Come to think of it, how is this going to work??, You will need some sort of program to access the data on the seperate HD. Say you had a Real Player Movie on it, how would you tell Real Player that the data you want is on a seperate HD? The only thing I can think of is if you wanted to use a program you would have to upload it to your phone to use it as thats the only place where the program could run from. But then your still limited to your 3.6mb
I really don't think were ever gonna get more memory for this phone unless Nokia offers an upgrade. 😮ops:
the idea was good but for 200 i would rather email excess piccies and what not to my account with GPRS costs !
If it was poss to leave in pocket and watch compressed DIVX stuff then yeah no probs gr8 ill have a couple !
Since the BT Hard-drive is designed for mobile devices, an the lack of memory for the 7650 is no secret i guess there will be software support for the 7650! Meaning that Toshiba can create a programm/driver that create another drive in the phone or replace c drive and make it g or something an then use the BT HD as c: ! I don't have a clue if this is possible but I would be a way of doing it!
BUT, even if the HD is BT that does not mean that it will work with any BT enabled device! Lets hope Nokia or Toshiba will support this!
If this happens though as someone said expect a battery life of an hour with heavy useage.
Is this any use?

No, sorry! This Adds bluetooth compatibility to a device! The 7650 already has it! :-?
Bluetooth doesn't drain the battery as much as you'd expect it to. There are five 7650 owners at work and we all leave bluetooth on throughout the day (send pictures and notes to each other on occasion). My battery still lasts just under two days without a charge and thats with bluetooth on from 9am - 5pm
BTW, I was in a resturant the other night, and my friend asked me to bluetooth him a contact, which i did. When searching for devices I found "Khilieen's 6310i" as a joke we tried to send small images and notes to the random guy but it wouldn't work. 😊
How far does the bluetooth signal reach?
And I assume it didn't work because he would have had to accept the connection, would have been funny though.
According to the "theoretical specs" for Bluetooth, it should work up to a distance of 10 metres.
The signal is supposed to be 10m, i expected far less but we measured (we're so sad/bored) the maximum distance we could achieve and we managed to get 13-ish metres with an un-obstructed line of sight.
When searching for other devices in the resturant, I found the other guy's phone before my friend's. I've no idea how far away the 6310i owner was but it couldnt have been closer than my mate, whose phone was on the table.
As far as accepting the transfer goes, here's the wired bit, searching was fine but the transfer failed as soon as I hit the 'send' button. There was no way he could have rejected it that quickly everytime. Even stranger, when I tried requsting a new partnership (not witth the man you understand, just his phone 😃 .) which enables file sending without authorisation, it WAS recieved by his phone; we heard the beep.
Hmm... maybe 6310's can't recieve images and txt files.
Is there a way to browse another Symbian phone using a file browser via bluetooth?
I red a few post before that the flash rom is 32Mb why we only get 4 of it?? you can't tell me that the OS takes 28megs!! it would be bigger than win3.11!!! even the nokia 6210 has a 32Mb flash onboard
i think the 4MB is a software limitation i mean that the os can't adress more on this release. if youre taking a portable BT hdd than you can bether take an BT enabled PDA whit replacable storage!
if my mem. is full whit pic's i up it to my mailbox, club nokia offerce free picture storage. the only point is that i haven't got gprs at the moment so upping 4megs is an expensive job.
it's not posible to hardware upgrade the storage as easy as the palm m100 therefor you had to solder a little resistor to another place so it supported bigger adressing.

6210 has 32 megabit of ram. That's 4 megabyte.
7650 has 32 megabyte of RAM. And yes, the system IS that big 😞
ahh well suppose theres some heavy 32bit icons and what not there, and gees that great nokia start up logo with the handshake, theres 5mb there
hehe :P
Looks like you didn't get the point..of course if the pinout matches you can change. Now the thing is Nokia keeps a copy of the IMEI in the flash device. If you change it you'll get a nice "??????????????" IMEI number and the phone will reset itself every 32 seconds (has a security watchdog). Now, if you're willing to ruin the phone, go ahead, but personally i would NOT recommend that. :-?
Looks like you didn't get the point I did not know that the IMEI was in the Flash
Dont just assume every one knows the internal workings of the software, now if you had of said the IMEI number is in the flash, I would have said fair enough but to just say
It's a 32 mega BGA flash device. Sure, it can be changed, and after you do let me know what does the phone after exactly 32 seconds from powering it on
oh by the 32 mega is not a measurment of size its either Mb or Mbit and its a 4Mb divice.
