to work.

Can You Help Me With My X-micro Bluetooth Usb Dongle To Work With N6600 To Surf The Net Through The Pc

Just Wondering,

Is there anyway to connect my 6600 to the internet thru my PC using IrDA?
(I've read a post explaining the opposie - connecting a PC to the net thru the 6600 and IrDA already)

Cheers!

I'm getting an error when I add the named interface (Local Area Connection). Any ideas? This was working earlier but now even re-installing nat doesnt seem to help. Is this the adapter name i am supposed to use?

Thanks

1. install the gnubox into your 6600 (fone memory or card is up to individual's preference)
2. go to tools-->settings-->connection-->access points-->options-->new access point-->use default settings. Ensure that the connection name=Bt, data bearer=High speed (GSM), dial-up number=any 3 digit, user name = a valid username in your pc, in my case, demouser1, prompt password=No, Password= (password for demouser1), Authentication=normal, Homepage=none, Data call type=Analogue, Maximum data speed=Automatic
3. Then select options-->Advance settings. Phone IP Address=Automatic, Primary Name server=0.0.0.0, Second.name server=0.0.0.0, Proxy serv.address (your pc's ip address, which can be gotten by start-->run-->command prompt-->ipconfig), proxy port number=6588 (the port used by analogx proxy server),Use callback=No, callback type=use server no., callback number=none, user PPP compression=YES,use login script=YES, Login Script=(Pls follow instruction in http://www.cs.helsinki.fi/u/mraento/symbian/bt-ap.html EXACTLY),Modem initialisation=None. Then back back back till you get back to your main menu.

4. What i have found out is, you need to pair up your 6600 with your bluetooth dongle, and set it as authorized. After that, launch gnubox-->options-->2box Direct-->Infrared (Stay with me here.. important step). then options-->2box Direct-->Bluetooth-->select your pc. Then press on your menu button, and fireup your browser, mayb say Doris browser.

5. in Doris Browser, go to options-->preference-->proxy IP Address =(your pc ip),
proxy port=6588, the rest of the options set as default.

6. then try to go to a url, mayb say www.google.com or whichever you prefer... and happy surfing 😊

Many thanks to Mika Raento for his instructions and findings, he is the one who made this possible. 😎 😎 😎

😊 Login Script=(Pls follow instruction in http://www.cs.helsinki.fi/u/mraento/symbian/bt-ap.html EXACTLY) 😊
here is my problem, i cant online pls help me i cant enter that his say

I 've done everything but is not working on my 6600.Actually I don't have a home network,do I have to create one?Where is the network neighbourhood? When I try to setup a home or small office network I reply an error message.I just have an ISDN connection and that's ALL.I 've done all the phone settings and the incoming connection on my PC what else should I do to make it work?I would love to make my phone access the internet throught my PC but I am just a common user and that makes it harder.

Ben.Dummett wrote:I wonder, does this problem apply to Mac's as well? If so is there a solution for it?

Nah, doubt it. Take a look at this page: http://www.cs.helsinki.fi/u/mraento/symbian/bt-ap.html

The linux dund --listen --channel 3 --msdun noauth 169.254.1.68:169.254.1.1 crtscts 115200 ms-dns YOUR_DNS_SERVER lock

is almost the same as the bsd (mac os x) palm bt server. Mrouter is just some pansy version of pppd.

/usr/sbin/pppd /dev/tty.Bluetooth-PDA-Sync 115200 noauth local passive proxyarp asyncmap 0 silent persist :10.0.1.203 &

Obviously you don't want the mrouter ip's

You MAY have to make a new bt serial port w/ the serial port utility to get the 'channel 3' part working (just pair and select the device when you have outgoing clicked). I haven't tried since I have free gprs, but it seems sound.

if you bother let me know that it works😉

how will my other nokia (3650) phone be able to connect to my pc's internet connection?what app should i install to make this happen?

jos1800 wrote:how will my other nokia (3650) phone be able to connect to my pc's internet connection?what app should i install to make this happen?

Search the 3650/7650/N-Gage forums. The procedure is much easier then the one for the 6600.BTW:This is not the correct forum for your post.

ok. finally got it *mostly* working.

A couple of things, earlier problems i was having on XP with "An interface with this name is not registered with the router." -- just reinstall your BT software when it starts happening to you.

Apprently the main reason i could not get the connection going was due to some extra character in my login script. -- best to just run mrouter temporarily (don't forget to disable the incoming connection port first) and use Nokia Suite to create the Bt access point and paste in the script.

I then installed Apache (IIS will do if you already have it) on XP and tried to load up my active IP (192.168.1.5) on the 6600 using opera and I was browsing Apache's test page right away.

I still cannot get traffic to get beyond my internal network 192.168.1.x though, so i'm thinking perhaps this could be fixed by manually setting the Gateway for 10.0.0.1 (this i hope someone here can help me with 😊

HELP!

Thanks in advance

I'm also trying to find out how I can use internet via bluetooth, and it's almost working, but I get the following error with Opera: http://192.168.1.2/ - Connection closed by remote server. I do see an incoming connection, and that works just fine. I have my apache server running at my computer.
someone?

