PSILOC Space Doubler ...... Awesome App!

185 replies · 27,628 views · Started 28 November 2002

Psiloc have just released Space Doubler...

Similar to SCompress, but will automatically unpack and run app when you select it, and will also repack the app when you exit.

Keeps your packed apps in the menu too!!

Downloaded the trial and tested it, its awesome.

A killer app!!!!

Mr G

Update:

Space Doubler seems to have an 8k overhead per packed app compared to scompress

E.G.
TriplePOP = 121k scompress, 128k spacedoubler
HantroCP = 98k scompress, 106k spacedoubler

spacedoubler prob needs this as a header on the packed app to tell it how to decompress

However, the size of the spacedoubler app is 37k, compared to 84k of scompress.

V happy here

Cheers m8, was so excited about it, forgot the link 😊

Mr G

Another Update:

It appears that any packed apps suffer from slight screen corruption around the titlebar/icon when they are unpacked and run.

Happens to all my apps

Can anyone else confirm this b4 I send a mail to Psiloc

Cheers.

Just had a mail from Psiloc to say they have fixed this.

New version (0.96) available on their site.

Install new ver, unpack and repack your apps.

Mr G

Really nice program!
Just saved 670kb of memory.

And it just take a second or so longer to start the programs.

Hi,
Thank you for your interest in sDoubler.
We will be improving the commpression methods to reduce time and space.
We are looking forward to hearing your feedback.

Cheers guys, you are onto a winner with this one 😊

Well, what happens if you have installed and compressed applications and lets say 200kb left! What happens if you try to play a game for example that will uncompress more than 200kb! has anyone tested this?

sCompress had that particular bug in the first public version (Memory Fill,Phone Crashing and such),they fixed it really fast,so if Space Doubler has that same problem,it would not be too hard to fix it.

space doubler is a stupid app, i deleted all the files that i compressed because it wont decompress it!!!!

well, i haven't given it a go yet.. but i'm thinking maybe that it won't allow you to decompress because you have too little space left?

"sDoubler will not allow you to uncompress if after uncompressing there is less space than 150 kB. It is the safe amount that 7650 will not crash."

so prob. just clear up more space, and it shld let you decompress?

any other feedback/comments about this app?

Maybe the forum gods could make a point per point comparison against competitors of Space doubler, namely sCompress.

Better yet, maybe they could have this comparison data fact sheet for all other products competing with each other. This way, we, the customers will benefit most from it. Not to mention, money wise.

Say, what happens if there's this new tool that you have bought and theres another tool having the same functionality...etc. You can or you can't buy everything.

😮

If you are going to talk about SpaceDoubler like that, at least tell us what happend and what error messages you got!

from what i'm reading, i believe that this sdoubler is better than sCompress simply because for all of us without the latest firmware upgraded, it's going to crash our phone - when we uncompress!

can anyone correct me if i'm wrong?

They fixed the problem with 3.12 I think! The differences are that spacedoubler is basicaly automated....

Hi,
To anas7650:
We are sorry to hear your opinion. We have tested and we never had such problem. Could you send us your feedback explaining your problem?

A couple of things that I'm concerned about:

1. Uninstalling sDoubler leaves apps compressed and thus they are unusable!

2. What happens when trial period is over? Does it again leave apps compressed?

3. What happens when I uninstall a compressed app? Are the compressed files left on disk?

4. These compressers of course become obsolete when 3650 hits the markets.

PsiNT Helper - 6kb (i guess i dont need any helper on my phone :-? )

well .... your thoughts ?
😃

Well 1,2 are not their problem......if you zip a file with WinZip on Windows......does it uncompress it when you uninstall WinZip?...No...does it uncompress files when the trial is over?......No.

About 4. I dont think so....I would like to save space even though I can have a 128mb MMC card for example....we compress files on the PC and have like 80Gb hard disk....why not on a 128MMC card?

It's a killer app, I only wish it will compress midlets too.

And I agree with above point, this will be useful even with 3650.

The eLib installation is so that the developers can put standard routines into a single place rather than have the same code individually installed for different applications. Makes sense to me.

Yep its good but its another ~ 40 kb
and prog is same size as Scompres 8)

Anyway - its great app ....

Yup, v good idea, modular code and all that.

Any psiloc prog installs these 2 files if you don't already have one of their products installed. I first noticed them when I installed Task Manager.

As for sDoubler becoming obsolete when the 3650 comes out, its a bold assumption to make that everyone who owns a 7650 will bin it and get a 3650.......

Mr G

i dont like 3650 😞 its like a toy.
and 7650 have interesting design 😊 & since i have yftp app - i can upload & download files on ftp server =)
