RELEASE 60 " What do you think ? "

Earlier I reported this bug. This was before updating, I think..

I've been having this problem from the beginning.

Every once and again it seems the loudspeakers get disabled for some functions or even sound formats.
I noticed yesterday that the phone just vibrated when receiving a message, so I tried to change to another ringtone and it wouldn't work either.
Another aspect of this problem is that the volume can't be maxed (to hear the ringtones at all except for a wav-file), probably because the phonespeaker can't handle this.
I firts noticed this while using the mp3-player, the sound was awful and crackling and when I listened closer I found out the sound was coming form the phonespeaker. Here, again, you can't max the volume or you lose all sound.
A reboot fixes the problem.

I didn't do anything with the phone for it to act like this. I received a sms an hour or so before it acted up, and the ringtone could be heard then.

Anyway it's still present now, so it can be put on the list.

I really would like to copy my contacts to my simcard. Maybe that can be put on the buglist as well.

That's not a bug, it's a feature request. As such, it shouldn't go in the bugs list.

It's one of the basic things a phone should have, like the sms counter. This is the only phone that does not have this feature which I consider very usefull. It doesn't matter to me if it's a bug or a feature, I just want to make Sendo notice it.

The SMS counter is fixed in the next release. Sorry, but it just missed out getting into the current release:

With the way things are going, do you think that the Voda update will just wait until the new firmware is out since Vodafone are not looking like they are too bothered with the current firmware?

As a workaround, if you open the Options menu and then close it you will normally see the count flicker briefly on screen before being overwritten. If that is too unreliable for you, use the Message Details option and you will see the counter in the place it should be - it gets overwritten when you select OK.

No problem. By the way, even without the counter, the X will warn you if your message does not fit in one SMS.

...and the counter does get displayed when actually sending the message.

As Kev says, it's fixed in the next release 😊

Yes, but by then it would be too late if it were the only means of ensuring you didn't exceed one SMS.

That bug doesn't bother me, and unless I hear that some serious bugs have been fixed in the next release I may not even bother to upgrade. Without a memory card I am reliant on the PC backup software to restore my settings, which it failed to do - apart from some of the pictures, messages etc.

I am primarly interested in the "copy to simcard" feature. Do you have any information about it being implemented in the next firmware update?

...don't think that's in the next firmware, due in part to not really being a bug. I may be wrong of course...

The main problem with this is that the contact info in the handset contains a lot more than can be inserted into the SIM card record, having address fields, notes, multiple phone numbers, name and company details, etc.

If/when a "Copy to SIM" option is done, it will need to "strip out" the info it cannot insert onto the SIM, then decide which number to use, then somehow work out the name / company / etc that should go onto the SIM record. That last part is quite hard, as there is the name length to consider. A SIM does not have much space in it (15 characters), so where to "chop" it? Do we use all of the first name(s) and lose all/last bit of the surname, or just use the first letter of the first name and all of the surname? Also, is the name or the company more important?

If you can suggest an alogrithm that suits eveyone, then we can consider it, but that is really why it has been left out. The Series 60 contact record is very good at holding all of the info as a single record. I am sure if the copy option was in there, we would have many complaints as to the fact it doesn't quite work how some people would want it too.

...of course, the other problem is that you don't know how every person stores entries on their phone - I tend to use the first name field only (as I can't stand the surname being put before the first name) - so, if it were decided to use the first character of the first name, and then the rest of the surname, I would get lots of contacts listed as

a
a
b
b
b
c
c
c
d
e
e
f
f
h
h
h
h
h
h
...you get the idea.

Kev, how's this for an algorithm:
I think the first thing to check would be the values of each name / company field - if you receive a null value, then the field can safely be ignored.
If the value of both fields adds up to less than 15, copy both.
If one has a value of 4 and the other has a value of 16, copy (say) the first two from the field witha value of 4, then the first 13 from the field with a value of 16. Where you have more than one phone number, copy the default number, then make a new entry with the same name, apart from drop the last character off the name, and add a 1, 2, 3 etc on the end of the name. Then copy the other phone numbers in order...

The first check could be on null value's in the name set contact list entry (the list you see when searching a contact) If one of them is null AND the other is shorter then 15 character that (the filled value) could be used as a sim-card entry name.
If it's longer I personally think it would be logical to assum the name was inserted like stuclark and I 😊 do. Hence the first character (Not being a Space-value or other mark) before the next space-character+ SPACE+ all the characters (<14) can be the entry name.

The problem with thinking out an algorithm lies very much in the use of the contact entries. The way stuclark and I "resolve" the surname "problem" isn't theonly option. Some people fill in surname as the first nameto fix that. On the other hand, that woul be unlogical, hence not something to consider?

(P.S. Never used hence that often in such a short text 😃 )

I don't know if it's a known bug or just an instance that just occured, but I was transferring a file to the X and I was called. The transfer stopped (progress bar on my monitor) and after I hung up the phone it wouldn't continue, nor would it allow me to change (on the X) the settings a.k.a turn bluetooth off or make it invisible (or whatever the english name for the setting is) to other devices. I tried calling the phone again to see if it had any effect, and after the call tried to turn bluetooth off but that didn't work. I do get a "Application BTUI closed"-Error if I try to change a setting and then close the bluetooth menu.
A reboot fixes the problems.

I had that once, but i wasnt transferring any files, i just had bluetooth on because i had been bluejacking that day. When i tried to turn it off i couldnt until i rebooted.

I dont know about anyone else but im just waiting for Vodafone to give the thumbs up on the latest firmware

So, am I the only person here from the UK who's got a sim-free phone that isn't from Expansys, but is waiting for new firmware?

I haven't seen any mention of it at all. Do I have a unique phone or is everyone else just more patient than I am!? 😊

Hang on, the 'About' module reckons my phone is from Expansys (not the CPW where it actually came from) but it's a different variant from the one on the Sendo web-site. Now I'm really confused!
