WHY IS YOUR PHONE GOING TO BE OBSOLTE!!!! Idiot. It will still do the same thing and is SMALLER than the 3650.

>> You must be a bit of an idiot: IT's SAME SIZE AND LIGHTER THAN 7650!!

Hey Folks,cool down :-?
you both got right, but why must u start 2 speak like this?
The 3650 is INMO not so heavy, but bigger...
all clear now??
GreetZ and hey: PEACE
Smi

I have checked out the market for months now, and it has now come to a straight choice between the 6310i (just released through Orange), or go for the Sony Ericsson P800.

7650 now versus 3650 next year - this reminds me of why real Nokia users (business / heavy consumers) adopted the 6210 /6310 instead of the 'pretty' 8210/8310 phones. Long term reliability and backup. I have been holding out for a while in hopes of bagging the Sony Ericsson P800; maybe I should be conservative and stick with what I know. Not to mention the upgrade price of 80 (compared to the past price of 130 for 6210) has to be seen as a bargain.

This post is continued on the P800 forum.

People!!

The 3650's keypad looks crappy!!! WHAT WERE THEY THINKING!! I mean, when you write SmS's, you actually know where the "a" and "e" are, just like when you type on a keyboard! You dont "looK" where ya gonna hit your fingers (this is for people who use Pc's frequently) but whats this? a round keypad? How the hell we supposed to write? Or for basic uses, Key-in telephone numbers!!!!

Even my grandma's phone makes this look outdated!!

But on the contrary, it rocks 😃. (my gradma's not the 3650 :P)

Hmm. Seems like there is a lot of discussion on this thread. Nothing like getting my hands dirty too.

1. The 3650, doesnt look as dignified or professional like the 7650.
2. In fact the 7650, is the closest you could get to a PDA-cum-Cellphone in a great looking package. (PDA like apps could be downloaded to make things equal. Grafitti ? Well I find T9 much easier than grafitti.)
3. The 9210 is just that bit bulky.
4. The P800 came close in my reckoning, but it lost out on design. (Also I till now I have only bought ericcson, until my last buy 3310, and I was quite fed up with the firmware bugs. My A3618 rebooted 2-3 times everyday on its own.)
5. The 3650's Keypad. COME ON. They got to be joking. I work for a company that design access control readers, once we had to move the '0' key away from the standard design, boy did we get a lot of flak for even suggesting it. How come they went spastic and designed a circular keypad.
6. The camera function on the 7650 is only there as a USP. Its useful only for moments when you are stuck without a digicam. There are no focus and zoom features so pretty useless. I wonder what you are going to do with a movie rec. on the 3650.
7. The memory expansion on the 3650 is indeed a good feature (too bad they couldnt do it on the 7650). But I have read in many places that Bluetooth memory cards are available (SONY I think). I was wondering - IF this could be integrated, do we only need to carry the memory module on our person, or does it need to be near the phone ? Also what will be the battery drain.
8. SW development on the 7650 is still a pain, you need VC++ and then the SDK etc... I wish Nokia did something about this, I am sure many people will like to write software for free. This will really revolutionise the market.

All in all, I would be caught dead with a 3650 in my hand. I shall stick to the 7650 until THE ACTUAL '7650i' comes up.. (A 7650 with more dream features).

Well these are my thoughts, flame me well and truly 😊

The 3650 comes with 4Mb of RAm just like the 7650 But it is upgradable.

Nokia has now revealed the next-generation Series 60 phone, which effectively is the 7650's big brother although it's placed in Nokia's 3000 series and thus targeted at the young and trendy.

Like the Nokia 7650, the 3650 sports an integrated digital camera capable of taking pictures in VGA resolution, 4 MB RAM a 12-bit color display, GSM, GPRS, HSCSD and Bluetooth - but there are some subtle differences as well. Apart from the updated looks of the 3650, which sports a rotary style keypad, the phone has tri-band and not dual-band GSM, its Bluetooth is likely to support Bluetooth headsets and car kits - meaning it's v1.1, and there is also an integrated MMC card expansion slot.

Also, despite the Nokia 7650 also having an integrated digital camera, it's only capable of taking pictures while the 3650 will come with software to record and play back video, and will also be bundled with the Series 60 version of the RealOne Mobile player, recently exposed by infoSync. Something else is new in the software department as well, and that's an WAP 2.0/XHTML browser that among other things supports browsing i-mode content; the Nokia 7650 only comes with a WAP browser.

J2ME and MMS support is also present in the 3650, and Nokia will be offering a new Photo Zone service to share photos and send e-cards. Continuing the theme of sharing experiences, Nokia also said the 3650 would support multi-party game play over infrared and Bluetooth without delving into deeper detail.

