Hi all,
I debranded my t-mobile v10 n97 and upon rebooting all it did was cycle on and off with a white screen.
Now after following guides i was told to use jaf or phoenix to re-flash it.
I have spent hours trying to do this.
This info is wrong, all i had to do was hard format it. now that was easier said than done.
After a while searching through forums, i found the solution.
Open the phone to reveal qwerty keyboard and hold left shift, spacebar and backspace, then press and hold power button. this will bring up the white screen and then NOKIA let go of the buttons and wait for it to reboot, this has solved my problem!
Hello all
Thanks for saving my butt! My phone is up and running again.
The only reason I upgraded the firmware was to see if it sorted out my signal strength issues, which it hasnt.
I've gotten hold of Nokia, and they want me to bring the phone in. My issue is this. Previously the phone was a T-Mobile UK branded N97 with FW v10. It is now a Euro QW1 FW v11. It obviously has a different product code to that shown under the battery, so I want to change it back.
Can I use the previous methods to roll back the firmware to v10 and set the product code back to the original?
Or will Nokia go ahead and repair the phone anyway, as it was giving trouble before the upgrade anyway?.
Hi Guys,
I noticed a few of you are on T-Mobile UK. Can I just ask do you use the Euro code or the UK code? I can't decide between the RM-505_EMEA_EURO_QW1 Black (0570817) code or the N97 UK CV B (0585162) code? My current code is 0587665.
Also I'm a bit nervous so what is the best method to for a total NOOB like me to use for those who went from similar route as above? Sorry for sounding like a whiner but I love this phone and obviously my bollocks are being tested 😃
Cheers,
Taz

I'm on T-Mobile UK and went to euro code (0570817) with no problems. I used the JAF method as detailed here
http://n97debranding.blogspot.com/
The only problem I encountered was that my firmware update files (the ones downloaded using navifirm) weren't being found automatically by JAF even though I'd updated the .ini files as stated in the tutorial.
In this case you have 2 options, input them manually into JAF (which I found a bit buggy and had to manually paste the file path in) or move the products folder from nokia\phoenix into the root of the c: drive. For some reason for me JAF was looking in the root of c: for the files and not in nokia\phoenix\products as stated in the tutorial.
After that it was plain sailing. As stated by others the hardest bit is trying to plug the phone in and turn it on at just the right time for JAF to work its magic. I kept getting "phone not found" errors or "phone responded but not in flash mode"
Just keep trying and you'll get it eventually.
Accuweather and Facebook widgets were missing after the upgrade, I downloaded accuweather from the ovi store, I'd imagine the facebook one is there too, can't say for sure as I don't do wastebook myself.
Good Luck
That's interesting because I didnt loose my Failbook widget and used the "Use Ini" option (also t-mobile)
I wonder if something goes astray if you port the files in manually. Not that I rearlly care the Facebook widget is slow and is about as much use as a chocolate fireguard. I scrapped it and went back to the mobile site.
As my title says and also like jamesworts (http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum/showpost.php?p=430082&postcount=151) says its as simple as upgrading the firmware and then when is phone is OFF:
1. Open the n97 up.
2. Hold the Left Shift + Space Bar + Backspace down.
3. While holding the buttons down turn on the power and continue to hold them down till the Nokia screen comes up.
4. Thats it! Phone will start like normal after that!
Fantastic!
NOTE THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO NEED FOR PHOENIX, FLASHING, ETC!
Oh my life, you're having a laugh!! I bought my phone brand new off someone lastnite, and was up til 3am unbricking it after i did a voda v11 > nemesis > nsu v12 and bricking, and i then read that all it needed was a hard reset???!!!
(i must admit i did try it at the time, but having owned a 5800 i held red+green+camera!) 😊
COULDNT FIND PHONE... until i removed the sim card, then worked instantly. Really thought i lost an amazing phone just coz vodafone wanna ruin the handset with their crappy f/w. just need to find th facebook app again
The Facebook widget is a free download from the Ovi store, just have a look in the 'Applications ' section.

I used NAVIFIRM to download the v11 firmware set.
I had to fiddle with JAF because it didn't automatically pick up the correct ROMs, so I had to select them manually as follows:
MCU Flash file: C:\Temp\N97\firmware\RM-505_11.0.021_prd.core.C00
PPM Flash file: C:\Temp\N97\firmware\RM-505_11.0.021_prd.rofs2.V01
CNT Flash file: C:\Temp\N97\firmware\RM-505_11.0.021_C01_prd.rofs3.fpsx
APE Variant file: C:\Temp\N97\firmware\RM505_507_11.0.021_uda1_001.uda.fpsx
Select Maunal Flash, Dead USB, Factory Set and Normal mode and hit flash.
My N97 is now working again. I'm guessing it's on the right firmware because that's what I flashed, what's the *# code to check?
TYVM for the heads-up, andonevris.
for the mcu flash file, i had to rename the file extension to .COR rather than the .COO because it wouldnt pick up the file, once i did ths it worked fine AFTER REMOVNG MY SIM CARD THOUGH
nokion wrote:Fair point. I've done it now and the tone has returned. Still not getting any widgets though but that's not an issue really.davwil, I think someone in this thread stated it happened to their 3 handset too.
i didnt have any widgets after flashing, but just click options add content to re-add the widgets on the homescreen,, simples
Why aren't you using NSS to debrand?
FAR, FAR simpler, and way more successful....

