The N95 classic hits v20 firmware!!

After upgrading to the latest firmware 20.0.015 the cable usb connection doesnt work. Bluetooth works just find...

Any ideas, suggestions, help.

I've, as promised, checked out whether CorePlayer (current, tested version: b2) delivers better results with the new ROM version than with the older.

The results are as follows (running a 640*480 test video - QVGA, transcoded videos, of course, play back w/o problems but who would want to waste time on transcoding videos if they're in full PAL / NTSC MPEG-4 Part 2 (DivX etc.) or Part 10 (H.264 etc.) format? 😉 ):

12 (Old) ROM version:
High quality: 66%
Medium quality: 105% (both with default params)

20 (new) ROM version:
High quality: 70.8% (that is, still unplayable, but slightly better)
Medium quality: 116% (both with default params)

Unfortunately, with A2DP enabled, not even medium quality suffices for flawless playback w/o frame drops; then, the benchmark results in at 90% (with the new ROM).

That is, third-party apps will also show some generic speedup.

Some other multimedia-related remarks:
- unfortunately, there is still no support for WMA streaming. Nokia, this is VERY important, DO IMPLEMENT THIS, it can't be that hard!!!!!!!!!!
- AVRCP (more precisely, resuming from paused state) is still pretty much unreliable with some headphone models (namely, the Plantronics Pulsar ones). Other (most) headphone models work just great.

I'm running a rom with the amazing language of swedish in it, might be that the rom that is available is not the one I should use.

Or, I'm doing anything wrong?

Dunno... if it reports the upgrade's not being available, then, yes, it's the location (that is, the product code). Consider de-branding it and switching to EURO-1.

i got a message to remove battery and retry but now its stuck at the nokia screen...i think its dead...plz help me

Pretty nice update indeed.

But, still I have to disable power saver mode on WLAN settings. Otherwise connection is dropped. 😮

After update my n95 to v20, i get some new icons in the main menu.
After updating i put my back up that i made on my phone.
Now if got the same icons as before updating the new firmware.

Just do a hard reset and refrain from restoring backups over ROM upgrades.

Does the backup contain anything important not present any more? if it does, copy / sync them to your desktop PC first, before hard resetting.

Can someone verify if the call log bug is still in this firmware? The one where the call log shows EVERY call as a MOBILE icon?

Menneisyys wrote:Strange - on my EURO-1 (debranded) device, I've encountered no such cases. With Camera running (in passive mode - that is, showing the prev shot), I had 7M free (with an active A2DP + Music Player streaming flawlessly running in the background + CpuMon + Web + OpMini 4 + File Mgr + Podcasting + Wless Keyb). When it's actively taking a picture, the RAM usage increases by about 4M.

it's actually pretty easy to repeat the problem I have: try this and I'm sure we'll get the same result.

Restart mobile: 30.6M (fantastic 😎 )
Using the multimedia menu open music player and play something.
Using the multimedia menu open Nokia S60 browser. So far, the memory has gone down to 26.5 (not bad)
Open two tabs and go to 2 "heavy" webpages (www.ft.com and www.yahoo.co.uk usually do the trick), then open the camera and I'm sure the browser and possibly the music player as well will close 😮

It's possible to go directly to V20.

But it's NOT possible to watch youtube-videos using the latest firmware.

Dear Steve,

I want to install the new release but the Software Updater told me that
I have the latest Version *13.

Where's the problem.

Best wishes

Gerald

Unlucky..... that bug is still there :icon13:

slitchfield wrote:Nope, YouTube playing is as before. But watch this space - this time next week you'll have seen S60 smartphones able to access any clip on YouTube... You mark my words 8-) [not allowed to say more]

One can play any video from youtube (not the mobile youtube) via m.vtap.com (real player prefferences should be set for Wi-Fi or 3G, no proxy) EDGE streaming in the USA is choppy. I have beed doing it on my E90 for a month already...😉

Wow. They improve countless things. But because of this issue they are a joke. Guess they should not have bothered. Suggest you compare them with some of the other manufacturers. Whilest it is frustrating, I've seen worse...

Zuber

They ignore a bug that's been around since the first firmware and they remove a GPS feature they sold the phone with.

Yes, they are a joke. They bait and switch their customers.

It's horrible... lightsaber v1.3 doesn't work with this firmware!

Oh do shut up. All you do is bloody moan.

"oooh noes, i don't have the right icon next to calls"
"oooh noes, i can't start tracking in maps"
"oooh noes, i got a great phone that does loads of stuff but i must concentrate on what it doesn't do cos I'm never bleedin satisfied"

Go and buy and iphone or something...

*sigh*

I know, I can't believe I'm complaining about spending $750 on a phone that Nokia decided to cripple with a firmware update! What an asshole I am!

No, you sir are the asshole that thinks it's OK for Nokia to do something like this. Perhaps if they removed a feature that you bought the phone for you might bitch so then someone else could make fun of you.

And the iPhone is the biggest piece of shit in the world ^^

Unregistered wrote:It's horrible... lightsaber v1.3 doesn't work with this firmware!

You sir, just made my day!

Anybody managed to install the yahoo go 2.0 app? I get a "Unable to install!" error.

Please PLEASE don't let this degenerate into a slanging match between individuals.

There are some of us who are keenly watching developments and useful comments from the early adopters - we don't want to wade through a childish bickering contest.

Thank you.

(and many thanks to everyone who has posted useful experiences so far).

If Nokia had unlimited resources and money I would agree with you that Nokia would be a joke. But Nokia is not a non-profit company and they have to focus on what most of the people might want. I know it might be frustrating for you but you can always request what you want in the wishlist:
http://www.s60.com/business/productinfo/wishlist/displayWishList.do

If more people agree that what you are requesting must be on future mobile phones, I'm sure Nokia will implement it.

As far as I can see, no other vendors are doing as much as Nokia 😊

All you seem to get on N95 firmware boards is "they removed the start tracking feature". Who cares? It was never advertised as having free navigation, only for pay.

I have paid and have found it very good for the money.

Also, updated on an unbranded UK T-Mobile phone (using Euro-1: 0536062)
No problems yet (touch wood!)

Well, one: On the task list (hold menu key) there is a little white bar at the bottom where the theme doesn't seem to fit quite right - I think that can safely be ignored with all the improvements!

Actually that's not true. They have always advertised that basic navigation is free, and voice and re-routing features were pay. You can hear this on any Nokia N95 review on youtube. It's even in the N95-1 manual.