The Nokia 3650 phone weighs 130 g, and comes with an 850 mAh Lithium ion battery where the Nokia 7650 only has a 650 mAh battery, giving 3650 a talk time of up to 4 hours hours, a standby time of up to 8 days and a faster charging time of approximately one hour. Also, user-changeable Xpress-on covers which will be shipping along with the 3650 in early 2003 will be available to allow owners to personalize their handset as with other youth-targeted phones from the company.

I was wondering - IF this could be integrated, do we only need to carry the memory module on our person, or does it need to be near the phone ? Also what will be the battery drain.

Cool idea - I can imagine having a 2GB hard drive on my person accessable by both my IPAQ and phone!

I can understand why people would get annoyed at nokia releasing a phone with more features, as the 7650 is probably the most expensive phone they've bought (particularly the early adopters).

But... comparing the 7650 to the 3650 is like comparing the 3310 to the 5510, sure the 5510 has a few more features and a qwerty keypad but they're aimed at different sections of the market. I wonder if people who bought the 3310/3330 felt cheated when the 5510 came out?

In my view the 3650 will be a nice playground toy for the schoolies but could you really imagine yourself putting it on the table at a corporate meeting? MMC support is undoubtably a great ommission on the 7650, but not as big an ommission as the bluetooth audio profile. :x Also, consider what keeping a 64Mb 3v card in the phone will do to battery life!

Video capture? :-? Hmmmm, well unless it can compress the 640x480 video into something that won't cost a fortune to send via mms/gprs then it's actually pretty pointless, and again, it raises the point about the implications of keeping a large memory card installed in the phone.

Let's face it, the 7650 is a cracking piece of technology, it is without a doubt the most significant new release in an otherwise stagnant market (I never upgraded my 7110 until the 7650 came out as there simply wasn't anything else worthwhile in the shops), and if nokia release something else in 9-12 months that isn't a "teenie-phone" then I guess it just proves that we live in a world where all technology has a very short lifespan.

Come on! The 7650 is still a great phone, and to all those whingers out there, there's a 7650i coming out very shortly that is meant to make the 3650 look inferior. (not to mention uglier 😊 ) And many of you are still ignoring the fact that the 7650 has been out for several months already. Also, the 7110 was a DUD phone. It was crappy, large, and, as stats show, was bought by few. You are better off looking at past Nokias such as the 8210 and 8850. Both these were released way back in 1998 and (through some help from the 8850 gold edition) the 8850 kept up its sales right through until the release of the 8855s and 8910s. These are the phones (among others like the 5110 and 3210) that have made Nokia what they are today. All were small, lightweight and offered features popular to the market at their time of release.

Thanks, I feel much better now 😊
[b]Come on! The 7650 is still a great phone, and to all those whingers out there, there's a 7650i coming out very shortly
THERE IS NO sodding 7650i - and even if there were, it wouldent be coming out shortly as there is no mention of it from Nokia. :x

Forget a 2GB disk connected by Bluetooth - I already have a 20GB MP3 player that acts as a reliable backup for PC data (Archos Jukebox) ... all I want now is a Bluetooth connector for that (USB connection or no doubt, a newer device with integrated BT will emerge) and then, hey presto, memory problem solved.

Anyone heard any new info bout 7650i? Lets face it, it will come in some way. The talk of 7650i just being a triband for the US sounds really strange. In the past Nokia-i phones have had better features. And phones for the US market usually gets another name, like 7670 or something. And Nokia will (before or later) have to do something about memory slot and audio profile, and when theyve done that 7650 will be even better. It probably will be presented (as some people claim) on 26th september.

Okay so lets say for one min that there will be such a release as the 6750i (which there wont). A US version is most likely (but forget that). It will take a good 6-8 months before the release date (to physically produce it - look at all other nokia press releases) You then have to allow the standard one month delay for all Nokia products. So reallity check, when the new one comes out, people will be thinking of upgrading anyway, - no worry.

As for the memory expansion. Nokia would not do this. It would drive sales away from the 3650, which although is alimed at younger groups, it still will house similar 7650 features. Besides, I'd give it a month before bluetooth memory expansions are standard with 7650 users. But now I am just rambling, so I am going to stop. Really

Actually there will be a 7650i. I think people might be underwhelmed by it though.

As to we haven;t heard about it yet... well how many people knew about the 3650 before it was announced. It could be announced tomorrow for all we know... I think it be December though... similar to the 9210 -> 9210i

Looks crappy?? Everybody in this forum is making a fuss about new technology. Have you even given a slightest thought that you might be looking a new approach in the keypad also? Why the early phones had round dialling - because it was easy to use! Who said that the computer or calculator style keypad is easy to use? It works fine if the calculator or computer is against a table but a phone is in your hand. You use your phone with one hand or two hands. Most people use them with one hand, only most enthusiastic people using SMS use both hands. They use both hands because it makes writing faster. Do you think the current keypad is optimised for using your both thumbs?