If you have a proxy running or if proxy is setup on your 6600, you don't need it to connect to your PC's apache.

I'm trying to resist but I think i'll be trying out the linux route very soon..

***

TIP: install sygate's firewall (free download), you can the use the Traffic logs to see whether packets are going where they should be going (less guesswork)

how do I make this proxy on my computer?? I have set the proxy server on my phone to 192.168.1.2, also in opera, but do I have to do something to make my proxy work on my computer too?

Could someone with a working setup on XP or W2K that does not make use of a Proxy please post their routing table here.

(Just run cmd.exe and run "route print" on the command window). Maybe we could try duplicating your setup (at lack of anything else to try) 😊

Thanks!

stories wrote:Can anyone clarify if the 6600 can access an internet connection over bluetooth via a Bluetooth Access point?

In one of the BT/Internet access threads somone mentioned this was possible but did not go in to any detail, another mentioned a BT AP with a link to the manufactures site, this AP had a client to install on the handset.

What i'm not sure of is if a notmal BT AP (somthing like a Dlink DBT-900AP) will work or not for sharing internet access with my 6600 over bluetooth.

Cheers

Has anyone managed to successfully get an internet connection with the 6600 using the DBT-900AP dlink BT access point?

The DBT-900AP advertises a Network Access Service and therefore doesn't appear to work with the OfficeAgent solution. Any ideas of existing solutions or the correct commdb settings welcomed.

Works! - only with Linux though. Still hoping to make things work on Win2k without using a proxy.

I'm starting to consider cheating and using nat32. I'll give it a couple more days 😊

I detailed the steps i took to make the connection work flawlessly under linux in
http://www.rlachenal.com/bluetooth-6600-linux/ (way too long to post in a forum)

Btw, for Agile Messenger, just select Passive instead of Bt so it doesn't keep
asking you what AP to use everytime.

Hope that helps.

Hey has anyone managed to get it working on winxp with the new firmware? I just got my phone it's the old firmware and I was wondering if I should upgrade. I don't want to lose the bluetooth internet capability

Hello
I have an idea.
Maby it works, wehn we the software from the 3650 in the nokia 6600 instalieren.
Or only the Internet-Browser and WAP. Can someone try this?

'fraid not. You can't take ROM based executables on one phone and run them on another phone. They're compiled/linked differently than other programs and run only from ROM.

anyone know how to set dial-up modem let my 6600 connect to net??
like
netsh routing ip nat install
netsh routing ip nat add interface "YOUR LAN INTERFACE NAME" full **i using usb modem
netsh routing ip nat add interface Internal private

i using proxy software can let my 6600 connect to internet but cant using AligeMessenger, pls help me how to set??

When I do in
netsh routing ip nat add interface Internal private
in my command window . Then he says that he can't find it , or something like that 😡

I can connect to my pc then , but he keeps standing on connecting to the site :s

I was also wondering if I could do this to destroy my third phone in a month 😉. If Nokia has same dev platform phones, and processors, then is it still impossible to run the same apps from memory since they pass the compilation part as long as the libraries they are linked against reside in the rom of the phone you transfer them to? I just noticed that features became available from my rom that were inhibited by my vendors setting (killed that w/ a hard format) so it seems that part of the boot loader is 'patching' over the rom files...then again it was probably just some allowed API for a background app to hide certain features. So the

doesn't work for sure on 4.09.1's?

mike4000, can I have the settings for ur laptop and also phone?
i tried many times but it doesn't seems to work.. 😞
your help are really appreciated..

this will work on most s60 phone I guess! it has been tested on an NGAGE and on N3650!

step 1:
Creating an access point on your phone!

tools\settings\connection\access points\options\new access point>default settings...

these are the settings u need there..

Connection Name : Anything (sugestion ADLS or PCGPRS something u remember well cuz u'll need it later!)

Data Bearer: GPRS

Access Point Name: The name you gave to your bt connection when pairing up with the computer...

Username : None

Password : No

Authentication : Normal

Gateway IP Address : 0.0.0.0

and that's all on this on this part..

then go to:

tools/settings/connection, and select GPRS

set the GPRS connection to "when available", and the access point to "none".

The settings on your fone are done! now... the next step;

Create a serial port connection from ur pc to ur phone (u've done this before if u ever used Pcsuite from nokia), this serial connection must be on everytime you want to use your pc internet connection as a gprs connection for ur phone!!

Install the software u need to surf the web (opera, netfront, agile messenger for chat, etc..)

My advise to you is to use netfront, the options are pretty cool and it uses less memory meaning u can still run other program such as agile at the same time (it crashed my 3650 when I tried to do it with opera)..

Voil ur ready to use ur phone to surf and chat for free!!

hope this helped you and that is simple and clear!! any question u know where to post, this will be updated if many doubts come up.

ps. works with ngage arena games!!!

Njoy!

Has anyone writen any client/server apps (ie an app for the 6600 to set it up and a winxp app to set that up correctly and nat the connection?) to make getting internet access via a PC on a 6600 easy?

I would have though this is somthing at least one of the s60 software companies would have jumped in on!

Cheers
