I have been crawling the net looking for an app that will alert me to speed cameras on my n95 using the internal GPS
Does anyone know if such an app exists..I was hoping to be able to add the cameras as POI to Route66 but it doesnt look as the mobile version supports this....
No Doubt TomTom will in its new version but that is still a while away as far as I have read.....
Better idea: on the dashboard of your car you will see a prominent meter. Types vary, but it will be graduated from 0 up to 100 or so. Whilst driving, you will encounter prominent circular signs displaying a number. The idea - and this is what many people appear to find tricky - is to ensure the number on the dial doesn't exceed the number on the most recent sign you passed.

That's brilliant! You should patent it!
Where can I buy one of these meters? Money's no object - send me one right away!
😊
The good news is that if you have a car, you already have the required meter and do not have to pay any more.
Neil's method is good for two reasons
1) It's 100% reliable and
2) Whilst knowing the location of speed cameras may assist in some ways I've found it's of no help at all when minimising the risk of crashing into other vehicles or pedestrians.
I only wanted a serious answer....
Its like saying why do you need POI on maps....you should do your research before you go anywhere......
Get off your high horse and give the guy advice or STFU. This is a forum about the N95, not a moral debate.
winker, Route66 supports the importing of 'points of interest' (POI) and there are several places online you can get an up to date list of current speed cameras in the correct format for it.
Hey neilhoskins
Thanks for the reply!!! Thought I was in for battling the jokers all day long...
Are you saying Route66 for Symbian S60v3
I have looked all over and I can only find it talking about adding custom POI to satnav systems and route66 for PDA etc etc..
a link would be gr8 if you have one...
Agreed.
A link would be awesome. 😊
Idiots. The guy wanted advice not a f*cking lecture from you guys.
Have a look over at www.pocketgpsworld.com and check whether they supply the camera database for mobile phone GPS applications.
I can definitely recommend pocketgpsworld for speed cameras. I use them for Tomtom on my N95.

Dunno if I'm gonna help you anymore if you get my name wrong :frown:
lol
DOh Sorry mate.....
I dunno what happened there,,,,bloody wheel mice!!
I have looked at pocketgpsworld before....I will look again!!! 😮
On PocketGpsWorld it states
one person has got there system working on a Windows Mobile Based Smartphone but nothing about symbian so that rules out N95 until someone tells me other wise....
I used the pocketgpsworld speedcam db on my old n73 with TT6 no problem.
Haven't tried yet on my n95 tho. Would imagine it'll work fine.
so where would you put the speed camera database in route 66,i mean which folder.....................................if it works lol.
Route66 for Symbain is rubbish, i don't know what all the fuss is about.
For the record, it DOES NOT supprt custom user installled POI's. So no speed camera warnings.
If you want this, you need to get TomTom or Copilot. There are a couple of others, but they are not worth even looking at IMO.

R66 is not rubbish (but I admit it's not as good as TomTom).
Howerver the 'fuss' as you put it is that R66 works with the N95 Internal GPS Receiver and Tom Tom doesn't.
I will use R66 until TomTom get there fingers our of their a** and release a patch.
I'd rather use Nokia's inbuilt software then Route66. Really didn't like it.
I wish TomTom worked with the internal GPS though, that would rock.

Really? You like being routed an extra junction of the motorway, round a roundabout and then back again do you? Seriously this has happened to me, the routing on Maps is terrible. Its a shame cos otherwise its a great app.
I managed to import speed camera locations to MAPS using a piece of software that converted TomTom format POI's into ones compatible with MAPS........
Can't remember the name of the software unfortunately, do a search and it should pop up mind.

I second that, route66's routing is the worst by far from any satnav Ive ever used.
Its a real pity, as its bundled with the 6110's as the satnav software!
Hmm, you are actually disagreeing with me there (I was talking about Nokia Maps' routing)
Ach, teach me to post when Im surviving on kick.
Yes, sorry Im disagreeing with you! For me, route66 has proven itself too unreliable to use as satnav.
My main aim is to get tomtom on my phone, or at least something as good (looking into navigon, they will support my phone and the N95 in august/september).
I will also want viewranger on there, but that involves saving the pennies for a while yet!
Dont spose anyone knows how much space the viewranger files of the whole UK take up?
Back on topic, I might look and see if I can add POI (and therefore speed cameras) to my route66. Just for testing purposes, as its useless at actually navigating.
If I do, I'll post back here, although Im not sure if thats going to be useful to you lot as Im told the route66 edition packaged with the 6110's are slightly different to anything else.
To be honest I've not really used Route 66 much. I have found TomTom to be faultless but of course I have to use my external GPS with that. Fortunately I have a PC which I built into my car that does satnav (based on Destinator) and that does a very good job.
TomTom is the definitive navigator though, if only they'd release an internal-GPS patch for us N95-ers.

Did you actually buy R66 or self-sign a pirated copy?
You get what you pay for in this life.

NO, the fuss is due to the fact that it available cracked for free. Don't pretend anything else. If the only way to get it was to pay, then no one would bother and get copilot.
I have used all three and Roue66 is very bellow average, all the standard features expected of satisfactory GPS software is missing.

Don't be such an ass. I paid for Route66 but then found out the latest version doesn't support the internal GPS so I got a refund. It seems that the older version which does support it is down to the side effect of a bug which was fixed in the newer versions.
Therefore, the reason people use the 'pirate' version is because it works with the internal GPS but is not available to buy anyway!
Stop making assumptions about people and get off your high horse
Found a way of doing this but it is far from simple....
U need POIXPRESS - google it
and the latest pocketgps safety cameras
Then using POIXPRESS import them into nokia maps.....
but I dont really like maps, it wants a data connection to download the maps and doesnt do routing unless u pay for it....
COME ON TOMTOM GET YOUR SOFTWARE RELEASED!!!!