Well, look 3650 closer. Imagine using it with your both thumbs. You just move your thumbs up and down and all the numbers and letters are nicely available. No stretching needed. A agree that it requires some learning to do before you remember where everything is. But I think we are looking at a VERY good improvement on your typing speed.

So go on, blame the new keyboard and never try it. I thought it were only the old people who sweared that they would never touch on new technology 😃

For all htose who think that the P800 will be here soon ... sowwy, it seems like yet another delay
You are gonna complain that a phone that will hit the market a year after yours is gonna be better and cheaper????!?!??! Have you gone mad? Would you ring up Ford and complain that the next years Mondeo is cheaper and better value? Would you write to Intel and moan that your CPU is obsolete in 6 months? To be honest you are making a big fuss of nothing. Why buy a 7series phone that you know will be obsolete a year down the line like the 7110? The 7series is the flagship of new technology, expect in a year or 2 for it to be smashed into the ground, but remember that manufacturers and networks *want* you to upgrade every year.
wrong! here in germany the networks sell phones with 2-years-contracts ... and 2 years are very looong. Seeing all your friends getting better and better phones is a pain in the ass ... when my current contract ends (september 2004) UMTS might be more than normal, and i missed the start 😞

Scythe *demanding a memory upgrade for all 7650-users*

Sorry no offense, but you should think of that before buying your phone! You knew that the phone has only 4 MB of memory! For example you cant give 10.000 euros for a car and then after a month expect a BMW to give you a better engine! be happy you have the best phone around, or buy a PDA!

😊

You don't have to upgrade. I never switch until it really is called for.

Seeing all your friends getting better and better phones is a pain in the ass

Ain't that a little childish?

If you don't like the current 7650 then just don't buy it ;p
I will be able to upgrade in November anyway as I have two contracts running 6 months apart from each other. (Silly and expensive, I know). But what phone do you guys think I should be looking at getting in 2 months time. The only one that springs to mind is the P800.

Having said that i'm not too keen on Ericsson, they tend to be a bit slow, and have lots of bugs. I've just sold my T68i and I didn't think that much to it. Has anyone used a P800 yet?
yes the amazing possibilities of th s/e p800 is wonderful.. currently i am enjoying it and think beats the hell out of the 3650 in terms of presentation. i think the rounded keypad blew off the chance of the 3650 to be a great phone.

why dont we wait for the upcoming N6650 it is the first dual band 3G phone that nokia is going to release i think by the 2Q of 2003

I have just seen the new 3650,and have held, but not owned one. This is one for all you product liabilty lawyers out there. Take a look at the crappy "New layout", (Nokias words not mine!!) keyboard. Am I so far the only one to spot that it appears to be a very cheap and nasty rubbery overlay ( alal zx spectrum!!!, remember those!!!) My point is,I wonder how long its gonna be before we hear reports of people putting fingers, and other objects through the rather nasty looking keypad. It looks flimsy , it feels flimsy, and guess what,it probably Is flimsy. As for the camera,I agree wholeheartedly that the resolution is not good, and need better!!. Apparently its also a speaker phone, but i bet i cant even hear it stood next to it, with a train rumbling away in the distance, and no im not bl**dy deaf. Have fun with your new toy ppl Im gonna stick with my nothing wrong with it 7650,which incidentally is for sale for 150,lol

I think the 7650 is a good fone, the only thing thats pissed me off about it is it has not got bluetooth voice so you cant use it with a headset or car kit, that is kin stupid, why make a top spec fone without bluetooth voice

Sorry fools... The Nokia 3650 is the best phone ever! Say goodbye to Nokia 7650 "the girl phone" haha... and welcome to the "new stuff" as Nokia 3650!!!

What is with these guys, they revive two months old dead disussion to say:Sorry fools? I really dont get it 😮
Sorry fools... The Nokia 3650 is the best phone ever! Say goodbye to Nokia 7650 "the girl phone" haha... and welcome to the "new stuff" as Nokia 3650!!!
I don't know but nokia advertised 3650 as a girl phone (at least that's what I saw on TV and Web advertisements). Now who is the fool. 7650 users for owning it because it fullfils their needs, Nokia for not knowing their target market, or YOU for digging up old threads and offending others...

I had a 3650 but i ended up selling it. I went back to a blue 7650 😃

1) videos on the 7650 was better
2) sound on the 7650 was better
3) resale value of the 3650 sucks
4) directional keypad of the 3650 sucks compared to the joystick of the 7650
5) keypads of the 3650 and the size of the ....hahahaha
