Yes, it was mentioned before...

v11: http://www.ipernity.com/doc/djmuzi/6336551/sizes

v20: http://www.ipernity.com/doc/djmuzi/6387958/sizes

v20 is unfortunately more noise.

v11 was perfect...

You need to compare like with like to make such conclusions.

Yes v20 has a little more noise (typically only visible when viewed at 100% magnifications (much larger than full screen) however the result is better details which a lot of people wanted. Just shows you that with something as subjective as this you can never win. Just the other day I was reading a post from you stating you wanted more detail. Can't have less noise and more detail, there always has to be a compromise. Could have larger pixels to create less nosie in the first place, but that would then mean bigger camera module = bigger device or take something out to make room = compromise again... see where this is going?

I strongly believe that on balance the tuning in v20 is much better than v11 unless you view everything at 100%. But even then you'll have more detail at least to admire vs v11 😊

Hi Damian.

Don't suppose you have any new info on when we might expect to see a new FW update for the N86? I'm guessing it probably won't be until next year, but is there more that can be done to modify and make even more improvements to the camera?

The camera is great, there are many more pressing issues with this firmware.

It's great to hear it from You. "Many more issues" and added "with THIS firmware". Admit it Damian. You haven't done a good job with this 20.115. And it's still the worst firmware update I've ever seen on any nokia. Now, prove yourself. We're all waiting for next update! Ah! And TEST it before release, please!

Hi Damian, you recommendet to me in this thread to repair my N86 because of the unfocussed photos in Auto mode.

I sent today my N86 to a Amazon Service. They are working together with W-Support GMBH. I hope they will realy replace my camera module and not simply make an Softwareupdate, what they made years ago to my K750i with similar problems.

When I look back to my phone history I can say:
- Motorola E1000 - totally blurry photos - Vodafone replaced it.
- SonyEricsson K750i - 50 % left side blurry - W-Support made only Software-update - did not help - I sold it
- Nokia N73 - after a few month 30% left side blurry photos - I sold it
- Samsung D900i - really good camera :icon14:
- Nokis N95 everything allright :icon14:
- Nokia N86 - mid/left side often blurry

I mean what are that cameras made of? I understand, that the manufactorer want to safe space for othe parts in the phone. But it seems that they get totally cheap hardware, which is often deffective.

4 of 6 camera-phones I owned were (are) not OK :frown:

with v20 FW i found that macro mode do improve much where I using digital zoom to take macro picture & the result are great.

Her is macro photo taken using v20 FW

Thats why I bought today finally a normal Digicam (Canon Ixus 95 IS). I remember a review on Flickr, where someone compared Ixus 75 vs N86 and the N86 was quite OK compared to the 7 megapixels photos on bright sunshine.

But the lack of Xenon let me carry my big fat old Cybershot P72 on parties, which I now replaced with the small Ixus 95 IS 😊

But still the N86 is one of the few good replacements (Satio, Pixon as well) if your digicam is NOT n your pocket 😊

One more picture

Night mode with high ISO setting

High ISO will lead to mode noise but this still at the level of acceptable

n82 with night mode same setting as n86 (ISO auto =ISO800)

n82 having more noise compare to n86 even when scene taken by n82 is brighter than n86

Yeah, if next year comes by and I still dont have it, I would not be surprised. Macro mode stinks in v11. The camera never wants to focus. The indicator box turns red, and I think it happens when theres not enough light or something? I wonder if WB indoors would be better with xenon? I think xenon drains the battery faster, but Id be willing to trade more battery drainage for better WB indoors. I tried incandescent mode, but its worse than auto.

You should update to v20 FW. v20FW do macro far better than v11. What is your product code????

The noise come out much more when the shutter speed reach 1/1000s when I using sport mode

the result are great.
overall n86 camera performance are faster than n82 especially in focus. n86 seem taking photo much stable where n82 much easier to get blur picture cause by hand shake.

You know I had focussing-issues which I talked about with DamianDinning, he said that it has nothing to do with software. So I decided to let they repair the phone.

Last Thursday I sent my N86 to Amazon Service (no Care Point in my town); they work together wits a company called w-support in Germany. Generally i Germany such service partner from Nokia only can make repairs up to service level 2.

