It's possible to get TomTom to work with the N95's GPS now, but it takes some serious trickery.
Speed Cameras n95 gps
I think it's a fake, check this out... http://www.n95users.com/forum/gps/3172-tomtom-6-seems-work-nokia-n95-internal-gps-receiver.html

Really?
Would you be so kind to tell us where you found this out please?
winker wrote:Found a way of doing this but it is far from simple....U need POIXPRESS - google it
and the latest pocketgps safety cameras
Then using POIXPRESS import them into nokia maps.....
but I dont really like maps, it wants a data connection to download the maps and doesnt do routing unless u pay for it....
COME ON TOMTOM GET YOUR SOFTWARE RELEASED!!!!
Hey Winker, could you be so kind and make more intensive "manual" what did you do with this POIexpress.
Did you export ov2 format POIs to kml-format ? Am I right that the Nokia MAPS uses kml format ? Where should I store the formated POIs to let it be readable ny NOKIA MAPS ? Thanks in advance.
The proccess I went through...
download POIEXPRESS
Then download the pocketgpsworld files, I got mine from a source I can not say as it was not the official site...
The file I downloaded contains OV2 Files...
I then copied these to my memory card - other - poi
Then across to the phone....fire up the POIexpress app and then choose options import and it will list all the OV2 files....
Hope this helps...

You get what you pay for in this life.
No, I actually have a 6110 navigator, which comes bundled with route66. Im posting in here because the N95 has the same (I think) GPS chipset as the 6110 and also the same op system.
I also have a legal copy of tomtom (how rare is that), so whatever I post about route66 is entirely relevant.
On topic, I still havent got round to checking for adding the POI yet.

OK well I apologise for the Pirated Copy remark, but the same holds true, there's loads of happy R66 users with the N95, with perfect GPS reception and faultless routing. I don't know what's wrong in your case but there must be something.
I thought that, but Ive triple checked all settings and reinstalled the maps, although the maps really dont seem to be an issue as they are usually right.
The lock on is good (bloody good actually, today trialling it without AGPS on and its great), follows it fine, so I see no reason apart from route 66 being crap to fail.
I must mention I do use satnav a lot, so its possible Im just having more to compare it too.
Ah well, Im playing the waiting game now. When a decent satnav program is supported (garmin/tomtom) its going to be a dream for me. No more lugging about a PDA + mount.

How's that done then??
torsen wrote:How's that done then??
You need to install Route66 or Copilot. Then you need to use a developers tool to edit the N95's 'registry' (or equivalent). You will be able to see what port the GPS is using. Then you install the TomTom and assign the port. You can remove R66 etc then.
Like i have said, i have not been able to do it, it's over my head and most peoples here too. But it has been done.
autopilot wrote: it's over my head
LOL yeah mine too......
Yeah, everyone seems to think the vid was fake. Mainly just through the frustration of not being able to do it, or whatever reason. I must admit i thought it was a bit of a strange geeky joke at first, but it's posible.
Have you a link to any instructions?
And are you sure tomtom lets you input what port on symbian?
Any info on this would be appriciated, as Im sure you know by now I want tomtom on my 6110 navigator, and as I already have route66 this would be a good thing to try.
If it did work, Id post instructions on how to do it.
And no, Im not doing anything dodgy in my eyes. I have valid licences of tomtom and route66, and its not hacking tomtom software in any way.
Just looking for a developers tool now. And possibly a little help understanding what to do with it..!
Watch this space, as I shall do a guide if I find out how to do it. Hopefully it should be the same for my phone as the N95.

The above URL talks about using Python to read the N95 Internal GPS location data. I don't know if it helps you or not - a bit above my head also!

