Updated mine (EMEA version) to the latest firmware, and the media key now defaults to Slideshow, and I have the configure option. In addtion, the default bold font for the standby screen is gone, no kodak app.
new firmware 4/4/07!!
Hi all,
I have just bought a 2nd hand N80 yesterday. I have installed the newest Firmware
V 4.0707.0.7
But my browser seems to defer from the IE edition, What i get are web pages in words, which somehow makes me disappointed. Is there a step which I have left out or an additional software has to be installed?
using web or services?
i hopped onto an xp machine and updated my rm91 succesfully with nss ;] good to know i have multiple options for flashing, nss, phoenix, and jaf ;]
Hi there! I'm new to the forum.
Problem after updating firmware to 4.0707.07 is when I put back my midiSD card, some programs cannot install back completely.
They appear in the Application Manager as being a000212s.sis on the card. They won't install at all. How to get rid of them???
I have tried almost everything I could. Can not erase. Can not find them on the card with a browser like the excellent X-plore.
Anyone has an idea? Thanks.

Yea I had same problem with previous flashing, now I just save all my data I need to my computer, make sure I have the back up copy of the applications and then reformat the card, I prefer this way because it gets rid of alot of crap on my mem card, and I always keep copies of my applications so its not a problem to re-install...
Somebody else may have another solution though ..

Hey cbcharlie, good idea! that worked. Thanks for for it!
i've had a few issues with this firmware. Firstly, i feel that Truphone quality has gone down. Second, sometimes when i disconnect truphone manually and exit the internet tel application i can see my phone establishing a WiFi conncetion istself, i dont see why and how. I have set Truphone registeration to Manual and not Always online.
Third, whenver i reboot my phone (which i have to do to stop it from connecting to WiFi again and again) i see the installation bar going on and on.
@cbcharlie: mean i tried using Data storage mode but the phone wont go into offline mode for it because apparently it says some apps still remain on.
Very disappointed with these problems.
most likely you cant get into mass storage mode because you have apps that are always running, installed on memory card, i always install things that run in backround/themes onto phones memory to avoid this problem.
im also having some voip problems, doesnt seem to connect as easily anymore, trying to figure out if theres something i can do to help this problem.
Has anyone found a change log to this FW from a previous one?
Thank you in advance,
P.

yes, you can go to mass storage mode, but sometimes you must wait ...
after that you go in mass storage mode and find "problem" .sis files and
delete them, than install it again !
is it worth the risk bricking the phone and reinstalling the apps?
with my current n80ie firmware, this annoying " memory full close some applications and try again" is really frustrating, i don't get this with my previous n80 regular firmware
i get it on this new firmware its not been fixed just hidden better!!
truphone is now so crap!!
web is so slow!!
there is more i just cant remember at the mo
IM NOT GOING INTO THIS APPS CHAT BUT I CAN SAY FOOK ME TAKE THE LONGEST ROAD POSSIBLE 😉
not so much differences with new firmware, except the browsing experience is much better now. It is faster and I did not experience any 'memory full' until now. :icon14:

If you are storing your SMS messages in the memory card, you cannot enter mass storage mode, this is a known problem. Also it seems that you didn't format your memory card completely -- because if the phone is trying to install applications; then these need to be re-installed from the computer and removed from the memory card.
As for your WiFi connecting again and again -- see what active connections you have open, and make sure WiFi scanning is off.
truphone is now so crap!!
This is not a fault of the firmware. How can you say the firmware is causing a problem in a service that isn't controlled by the phone, and that is ... by the admissions of the developers, in beta? Also the N80ie is not on the "officially supported" phone list, only the E-series phones are. So I would say you need to quit blaming this on the firmware.
web is so slow!!
Get a faster connection? Or perhaps clear your cache.
You seem to be just ranting without actually saying something that others can use to help you. Please, calm down and then post a problem -- maybe someone has a solution? 😊
well...
my truphone is also connecting to wifi when it's not supposed to...
and i also had the problem with the "install bar" when you boot your phone... i erased some garbage sis files that were on my memory card, now i don't have that issue...
c ya

i have tried changing message memory to phone memory and the problem still occurs.
i didn't format the memory card. i didnt need to, i just made a backup off it and didnt need to format it and neither did the upgrade do it.
i do not have any wireless connections active and wireless scanning is also off.
Also, about Truphone being crap. It isnt the service but the phone because i use Gizmo and Challengermobile and on both of them the quality has declined so infact it is a thing controlled by the phone.
I know people working in Truphone and they do 'officially' support the N80ie.
I have a 24mbps down and 5mbps up connectin so i dont think its my speed.
I have messages stored to phone memory and have the same problem. However , if I put the phone in offline mode manually before selecting Mass storage mode it does work.

I have not noticed any degrade in quality on Gizmo (on N80) or Truphone (on E61). The only thing I have noticed -- and it used to do this previously; is that it takes a long time during the 'registering to the service' phase.

well we aren't talking about the E61 here now are we. and thats where your Truphone is working fine.
I upgraded to this firmware last night and i'm having a few web browser problems. Some pages crash the browser, and close it, bringing me back to the front screen. One in particular is torrentz.com.
I used to have problems in that when I downloaded files with the web browser it would crash, and do the same thing, but now with this latest firmware it crashes before I even get chance to download a file.
I am connecting through my home wireless network, and using the Web application, not the Services one.
Is there any chance anyone here could try out the above page and see if it crashes theirs. Just do a search for an artist etc, and general use the site, see if it crashes on you.
One thing I am liking about the new firmware is the time it now takes to turn the screen off, gotta be better on battery life!! 😊
Not too much else that I have tested really.
No problems on main N80IE with latest FW. Everythig I test untill now works without problems

Its not just you ...I have a few pages crashing and returning to the front page also ...different pages to you..which I never experienced before ...so I think a bug there is present

SpeTz wrote:Did nokia release a statement of what they fixed with this firmware?

- multimedia key stop working after a while. Reboot needed!
- no automatic switchover to radio if radio is active while alarm is sounded and canceled or snoozed
- phone enter instantly to power save mode (if enabled) after half a minute or so.
KR
phone only enter instantly to power save mode (if enabled) after half a minute or so if you lock the keypad.
I liked that change.
If you don't lock the keypad, phone turns light off, show only the clock, and after a few minutes, it enters on power save mode.
Mine is working that way...