At the end of the day I am just passing ideas around like the rest of you
Dont be so quick to be such an ass.
Dear Nokia,
If you have had the patience to read this thread upto here, then you must know by now, HOW DESPERATE WE ARE, for more memory.
Firstly tell us, is it possible to upgrade the memory by just a chip upgrade (i.e. do you have enough address lines available ??)
If so, why cant YOU provide this ?? Come on, I will cough out a few $$ for this upgrade ?? So will many others ?? Geez, there are people talking about putting a bluetooth HARD DISK for 300$..
Warm Regards.
PS: Guyz, maybe we should ask Nokia more formally... Rafe ? Any suggestions ??
although this has been said before in other threads,
when you install, and remove apps, and other stuff on the phone.. you'll notice that memory gets 'eaten' away(?)
like the phones' getting too fragmented.. too much clutter around.
can anyone verify this?
so what then should be done about this? not to install / remove programs too many times? or .... ?
feedback please! cool 😃
you probably coulda made a new thread for that question
But I have often thought that myself
as far as I know the only alternative is to format the phone.
Yes you can format it and restore it to the orgiinal factory settings.
Or someone needs to develop a phone fragmentor 😊
There will be no memory upgrade, maybe external.
The only changes that will be made are software changes, I'm trying to push Nokia to make the bluetooth usable with the bluetooth headset and carkit.
by the way, Bluetooth is in two different qualities!
you've got the 0dBm Class 3 this one has a max. distance of 10m
the other is the +20dBm Class 1 this one has a max distance of 100m
bluetooth communicates on 2.4 GHz freq.
Can you push harder please 😊 I can push with you if you want! I am sure everybody in this forum will push!
A question though, Is it possible to actually increase the memory internally? I dont mean NOkia doing it, but someone with the right knowledge?
Ah why didnt Nokia jsut put a bigger chip in it to begin with
Some might say that they thought that 3.5 MB would be enogh, like Bill Gates thought the 640k wil be enough for PCs 😊 But surely this was an mistake and the proof is the 3650 which has a MMC slot.
Se let me tell you what pisses me off! The 7650 should be a very profersional phone for people on the move right to send emails and stuff! Wouldn't it be OBVIOUS tou add BT audioprofile for people who want to use their hands for writing emails, and doing stuff that businessmen do?
So why do you add BT audio for the 3650? So that KIDS can listen to the MP3s with a 150 GP headphone? I dont think so!!!
As I said, the 7650 is a prototype and we are the Beta testers! 😊
I think it's possible with the right knowledge.
Maybe that they would put a bigger memory in but wanted first to know if the concept sells, telecomcompanies are still in a unstable position. Everybody has already a mobile so you have to make something really different but must not scare people away. Look at the computers, if you buy one it is already old, if you know what I mean.
If you need more info just ask.
I understand your point!
The only thing that really I think is really intemedating is that a phone like the 3650 which will be cheaper, has something that I am sure Nokia did not think of at the beggining, like MMC and BT Audio! Why make a lower class phone BETTER than a higher class one like the 7650, and at the same time cheaper??
Still the 7650 is way better looking compared to the 3650 but this depends on personal preference I guess. 😊
Thanx for the infor BTW!
i think all electronic stuff is like that
i mean it's step by step as for example like computer why they not put pentium 3 instead of pentium 2.
and maybe why they not put all new feature in the device
umm.. maybe this is a market stragtegy 😃 😃
this just my thought
don;t blame me on anything bout it
The thing is that when you buy a P4 2.0 computer for lets say 1000 after some months you but a P4 2.4 again 1000! Not 800 becasue the P4 2.0 will cost that much! I dont know if you get my point though 😞
also like Nokia 8850 is still far expensive than the Nokia 3510 but the fact is Nokia 3510 far more advanced and feature packed
but maybe series 8xxx is different with series 7xxx
I think the 8850 has the metalic cover that makes it so expensive! :-?
Edited!
ahh yes 8850
i almost want to tell that not all 8xxx has the mettalic covers
hahaha
but i think it's up to Nokia what they want to release in the next future
cos i only buy phone that i like 😃 😃
for 3650 if it;s cheap maybe i'll buy it to play with it
