All in all, I'm somewhat disappointed with this update - while some issues are resolved, the others are still there.
I can confirm that at least these bugs are still unresolved:
charging light behavior, "already in use" message when deleting a picture that was just taken, multiple (visible) contacts and ovi chat processes, kickstand that won't open any program if the keypad is locked, minor full screen clock option inconsistency...
I bolded the two I think are the most important to fix because those problems make some hardware parts of the phone useless (battery charging indicator and kickstand)
Most of these look like really-easy-to-fix bugs, so I don't understand why they are still present.
I hope that I'll at least see some stability improvements with this version.
It's weird, why the size of the update through phone OTA is around 650 KB, and by using OVI Suite is around 139 MB?
Could anybody explain?

Hello,
Thats because when you update via NSU, it rewrites everything anew.
OTA is simply an update to your existing firmware!
Hopes this helps.
v21 done a good job.
But it seem that WB of camera still not doing good. Night shot was great with minimum noise. Hopefully there will further improvement on WB for flash & indoor photo under fluoroscent lamp & less noise when using high ISO setting (ISO800 i usually use it to reduce hand shake)
Video recording is good for n86😊
Theme effect was done a good job in v21
Face detection is faster than v20
Screen rotation is faster than v20
I haven't yet got my update 😞( Why do they ignore NAM always?? As u sow, so u reap. No wonder Nokia is kicked out of USA. Staunchest customer like me, who defy all the vogue and keep using Nokia, feels only deserted when they keep sending update to the rest of the world ignoring us. May be this is my last Nokia 😞

What's your product code (beginning with 05 under the battery)?

yeah, same problem here; mine too is NAM version, product code 0590552.
i thought the US and Canada are more important as a market than that, especially given the competition, but I may be wrong...
What about 0586595? Its a free German phone (i hope so).
DKlaus wrote:Sob. Just received my N86 today ... [skipping long story about my thorough research and high expectations] ... just to find that I'm stuck with FW 10.086 despite the fact that 20.115 has been out for two months!
Patience is eventually rewarded. A further month and a half, and I was able to get 20.115 shortly after 21.006 was released. And a couple of weeks later (today!), when checking, I found 21.006 to be available Over The Air.
Looking forward to find the goodies!
What has been nagging me the most about the N86 is its exasperating unresponsiveness. For instance when replying to a text msg, it would typically take e few seconds before it was ready to receive typing. Or when looking up a contact. Or waking up from idle (not even in powersaving mode). Anything having to do with task switching, it seems.
It also seems to frequently miss clicks on the D-pad.
The camera shutter button on the N95 had better tactile feedback.
And it occasionally insists on playing the Nokia tune at incoming calls, though I've explicitly selected a different ringtone for both normal and video calls.
Other than that (and surely a few more things) - what a lovable phone 😊
OK, I checked if those codes had been released or not and unfortunately those are not on the list of the first 120 or so we've released so far. I'm sorry but it looks like some of those may have to wait until the next batch get released. I don't have any more info than that at this stage. Delay between first batch released and subsequent codes being fulfilled is normally down to either local regional/country content being approved and or operator variants being approved. There's no guidline for those as it varies every time. As we can't control those approvals it makes it very hard to predict how long before those would be available. Thank you for your continued patience.
cb474 wrote:Thanks for the repsonse. I don't understand how this explains the firmware being released for one of the generic NAM codes 0580950, but not the other 0590552. These are in the same region and have nothing to do with operators. Is it just because the latter code is a U.S. specific code and there's some hangup with U.S. approval?
Do u really buy that argument that US requires regulatory approval for a firmware update? At that level of bureaucracy they would be a third world country by now.

Have u guys watched Steve Jobs presentation yesterday?? Apple is now number 1 cell phone manufacturer in the world (in terms of revenue)!! I am eagerly waiting to see Nokia go bankrupt so that rest can learn some lesson on how to get kicked in the ass even when u r a monopoly. I just checked for update again few minutes back and "No update available" 😞( I hate my overpriced dumb Nokia. The problem is, here in USA their resale value is less than my boot's resale value.

No, they are not no. 1. They were talking about "mobile devices", including ipods, MacBooks etc...
You really think that IPhone is selling better than all nokia phones put together? :P
They now released N86 firmware for north america, but thats only for OTA. I upgraded using OTA and my GPS is still not locking without AGPS. Could u pls help in getting that thing uploaded to Nokia Software updater?
Thanks.
After upgrading to V21 (4 weeks ago) definitively the standby time is in the range from 60 to 80hours shorter. I use my N86 as second mobile phone (98% standby). I log every runtime of the phone in a excel-Plot. With V20 the standby time >290h .
With V21 allways <220h.
Any new news regarding the N86?
Haven't heard anything about this phone for ages! It seems to be completely forgotten about!
Damian Dinning, where are you? Are you out there???
The camera power consumption bug still exists in the newest firmware v21 !!
After closing the Cam-software by the camera-shutter my 90% full charged N86 was hot(!) and empty after 60 Minutes...

I often search for new updates and all my N86 offers me is v20.115 🙄
I doubt it would change the next few month.
But I think with my v11 I will be fine untill my next phone, unfortunately there will be no new Nokia out there untill christmas maybe.

Thank Damian for the information. Lets hope for the best 😊

Hello Damian, just out of curiosity, what are the updates that we will see? hopefully, not a ~700kb one.
I hope Nokia do more to exploit the camera's performance.
Thanks.
Hopefully Nokia will fix the camera battery bug with this next firmware.
RS77 wrote:Hopefully Nokia will fix the camera battery bug with this next firmware.
and hopefully Nokia fix the bug with the shorter Standby-Time since V21.006
(Around 70 to 90hours shorter Standby-Time)
Well, if its greater than 3-4 weeks,, then months!
What can we expect Damian?
Just a leak?
Yes, where's the info for the next FW update....
Will be it be v22 or v30 or v31? A big update or a small one.
Damian you still around?
As always they have left out north american version. I hate Nokia. Absolute garbage marketing and customer relationship management.
