The Nokia N86 wins the race to v20 firmware

So what's this news about new firmware for the N86? Are we really getting it? Looking around at some various forums that's what people are saying but i don't see anything concrete about it. Urban myth perhaps? Lol.

I wouldn't put too much faith into Nokia, all they care about at the moment is N900 and selling that. I know they gave an update to N85 a few days, but there seems to be nowt for N97, N97 mini and N86 as mentioned.

1st the bad:

I don't think you'll see an update for Christmas 😞

Now the good:

Yes it is intended that there will be further update/s. 😊

The first is planned for early in the new year. Any further update/s are currently unconfirmed schedule wise.

These will be more about improving the product performance rather than new features if you know what I mean 😉

On the topic of v20 not being available for some variants. Please PM me with your product code and I will try and take a look for you - no promises! These may not be available due to operator approvals which in some cases can take longer. I did hear that there could be another small wave of variants released in the next 4 weeks or so.

Wow. Damain, you replied! Fantastic! Kudos to you 😊

Shame to hear there won't be firmware in time for Xmas but if it's being released early in the New Year then i'll definetely be looking forward to that! Not long to go eh?

Can you give us any info. on what the FW in the New Year will give us in regards of phone performance and/or features?

The only thing Damian said, which is new is that THERE IS A DELAY IN NEW FW RELEASE TIME.
The new firmware was planned for this Christmas. Testers finished testing the new fw a week ago. And it's great to know about the delay. Maybe this time they will do everything as they should have done in September. If they need more time, ok. It's better for us, as we'll get a better final product. Ah, and another thing. There supposed to be another firmware planned for the spring 2010, and now Damian said that it's unconfirmed...

This sounds perfect to me,

btw. what new features should this be ? Making coffee, or so stupid things.

I think the N86 can do enough.

But the features the N86 already has, these should be runnning perfect and fast with no bugs, then everything is okay. If Nokia now does something for the performance and stability, im satisfied.

Thanks for this Information Damian, great to hear from you.

Best wishes Mav

If you re-read his post i think you'll find the other NEW thing he said was that we'll receive firmware update in the New Year! Most talk was about us receiving FW update by Xmas. Everyone was saying Xmas. That's wrong and he's corrected us. And he said it's now most likely to be delivered around New Year. So there you go! Simples!

don't talk to anonymous but this one is very smart one. So simple!

Damian, what do you mean by early in the New Year?

Is is right after New Year, Jan 1st? The first week of Janurary, after New Year or sometime during the month of January? This is confusing. Can you please clarify? Many thanks.

I have another news. The update was scheduled for the week after Christmas. Now it's delayed one week. For the first week of 2010. But "Have u ever seen Nokia releasing its firmwares on scheduled dates? I have doubt even for jan 2010"- as one new fw tester said today.

I got a problem here that I would like to inform Nokia. (Not sure whether this is bugs or not). I'm not sure where should I send to. Not sure Nokia which part. Any help would be great to report my problem...

My problem here is that, when you choose to record a voice clip using 'High Quality', the voice clip you recorded will not appear in Gallery>Sound Clips. Any idea why? When the Standard or MMS Compatible mode is selected, it will appear! :con?

Any idea?

Thanks for helping...

I hope Nokia will fix the camera battery bug in new firmware.

Which product code gets updates first?

Which product code gets updates first?

All productcodes on the same time ....

haha what a joke, im also wondering which codes get it first,

i think first we will have the euro1 2 3 codes, then two weeks later the german 0580415, and 2 or 3 months later the 0586595 german unbranded country variant.

Thanks to some help i changed my code to 0580415, so i get it faster, but i have to say that i dont have problems with the 20.115 only the pics could be a little sharper.

I think this is the original date when N86 firmware was to arrive, but it was delayed as nokia engineers are too stupid to make it on time. I think so as today some new firmwares has been released: N82, N95. I'm getting impatient... UPDATE: ORIGINALLY THE RELEASE DATE WAS ARTER 25.12, NOT TODAY, AS i've learned now from reliable sources.

I think you're absolutely right. The N82 and N95 have all been given firmware updates today and since the original firmware update for N86 was to have been released in time for Xmas i think we also would have seen a new firmware update for the N86 today too, but alas it's been delayed till New Year.

So i guess that makes it Monday 4th Jan 2010 when we get it.

I think it's better for us to wait until the finest firmware is done, rather than releasing earlier with buggy firmware....

Do you agree with me? 🙄

we all had high hopes for v20, and look what have happen. So v21 (or whatever) will also be buggy, just hope less buggy than current one. Then we all wait for v31.... see the pattern 😊

Any more news on the fw update Damian? You still around mate?

When's this bloody new firmware coming???? Want my buggy phone fixed!!!!

Just update to v20. Noticed the obvious graphical lag when switching phone orientation (portrait to landscape and vice versa). Now my phone keep getting disconnected when I'm making or receiving a phonecall. At first it got disconnected after around 5 minutes of talking, just now, only about a few seconds! It is so frustrating! How can I revert to earlier firmware?

Hi all, this is my first post here and I would like to ask if any of your N86s shut down (power off) overnight / when left idle for a while. I'm getting this problem since I 'up'graded to V20.

Happy New Year!

I dont facing the problem like you after update to v20

Donno when is the new FW available???

You've got something running and misbehaving. What have you installed? Game running all the time? Nokia Messaging? a low level utility?

Thanks for replying, Steve. No, I haven't got anything running in the background.
I did hard reset with full format(factory, the one in which you select country and set time) several times but still it does shut down like that. It also keeps crashing and restarting itself on the homescreen though.

I had this problem just tonight, I'm sure i left the phone with 45-50% batterytime left. When waking up 8h later the phone was dead.

Is it me or is every other single Nokia phone receiving a fw update this December apart from the N86?! Have Nokia forgotten about this phone or what! Nokia really are taking the piss!!!

i thought the release of the N86 firmware in the first part of the year is new year's day itself. LOL.

Did you wipe the mass memory as well though? If you'd installed apps on that (or on memory card) then there could still be something auto-loading and auto-running.

Of course, it maybe that you haven't installed any low level third party apps, in which case the phone could simply be faulty?....

Try to use Energy profiler (available on OVI Store) to see if there is not a process running in the background.

On idle the phone consumes:
Screen ON + T9 lights ON = ~0.34 watts
Screen ON + T9 lights OFF = ~0.13 watts
Screen OFF + T9 lights OFF = ~0.04 watts