How do you know this has been done? I have seached the net and have not found anything. Can you please provide a link? THanks
Well, Ive had a look, and its over my head too, which is what I expected tbh. However, Ive gone onto forum nokia and asked, there are some seriously smart ones on there, Im just hoping they are helpful.
I will still try the developer thing, but sadly I cant find one for download anywhere (forum nokia has one, but the download wont work). Hopefully I might know what the hell to do with it when I get one!
My personal opinion is that getting the gps port and modifying the registry is just heresay.
If it was that *simple* someone would have written a patch for it by now. The port the internal gps chip uses, I assune, must be the same across all n95s, so a patch to hack the registry for tomtom would be universal, and relatively straightforward to code I'm sure.....
And, as has already been mentioned - it'd be all over the net by now....
Thats my thinking too, but no harm in trying 😊
Im desperate to get rid of my PDA, and recently, for no reason, the 6110 has been out performing what everyone else says about them (i.e. GPS lock is a bit s**t).
Even with AGPS turned off, I can get a lock in under a minute, in the back of my mates car while moving! I seem to be the only one with a 6110 that can do this :S
The claims of a working patch for TomTom were made by www.gpsmidlands.co.uk. They told me they are developers and official TomTom partners.
Some people say they are lying. But why would a company thats been around for ages and develops mobile and GPS software for the likes of Microsoft lie about this?
Just because it has not been done does not mean it can't be done at all. You just need the right experts and anything can be done.
Also don't forget that TomTom is the most popular sat nav software in this part of the world, but in the US & Asia they are far from it.
So it might be true, it might be bollocks. But there is no real reason to dismiss it instantly.
If its true, Id be willing to pay for it. Not much mind.
Before people shout at me, I beleive in paying for work done and software.
Besides, with working tomtom on my phone it would increase the value of it (to me at least) tenfold.
I have emailed them, but no reply yet.
If it really is due out Wednesday, then I look forward to it.
I am however, unsure if I have to upgrade my maps.
Of course, I have a 6110 navigator, which might be different to get working to a N95.

Wearing my I.T. hat, it's not usually as easy as changing a port. The GPS Chip communicates with APPs using what's called an API (Application Program Interface) and this usually requires a number of predefined parameters to be passed to the O/S (API Handler) and then the API returns the data from the GPS Chip to the requesting Application. Even this is a fairly simplistic explanation of what's involved.
A simple change of port from x to y in the registry is unlikely (but not impossible) to achive what we all want. However, if the port change was enough, it would also DISABLE whatever function it had replaced - e.g. Bluethooth GPS Receiver Support.
We should know by Thursday as gpsmidlands have told me this morning their patch should be available from their website (£29.99) by late Wednesday afternoon - but only to officially licensed owners of TomTom6.
Fingers crossed for you Dez - assuming you're gonna order this.
I'll be very interested to see how you get on.
Hmm.
Are you sure its tomtom 6?
I thought tomtom for symbian was tomtom 5 mobile.
On another note, I have tomtom 5 on my PDA. Im not sure how the licencing works, so will have to see if they let me transfer it to my mobile.
Transfers are allowed yes, but Im not sure if its between versions.
There is a tt6 mobile for symbian. It's 6.02 (I think).
Nope, or at least if it is theres nothing on the site about it.
Under tt6, theres no nokia devices listed at all, but in tt mobile 5, theres the usual ones (N80 etc).
It's tt mobile 6.01.
I had it working on my N73.
:con? Thats bloody odd, they dont have it on the website.
Or perhaps they are just being crap as usual, and not giving the proper compatibility list.
Scratch that, I cant even find tt6 mobile on the webby!
Tomtom. Wonderful satnav software.
Monkeys that support it.
If I google "tomtom mobile 6.01" I get lots of results.
Whether they're all for legit sites I couldn't say.....
I am 99% certain there exists a legit TT6 for mobile.
Oh I beleive you, its just tomtom's site and support which makes it bloody annoying to see what/if I have to upgrade to.

TT6 works with S60 v3
TT5 works with S60 v2
According to the TT website the N95 isn't listed, But I can confirm that TT6.02 works with the N95, but you have to use an external GPS.
