they say that the new phone will have triband, MMS, java, Real software, dor video streaming, digital Camera, colour display Symbian OS etc etc... Nothing is said about memory...

Tomorrow Nokia will have a press conference conserning new models. One
of them is 3650 with color display, digital camera, streaming video
and good pricing.

> Naturligtvis r det fr tidigt att yttra sig om priset nnu, men eftersom

Naturally it is quite early to talk about the price, but because its
targeted at young people, it wont propably be as expensive as 7650.

The phone should be able to to play (and make) films with
Realplayer. One could send them via MMS.

> Nokia 3650 ska finns ute p marknaden under frsta kvartalet nsta r och

Nokia 3650 will come to market during 1Q/2003 and have e.g. bluetooth,
triple-band, GPRS and Java.

> Eftersom det r en ungdomstelefon kommer den p gammalt hederligt

As it is a phone to youngsters, it will have a new different design,
as in pictures here.

> Vikten har ocks minskat jmfrt med 7650. Nya 3650 vger blott 130 gram och

The phone weights less than 7650: about 130 grams and the size is
130x57x26 mm. Standby time between 150 and 200 hours and talk time
about 4 hours.

The only thing that suggests to me that it is Symbian is the Real Player.

Nevertheless, it would be well cool to see yet another Symbian phone out there, and this one targetted at the youth audience and not the spotty geeks!

Well,

Now I feel shafted. The "kids version" is more complete than the 7650? Just the video and mmc card make the difference! Looks like nokia rushed out a half-baked product, and will launch the final version disguised as a lower market version - only that it is a more complete "lower market" version. I had already enough problems with the 7110, I should have learned... Possibly the 7650 is the last nokia mobile I am going to buy. Time to look seriously at the P800...

Any email we can write to at nokia to make them feel they should offer a upgrade path from the 7650 to the "whatever number" with mmc and video? I just payed 700 for a phone that is going to be made obsolete by a cheaper version...

WHY IS YOUR PHONE GOING TO BE OBSOLTE!!!! Idiot. It will still do the same thing and is SMALLER than the 3650.

This is the world of technology. get with it grand dad.

And if you think saying "maybe this is last nokia I will buy" then please, go ahead. HAVE YOU EVER USED A MOTOROLLA!!!! I threw mine away after three days. No one can beat Nokia, they make the best phones in the world.

and don't quote MMC memory cards and all that crap. this phone is coming out 6-8 months after the 7650. thats a long time in this business.

the 7650 is a modern masterpiece. please try and respect it.

If you just had the integrity to register, and use a login... But a pimple faced coward who resorts to insults as his main arguments deserves no reply.

I agree I feel cheated, If the 7650 had a Memory expansion slot then I wouldn't be too bothered as you can get video capture software. But anouncing a cheaper model after only a month or two after releasing the 7650 isn't right.

Although the 3650 is really ugly.

One thing to consider is that sometimes the early versions have some higher quality features, before costcutting creeps in. I went from a 7110 (admittedly late generation, final ROM) which was totally problem-free, to a 6310 which was a better phone in many ways but lacked the roller. I always missed it, as well as the open/shut spring slide etc.... the cheaper rocker switch and one-body build of the 'streamlined' 6310 was never as good, though the shape was nicer etc.

The joystick on the 7650 is an obvious analogy (in fact what with the slidey wotsit and the 'first in the next product line' status, the 7650 is the spiritual descendant of the 7110). It works really well but is fiddly to make and I suspect will get swept away in later generations for a wider mass market. Enjoy the original premium product while it is in the 'expensive but high quality' niche.

Are they really going to make a 3XXX model better than a 6XXX, 7XXX, 8XXX or 9XXX? I mean fine, 7650 is better than the other Nokia bar the 9XXX, but then this is their first colour MOBILE PHONE (9XXX is more than a mobile phone). I really doubt they will pack so much features on a lower model.

Adrian

Does anybody have an e-mail address for nokia. I want to let them know how I feel about the release of the 3650. I think we should al let nokia know how we feel cheated by this. I'm going to ask about expanding the 7650 memory in some way, 'cos I fell we are all entitled to some sort of compensation or something.

I agree, we should email nokia, and if they don't give us a decent answer, vote with our wallets, choose ericsson or motorola. All but stinker based phones...