W-support told me today that they sent my N86 to the manufacturer. What do they mean wit manufacturer? I know: Nokia, but where? And a camera issue seems not to be service level 2.
... They have simply to replace the camera. Is this such a amount of work? I bet they could make it within 5 minutes :frown:

I read bad things in german forums. Nokia owner had to wait 5-7 weeks for their Nokia to get repaired somewhere in Poland 😮 😡

genus86 wrote:You should update to v20 FW. v20FW do macro far better than v11. What is your product code????

My product code is 0590552: N86 8MP RM-485 North America US Athlon NA Default.

There is also a 0589620: N86 8MP RM-485 Telcel MX MX Indigo V1. I wonder how they differ?

I've been busy lately. Last I check it wasn't available. I can't connect with my phone at the moment as the Wi-Fi network I'm at requires WEP authentication. Nokia requires an authority certificate, but the people I've called that manage the network say no certificate is needed because Windows doesn't need it. This same problem exists on all the other Nokia phones. Few have managed to get it to work, but there are so many different settings and it needs to be exact as it's picky. I've been able to connect to several other networks without a problem including by router at home which requires authentication.

Edit: I connected to the other network with a medium/weak signal. No update available. :icon13:

Does anybody know, what service level is requred to replace a camera in the n86? :con?

Our Amazon servic has only level 2 and sent my n86 to the "manufactorer" whereever this is... Level 2 can do software updates and exchange machanical end elactrical parts. The camera seems not to be such a thing...:con?

Hi everyone i have bought my n86 in holland simfree not branded just the ''clean'' nokia sw on it because they usually get fw updates fast why o why cant i still update to v20 its been more than a month since its been out there i hope they didnt forget this prod code
0587295: N86 8MP Country Variant Netherlands NL CV v1 + 1Ynavi + 10 tra Indigo

Seriously where the hell is the generic firmware? I am *this close* to giving up on this device. It's barely usable yet I spent a small fortune on it!

were is this update 20.115 ? I know this is not the thread "were is my update", but "wins the race" again is not the right title....

were is this update for ALL productcodes, eg the 0586595

does it take two months like with the N97 until all prodcodes are out,

or do they just forget some codes, and their owners just had then bad luck ?

but absolutely no information from Nokia side is bad really bad,

the customers service said, they cant say something about updates, i just have to wait a little bit .....

Next time i should say you get your money in 2 months, just wait a little bit....

:icon13::icon13::icon13:

I have recently bought N86 and i have problems with freezing, slow menus etc. so i tried to update to v20 but whatever i do, the phone (ota) or nsu can't find update.
I have tried several product codes, but it still can't find new version (I am using my wifi connection to check the upgrade).
Maybe it has to do something with the hack, because i hacked my phone
Is it possible that they have removed v20?

When i check on nokia site my product code it says that update is available (v20), but on the phone it doesnt' show.

maverick2 wrote:were is this update 20.115 ? I know this is not the thread "were is my update", but "wins the race" again is not the right title....

It didn't win the race. The race never finished. Their idea of a race must be the first product code that gets it. :icon13: Some N97 owner's haven't gotten their update. I'm sitting here with v11. I was expecting to have v20 over a month ago. Nokia must have higher priorities.

I was hesitant of changing product code as I've read several people having problems doing it. That's probably the cause of your problem. My N86 is responsive. Mine only froze on Google Maps when it couldn't connect to a network the first time I've used that app.

A very good comparisson Omnia HD vs N86 vs some Digicams and one crappy SonyErcsson

I take out the Sony Ericsson of my following comment, it cant compete in no way.

1. what happened with the night photo? The N86 is the worse! He must have not use correct settings.
2. The N86 hat a slight barrel-distortion, Omnia HD doesnt have such effect, but better then the Samsung digicams however
3. He must have a defective N86: look at the left border of the N86 pictures, especially on the outdoor photos: they are all blurry, the right side is allways sharp!
4. The low light picture of the midle aged man the N86 makes him alive  all other cameras makes him look like a zombie (sorry)

At the end: The Omnoa HD seems to be better, especially on the night photo and in terms of sharpness. The colours of the N86 are the best, however they are true or not...

I wish the developers who have been said to be viewing this thread would give estimates for v20 releases for product codes. They don't have the hassle of creating an account to post.

I'm glad my phone has now v11 again 😊 Amazon replaced my N86 with defective camera.

look at the sharpness.
