fastxt uses about 50 bytes per hour to stay connected to services
Is it acceptable to go on about 3rd party products here?
This is dependant on your network availability. It can be as low as 10 bytes per day if your GPRS is good
SMS is set to be a thing of the past.
Thats a very bold statement! The networks still send billions of SMS. SMS will always be around as its easy, and most mobile users can't handle anything more than easy. Not all mobile users are geeky types who want their phones to do everything as you find on here or other mobile forums.
i know. People in general are not very good with technology, in context of this thread most of the public dont even know what IM is. Makes my life difficult.
Yes a bold statement but one we hope that will come true. Most operators and handset manufacturers know this is coming though.
If you manage to get your friends and family onto Fastxt it's a brilliant service.
If it were released on the Sharp GX-10 i'd be in heaven, i'd get three annual subscriptions to cover my girlfriend, myself and my best mate. They both use GX-10's. The T720 software sounds promising as I should be getting one of this next tweek.
Ok, Im VERY interested in the sound of this.... and im not a technophobe, just I dont understand this fastxt... Here a few questions [A few friends also asked these, were quite interested]
1. U can use the fastxt SMS's to send normal sms's to any phone [they dont need the fastxt software?]
2. Is there some way we can view the software to judge if we like it [ease of use, interface, memory it takes up etc...]
3. do you get 500 free SMS's a month as advertised? or is it 100 first month or what? the web site makes this awfully hard to understand
4. How many KB's does the MSN messanger part use on GPRS?
I've sended around 650 sms in december.. hmm. Hello phonebill 😛
Zipper
Yes the application integrates with normal sms. You can send messages to non fastxt users. Our server will determine if your recipient is fastxt or not and either send them fastxt message or normal sms.
If you sign up you get the 1st month free, can cancel at anytime so effectively there is a 30 day trial period.
We are giving a limited amount of users free sms until April. Otherwise you get 500 free sms over a period of 5 months. 100 per month.
If you call customer services after signup and ask for all messages to be bundled into 1 month i am sure we can oblige. Its not official but if you ask nicely

Those phones will be available shortly but Java is not as good as Symbian and user experience may vary due to applet qualities.

Need i say more, sign up now, save money.
Zipper,

Yes.
2. Is there some way we can view the software to judge if we like it [ease of use, interface, memory it takes up etc...
The one month free trial should be ample time to try it? This comes with the 5.99 package, or you could take the 8.99 PAYG option.
3. do you get 500 free SMS's a month as advertised? or is it 100 first month or what? the web site makes this awfully hard to understand
100 per month for the first 5 months, 6p each thereafter.
4. How many KB's does the MSN messanger part use on GPRS?
Around 1k per 1000 characters, around 50 bytes per hour to stay connected.

The answers were taken from Chris' posts in this thread.
EDIT: He's answered now anyway 😃
MSN messenger messages are very small. Your 400 character limit on MSN will only use 400bytes
While you're here Chris, i've on FINAL question for you. I promise it's the last one!
Although I understand the offer itself won't run forever; the unlimited SMS for new subscribers (subject to fair use), is this for a limited time or for the duration of your contract?
Unlimited sms will be available to new users between now and April. Subject to reasonable use. If you go around sending 2 million messages each week me may have to limit this.
Let me clarify my last point. If you sign up now you will get free sms until April. Those who sign up in March will only get free sms until April
Got it, thanks. 😃
How mich did Chris pay for AAS to get an advertisement spot here in this discussion thread 😉
Everybody is free to post any information.....as long it has to do with Symbian and the phones! 😉

Including promoting their own business? Cool! I have to remember that 😉
YES! What do you think Psiloc, Ximplify and ALL other companies do? I dont understand why you are so suprised!
Hey, just think how much info we've got about FastTx today by Chris being here. Not only that, he was polite enough to if it was okay first!
Developers likecoming here - they feel safe, they know that they are not going to get hit by warez issues (mods - Constant Vigilance!), and they can get a good discussion with facts and reasoned debates.
Long may it continue.
So is there no way i can download soem sorta of software only trial? without the hastle of signing up? I dont want to pay out 9 to see if i like it, the point of testing it out is thus eliminated.
Also your site will need updating as regard s the 'free 500 texts' as it is false advertisment, You may find a legal case on your hands, by some annoyed user, or even myself. that is all.
Zipper
You can try the service for 30 days before we start billing you. As mentioned aerlier in the thread we have a non commitment policy and if you wish to cancel after 1 month we wont charge you for the remaining 11 months.
As far as free texts are concerned, we give away 500 free texts. Where is the false advertising here? Full terms and conditions are available before you give away your credit card number, just like any other site. If you dont agree with the terms dont buy it. Simple.
Where does all this talk of law suits come from?
Website states '500 free text messages' In actual fact you recieve 100 at first then gradually recieve more if you stay with, proper wording should be along the lines of 'upto 500 free'. Law is a trade I work closly with. just thought i would point it out to you, your wording is a breach of advertisment regulations. i have no problem with it, but others may.
Not going to go into this one with you Zipper. The site has been checked out legally by several people and we are happy with what we are saying.
Thanks for your input though
Now i can see this much with opera browser:

How does fastext differ from IM+ (http://www.shapeservices.de/eng/im/index.php) if you simply look at the instant messaging side of Fastext?
We are giving a limited amount of users free sms until April. Otherwise you get 500 free sms over a period of 5 months. 100 per month.
I've signed up to the monthly package of 5.99 a month to get the free unlimited SMS until April, but my account has been limited to 500 (or so it would appear from the details specified on the "members" page of website).
How do I get the free sms Chris?
The application has also downloaded the wrong GPRS settings (IE: For the wrong network, but I sorted that out myself).
The software very pretty good, as is the manual but it:
A) Doesn't show up under the Uninstall list.
B) Has a huge delay between the sending and delivery of sms messages to mobiles, half of mine havent been delivered at all.
