New Firmware v4 available
Hi guys i've been reading these posts about updateing firmware, can anyone tell me if they have flashed a vodafone n80, and with it being generic op system afterwards does the wap browser work ok for vodafone live. The reason i'm asking is when i flashed a v3x with generic when you went to vodafone live with the wap browser there where no pics come up just a white screen with writing here and there. I know its down to the Phone operators and how they configure there browsers, just wondered if it still works ok with generic and the n80.
Thx tingull😊
i have updated my phone to v4, and antivirus was not installed neither was adobe also where is this phone search option? and under connectivity -> device mgr i have a server "unnamed" when i clik options -> start config -> "server not responding" i dont have the check for updates option.
any ideas please. thanks
Just flashed my N80 (first time I've tried anything like this) and it is working perfectly. Firmware version 4.0623.0.41
26-07-2006
RM-92
Nokia N80 (08)
Can't see antivirus but I do have an update option in device manager.
Recommend backing up phone memory using PC suite (phone only not memory card) and removing both the SIM and memory card if you are upgrading.
Do your upgrade and then re-install PC suite and restore your settings. I've still got my Vodafone WAP etc.
PC Suite worked fine but couldn't sync with outlook. I took the momory card out and did a factory reset of the phone. This sorted the sync issue out.

I flashed my Vodafone (Ireland) N80 to V3.xxxxx and now to V4.xxxx, before i flashed the phone to V3 i set up Live and MMS settings and worked fine (cant remember about pics though). After both upgrades however i cant get either to work at all, i dont use these features so i dont mind. I could have set up the access points wrong however.. Ah well..

So you cannot go back from the latest generic to a network provider's firmware, if that is at a different level?
I ask because the generic firmware doesnt have the security certificates which are in the Three firmware (only just realised this).

Trying to flash down a version of firmware will brick your phone. You may be able to obtain the certs elsewhere.
Hey, can someone post some other flashing guide if you have any as the one posted earlier doesn't seem to work anymore, 'page cannot be displayed' it says.
Or you can also mail me some guide if you have one at
Many thanks if someone can help me 😊
Last time i tried flashing the phone myself (using phoenix) it stopped on 98% and my phone was bricked (dead). Ended up going to a service centre anyway and didn't have my phone for a month while it was getting fixed!!!
Anyway, i'm on Orange UK. Got my phone upgraded from v3.x to 4.x because tomtom 6 wasn't working properly on it coz of the bluetooth.
The staff at the Nokia service centre i went to were great because they allowed me to upgrade my orange mobile to v4 without charging me. The last NSC i went to wanted to charge me 20 bucks because orange haven't approved the v4 firmware yet.
Now my bluetooth works flawlessly, phone hasn't crashed once, battery seems to last longer (but that could just be my imagination). Things that i have now that i didn't have before are:
1. Antivirus
2. Update in device mgr
3. Search
4. Settings wizard (might be orange thing)
5. Adobe reader
Very happy with the phone now that it works peeerrrrfectly 😊
Hey!
I read above comment and found out that someone had the same problem, tomtom didn't work well with 3.x? My tomtom crashes very often and the screen freezes with firmware 3.x. Depends on which bluetooth GPS receiver i use, if I use the nokia's LD-3W it crashes immediately while trying to connect it and if I use Insmat's one it works for some minutes but crashes after that. Is this the problem you had with version 3.x? I'd like to know if the firmware flashing would help me.
You can send me a private message or mail me at , thanks!
Yep - bluetooth problems is a known issue that is resolved in v4.x. Apparantly doesn't affect everyone though, so this could be because of the bluetooth device you're trying to attach.
I believe it is related to the way the phone maintains the bluetooth connection. On version 3.x, tom tom used to work ok for a minute or so, and then crash.. and i would have to shut it down. v4 addresses this issue. Now it works perfectly... drove for 4 hours last weekend to plymouth from london and it worked the whole way and no battery bars lost!
Wow, sounds great 😊 I need to get my N80 updated in that case. I only need to find a few programs to update it or then just take my phone to some local phone centre and let them fix it for me and pay for it :P
guys,
now there is an online N80 firmware updater at the nokia europe site...
http://www.europe.nokia.com/A4176089?N80
Just follow the instructions and back up all the data before you start this procedure. Also make sure your phone is fully charged.
cheers!
Hi
I am just trying to update my N80 via my PC and Nokia update. It has said starting application for the last 5 minutes and does not seem to be doing anything. Is this usual or is it pretty quick?

I get the same problem as you on my Desktop PC but it works fine on my Laptop. Phoenix does exactly the same thing! Must be a Nokia s/w bug.
My Desktop PC is a Dell with Dual Core P4 CPU and Windows Media Center Edition. My Laptop is an Intel Pentium M (Single core) with XP Home.
I think either the Dual Core CPU or the Media Center XP Edition is the cause.
What's the spec of your PC?

I'm getting the following error when using Phoenix...
"Changing phone's operation mode failed.
Do you want to retry?
HRESULT 0x80043005 (-2147209211)
CMtcFN::SetCurrentMode, transition not allowed;MTCFN=0x80043005"
No idea whats causing it. I'm trying to flash an N80 using Pheonix 2006 v15 and Diego 3.07
Bugging me as nobody seems to know the answer (trawled google), and I installed all the apps exactly as specified in the instructions.
Hmm.... any ideas?

Put the sim card back in the phone, it is trying to change the operating mode of the phone and failing, flashing with the sim in will allow it to switch the mode

Put the phone into the General profile and leave the SIM CARD in the phone when flashing.

Happens on both RF Inactive, and Local modes (if that helps diagnosis?).
I'm 99% sure I tried this with SIM in and out of the phone with the same result... I'll try it again when I see my girlfriend on Weds. Can I just confirm I only need to select the firmware file and the language .v## files before flashing? I've seen some people use the drop down box at the top of the software update screen to select the region of their phone, and also get some additional apps. I didnt do this when I tried flashing - might this be another reason it's erroring?
Cheers for the help - really appreciate it.
Chris
