Go for it Brian we're all waiting with bated breath for you to successfully flash your phone. If it works it will inspire me to do mine.
Good luck.

can someone help me?

when i have installed pheonix it asks me to restart and according to reaper, once i have restarted it should start registering files automatically, but its not.

what do i do now?!

Hi, all, well ive managed to do it ok now, all that worrying payed of !!! Amso pleased with the new firmware , oh and now i dont have to do that 21 mile trip !!

Thankyou to everybody on here for all your help

Now guna search for that navicore sat nav everybodys on about for symbian series 3rd edition, well that will do untill tomtom release one for our phone N80.

Brian

Flashed my N80 on Orange today with the new firmware and it went great 😃

Done it so that i could install some satnav onto the phone. I was very worried as i managed to brick my first N80 due to dodgy USb connection back when updating the original firmware when the phone came out.

Had backed up everything on the phone but i had to set up my email and message centre number after flashing. All the new goodies are on it!

A big phew here 😃

Just flashed both my N80s using this latest firmware.

In phoenix under Code I selected EURO 1 - Stainless Steel, and it automatically picks the firmware files.

Unlike my last flash, this time it kept all my files... kept all my programs installed, and worked fine!

I thought i would loose everything!

Hmmmm.... just noticed a wierd bug.

On old firmware, in gallery mode, (horizontal), there are two rows of 4 photos, top and bottom, and 1 on the left.

Now it seems theres only 3 on top and bottom, and a blank space where there used to be pics. Is this to reduce memory usage?? or just a muck up!

very wierd. Now its gone back to 4 photos! (on one phone... the other is still on 3)

anyone else have that??

I successfully installed the firmware (used EURO 1 stainless steel) like everyone else here. All the extra applications installed and it seemed to run faster...but then the problems began to arise.

So far I've noticed that the voicedial no longer functions properly...no matter how clearly I try to speak someone's name, the software says "no match found".
The currency converter now says "Foreign" for all other options other than "Home".
The contacts settings are doubled and locked from changing.
The message storage location is also locked.

So my guess is this firmware is not a full release...it's a beta...and a crappy one at that.

This is not worth the upgrade. I'm now trying to back rev to the previous firmware.

I'm sorry, but no points of your message are right. All works fine in v4. Maybe you have to flash your phone again ......

Well, I'd have to say with the quirkiness of the flashing software combined with the mixed reports of successes and failures I'd say that this process is unreliable.

I followed the instructions to the letter and I had issues with phoenix not being able to communicate with the phone. It would see it then it wouldn't. I even shutdown all other programs.

This is like stepping on stones in a pond. Don't slip up or your all wet.

I wish I had a way to capture the errors for all to see.

hmmm i just checked my v4 n80 and i dont have ANY of the probs u mention, oh and erm, u cant downgrade FW, but u already know that!

:icon14: The upgrade went smoothly. I don't have any problem with my N80.
For me, it's working a lot faster now.
I flashed it before, with the earlier version, was ok too, but now the flash software keeps on working also after a pc reboot.:icon14:

Thanks a lot, wish you all good luck with it.

I got that briefly too in v 4. But now it works (in its normal crappy way).

how do you do voicedial anyways?

"The currency converter now says "Foreign" for all other options other than "Home" I got that same problem.

Looking thru myu phone since flashing, I've now lost adobe, the PTT function (not that it ever worked) and a couple of other bits and bobs (can't remember what, just know they're missing cos the screen is now uncluttered. Can anyone tell me what the differences are between EURO1 and EURO2? Did anyone actually try both before recommending EURO1, or is there a valid reason not for using EURO2? Ta, Dan.

Anyone had any luck downloading Diego? Using BB5 Reaper I find that server 1 and server 2 just get me 0KB file, and server 3 just goes to a forum (or am I missing something?).

Meanwhile, the Dogtoe link won't download at all (this is for version 3.06 not 3.07 -- hopefully that doesn't matter if I do get it to work).

1 Hold down the right shoulder key

2 Just rename any of the foreign options to whatever (Dollar, euro) and enter the exchange rate.

wesbar wrote:My phone will no longer sync after flashing to the new firmware. It comes up with system error onmy phone. I've tried it on 2 different PC's and get the same message, so it's definately the phone. Anyone got any ideas?

i just flashed mine, using the V08 as suggested in a flashing guide, as when i tried to use the phone code EURO silver .... it would not switch to online mode and the flashing would stop, and the sync has gone on mine as well, anybody got a solution for this? many thanks

I tried to get my N80 upgraded at an NSC yesterday in the UK. I called ahead and they said they had version 4. However, when I picked up my phone, they had only upgraded it to 3.0617 because they said I had the wrong "product code" They said I had 042, but that the firmware was only available for 035 (or something like that).

What did these guys mean by this? (I thought an N80 was an N80 except for some operators that do some customisation). I'm on Vodafone, but there is little VF specific except for the Live softkey (which can be changed anyway). Were they pulling my leg? Does this mean I cannot flash my mobile at home?

I was asked for my product code when I told them I had an Orange phone. The guy seemed to be looking through a table that listed the latest firmware version for each product code.

I'm guessing it's just a code that indicates what operator and possibly what batch your phone is from. Seems odd that Vodafone aren't on the latest firmware though.

I'd imagine you can still upgrade your phone yourself to whatever software you like -- it's just that the official Nokia service centres aren't supposed to.

Hi

Just about to do this myself (the temptation is too great, even if Nokia have their own Updating software which will probs update N80s about 5 seconds after I do this, he he), and was wondering if I could ask a few questions that I;m still a bit unclear about. May seem like a long post, but it should be quick to answer, honest.

1) It seems from what I;m reading, the easiest and best way is to use BBReaper, once you;ve uninstalled PC Suite, flashed, and then reinstalled PC suite, i assume this means you will have to go through the whole uninstall/install cycle everytime you wish to flash as the connectivity Drivers are uninstalled due to their incompatibility with PC Suite. Or is there a way to have both on your system?

2)a) It's of a catch 22 situation this, the older firmwares don;t allow PC Suite to do a full backup (it misses out the contacts), although you can Sync (although don;t get me started on how annoying that is when it whats everythign back with the wrong labels), but you can use the memory card (does this back up EVERTHING, apps, texts, themes, etc)? Should I just use the memory card back up to resotre my phone?

2)b) Okay, backed up everything via PC Suite and memory card. Flashed the phone, it would appear a hard format is the best thing to do next, just to make sure no old versions of files are lying about. I then restore from the memory card. Has this not just undone the help the hard format did? or will it just back up data files and apps? leaving old config files to be regenerated?

3) Wow wow wow, the biggest moan I have about the N80 is that the text message font is too small (although reqdable once you use a magnifiying glass infrom of the telescope with your glasses on), and I read a post that said it is now bold, can peopel confirm this, and is it still bold after you apply your favourite theme (Saku Theme 3 in my case)?

4) I;ve heard CCleaner mentioned, is this a registry/odd files left around after someone didn;t code the uninstall script properly type thing for Nokia?

Have to admit, I was shocked to see that so many thing I was blamign on ym compute, or having too may wireles/bluetooth devices around are actualyl the N80s fault, so very glad these have been fixed, plus it'll be nice to not have the embarrassment of showing peopel your snazzy phone, only for it to mess up on you on something as simple as bluetoothing them a photo.

Sorry about the bad typing, I;m full of cold (probs not the best time to attempt this really, he he).

Anyway, that's my questions over and done with, thank you for any help you can give.

In the device manager, it is not called FOTA, but there is a "check for updates" in the Options menu.
