iplayer download not working

I have recently upgraded to v20.0.012 and have installed iplayer.
When i run it I can not see the download button.

Anyone got any ideas?

My guess is that the BBC has removed the option for some reason. Certainly the 5800 is not shown as being able to download or sideload programmes here (http://iplayerhelp.external.bbc.co.uk/help/about_iplayer/mobile_phone - no indication if that page has changed recently to reflect changes to 5800 support though)

Has anyone got access to any of the other phones that were able to download iplayer programs (N95/96) to see if they can still download ?

Has anyone got any more detail about this issue? I seriously miss my iplayer downloads. Was the best thing about the phone in my view.

On a recent thread on the AAS front page about firmware v20 finally being available for early UK red phones (massive hurrah!), Steve Litchfield said

This kind've implies to me that he does actually know the reason. Maybe you could enlighten us all Steve? 😉

My guess is, maybe some crafty so-and-so cracked the DRM or something...

Here's hoping for an explanation. Actually, more to the point, here's hoping for the BBC to reinstate the feature.

But iPlayers downloads on Windows were cracked before the service even started so why would that justify pulling it from the 5800 ?

Can the N96 still download programs ?

Both mine and my OH's stopped working to. However yesterday they started again but only by going direct to the I player website!!

The theory, discussed by Steve and Rafe on a recent podcast, is that numpties can't figure out where their downloads have been put, and the BBC got pissed off with people contacting them and asking where they are. It would seem trivial to me for the BBC to put a note saying, "Now go to Gallery/Video Centre/Other to view your download", or for Nokia to put in other workarounds by firmware updates but apparently not.

As a FP1 device owner myself (N95) I can't even stream now, because the BBC are worried that numpties could run up huge bills due to FP1's fucking useless access point handling. But I really don't know why that excludes me from downloads because the device would then surely prompt the user for an access point.

IMO both the BBC and Nokia have disappointed lots of people very badly, and the half dozen or so iPhone owners in the UK get the best experience. For the first time since the sodding thing came out, if somebody in UK asked me which media-playing phone to get, I might just advise them to consider the iPhone. In terms of media playing, its only downside seems to be lack of stereo bluetooth, but I understand that has been addressed for the next version.

the above cannot be realistic - the BBC would not pull downloads just because a few people contacted them.. if they did... And anyway, it states quite clearly where the download is when the download finishes - you get like an infobox displaying.

So whatever the reason is, the BBC are stupid fools for doing this, especially if the service is available for the iPhone.

Do the BBC realise that the iPlayer is now practically a useless app on the 5800?? You can't stream programmes using your mobile network data connection, and you can't download programmes either... so WTF is the point?? When I am out and about, I never have access to any free wifi anyway.

The inability to download devlaues the point of iplayer for mobile phones - for me, it is currently totally useless

agreed - minus downloads its just taking up bytes. If you are on wifi - you'll have access to a computer. and even if you have openzone access - thats useless on the move. plus takes abotu 10 minutes to log on!!

iPhone users are slightly better off with the automated cloud access.

but without wifi downloads - iPlayer is no use.

i used it tons on my N96 - about the only good thing about that phone.

iPhone streams have no DRM, the nokia ones do, so no issues there