You are gonna complain that a phone that will hit the market a year after yours is gonna be better and cheaper????!?!??! Have you gone mad? Would you ring up Ford and complain that the next years Mondeo is cheaper and better value? Would you write to Intel and moan that your CPU is obsolete in 6 months? To be honest you are making a big fuss of nothing. Why buy a 7series phone that you know will be obsolete a year down the line like the 7110? The 7series is the flagship of new technology, expect in a year or 2 for it to be smashed into the ground, but remember that manufacturers and networks *want* you to upgrade every year.

Ok, maybe I am overreacting. At least my 7110 was good for one year, not surpassed 1 month after launch.

The 7650 has been in the shops what? 2 months now and hasn't been surpassed yet. Nokias next one is NEXT YEAR, and the only alternative is a Sony/Ericsson which isn't even in the same league as the 7650 so you can't really compare them.

I was too busy laughing at the prospect of a motorolla being better than a nokia to register i am sorry.

I mean the v66 is hilarious - have you seen the software!!

face it switchblade has made the argument i was making with a face and with more decorum than me. 😮

Face it we are currently at the cutting edge, as with all things you cannot be at the cutting edge for long. this is even shorter in this industry - and you know what - thats why i love it - whats around the next corner??

My 7650 is insured for 500, so in a years time when there is something better out there, I will accidently break my 7650 and claim for a new phone of 500.

I will be able to upgrade in November anyway as I have two contracts running 6 months apart from each other. (Silly and expensive, I know). But what phone do you guys think I should be looking at getting in 2 months time. The only one that springs to mind is the P800.

Having said that i'm not too keen on Ericsson, they tend to be a bit slow, and have lots of bugs. I've just sold my T68i and I didn't think that much to it. Has anyone used a P800 yet?

All the specs are now on the nokia website - and yes it will have a mmc slot!!!

IMHO the only upgrade from a 7650 is a 9210 or 9210i. The P800 appeals to me in the same way a Ford Fiesta appeals to a millionaire (i.e. not much).

MMC card would be nice - but look at the state of it - I thought the 7650 was big!

Also I seem to remember the 7650 was officially launched in 'Q2 2002' - I managed to get one las month!

I'm guessing the 3650 will actually be available around Xmas 2003 - by which time Nokia will have announced loads of other better phones that will p*ss off people who bought a 3650

Mobile phones - the only things that depreciate faster than cars.

I think it just feels that way because of the recent dip in the mobile market.

Nokia haven't produced a really decent phone for a long time - I've recently spent 2 months without a phone because there was nothing worth getting and I didn't want to tie myself to a contract with a crap phone.

Was actually waiting for the 8910 but (luckily for me) the 7650 hit the high street first - much better value for money and more toys!

I bought a Nokia 9210 last year and less than a year after that, they release 9210i and left my 9210 without and upgrade path. Just imagine how furious I was. Luckily I delayed buying the 7650 because somehow, I knew Nokia would do something like that again. But I never thought they would do it with a lower end model. I mean the 3650 has everything, video capture, triband, an expansion slot for extra memory and even WAP 2.0 compared to 7650's WAP 1.2.1. I wonder what Nokia is going to come up with next. I'm adopting a wait and see attitude for now. Maybe a higher end model will be out soon. Let's wait and see...

Except it won't be surpassed after a month... the 3650 won't be out for another 9 months in practice. enjoy your 7650 while you have it. i'd love one but it's too expensive!

So you're the one to blame for rising insurance costs then?

If you can't afford it, you can't afford it - why should law abiding citizens subsidise your out-stripped ability Vs desire?

Personally, I reckon that the biggest advantage of this new model is that is actually supports the Bluetooth Audio profile - meaning that headsets, carkits, etc. can now be used.

Even though Tri-band, MMC expansion, etc. are nice inclusions, it is the Bluetooth compatibility (or lack thereof) that has stopped me from buying a 7650. Which is a shame...

The 3650 is not in the shops yet, it will be out in Q1/2003. Your 7650 is not surpassed yet. Intel & AMD keep releasing better CPUs every two months - there are better DVD players, better Digital cameras etc. coming all the time... And your 7650 will most certainly get SW upgrades to squish the bugs etc.