hi all just to let you know what happened with mine i was on vodafone v11 changed my code to a euro one used nsu to flash to v12 and my phone appeared to be a brick (cycles of powering on a single horizontal band on the screen then turning off) all i had to do to fix was a hard reset worked first time 😃
mattjuk wrote:hi all just to let you know what happened with mine i was on vodafone v11 changed my code to a euro one used nsu to flash to v12 and my phone appeared to be a brick (cycles of powering on a single horizontal band on the screen then turning off) all i had to do to fix was a hard reset worked first time 😃
Yeah, I had that. Bloody crapped myself 'cos I thought I'd bricked it as well. Done the hard reset and it works fine.
Yes, I've done everything that everyone has suggested.
MY problem is it gets to Pooling then fails....
"My ressurection goes fine until it gets to the "Pooling Phone" bit. The screen goes all LCD liney, then stops.
Then, JAF says something along the lines of:
"Did your phone turn back on, Yes No?"
when I click "No" cos it didn't back come back on, it just says "Done!" and finishes.
Though its not actually done, as the phone doesnt turn back on or do anything.
So I try it all again, but then click...YES
But when I click "Yes" JAF thinks for a while then says...
"Phone not found...
Second try...
MCUSW: (null)
APESW: (null)
VariantSW: (null)
Prodcode:
Setting test mode...
Failed! Aborting!
Done!"
It doesn't turn on or anything.
And JAF has finished.
I've done the files manually. The .ini file option is there
ie: N97 is listed. It looks for the folders
both Phoenix\Products\RM-505 and the other Nokia folder
I downloaded everything from Navifirm
Basically, I've done everything correctly just the minute it gets to
"POOLING" it doesn't work. Trying again makes no difference.

Hey, i was using JAF this afternoon, and when i tried to flash my bricked phone, i kept getting a drop down box with loads of phones, but not the N86 or N97!
Where did you get the MCU/PPM/CNT/APE stuff, was it using Navifirm?
I have an xp machine i can use but would prefer Vista, but i couldn't get the V4 part of the programes to work.
davwil wrote:It to had a bricked N97 after rebranding from vodaphone and upgrading.I followed the instructions at http://dailymobile.se/forum/index.php?topic=1792.0 but with a twist.
Before you start JAF the 1.98.62 version download JAF 1.98.64 from http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb//forum/thread/779333/&page=24
and copy just the ini files to progam files/odeon/jaf, this includes the latest settings for the n97.
Then follow the rest of the instructions.
Happy days 😊😊
David
I can't see anywhere on that link to download the ini files from or JAF 1.98.64.
Can anyone provide a nice clear idiots guide and the actual progs used, i know everyone would have to use Navifirm to get there individual firmware.
But as this is a N97 forum, perhaps a nice clear sticky would be great, as i'm sure loads of people with bricked phones would benefit from it.
I've said it once and I'll say it again.....
Why oh why do people persist in using the terribly complicated and perilous method of JAF to debrand their phones when the Nemesis Service Suite method is infinitely simpler and infinitely less prone to problems?? :banghead: :hmmmm: :stupid: :con?
Go to this link....

...follow the very simple steps (all links to NSS are included) and change that Product Code safely in seconds. Then use Nokia's very own tried and tested method of firmware updating, NSU, to finish the job.
No messing around with swapping out batteries, downloading firmware from places that aren't even Nokia, swapping .dll files, etc, etc.
Just download and install NSS, plug the USB cable into your phone, allow NSS to find your phone, key in the new product code, press write, job done.

Yep, i used the Nemesis way and bricked my N86 yesterday.
So before i try again with both my N86 and the new N97 i just want to make sure i will be able to resurrect the phone!

NSU and ovi suite updater don't work for everyone pal.

I was under the impression that just changing the product code via NSS would brick the handset when you tried to install the updated V12 firmware. I followed the JAF de-branding guide over at http://n97debranding.blogspot.com/ and this worked perfectly (for me anyway).

Nope. NSS works flawlessly everytime. If it fails to restart (which is rare from what I hear) a simple vulcan death grip sorts that out for you. A simple Google search on the JAF method turns up enormous amounts of people who have had it fail on them or it took an inordinate amount of time to perform. NSS is one app two clicks and done.
This is starting to sound like the Xbox360 VS PS3 or N97vs Iphone stuff, with just a different subject to argue over LOL.
Lovesign, last night i debranded and updated both my N97 (delivered yesterday, and My Hubbys N86, again new yesterday)
I used Nemesis and then Nokia Updater, all went fine, and both phones are now debranded and running the latest firmware.
However, i had done exactly the same thing the previous evening with the N86 and it bricked, no amount of hard re-setting got it going. So i was looking at Jaf as a way of flashing it back to life.
So there you have it Two N86's on same Vista desktop, one went okay the other didn't!
I Googled like a lunatic when I was about to change the firmware language of my Nokia N97. There are a lot of sloppy tutorials out there and I was quite confused until I hit the mother load. These two guides are the best on the web in my book, for those who are interested:
How to Change the Product Code on a Nokia N97
How to Unbrand Your Nokia N97
Both seems pretty fool-proof to me and if I'd have to choose just one, I'd go for the first.
Just wanted to share 😃
