Have just updated. On v20 there was no music folder icon and some movies didn't work. This was solved by a hardware reset, losing all your settings. However when upgrading to v21 it kept the music folder icon and ability to play the movies - from my hardware reset. So for me a great improvement. If you didn't do a hardware reset in v20 I hear the movie problem is still there, but for me its a lot better. Now some of the bugs introduced in v20 have been resolved.
Will look into this video stutter thing though?
hi i also found the problem in video recording. Now its freazes for a moment every four second during recording and playback as well. In short video recording has become worst
Now we have stable firmware (for most of us!) with v21, does anyone have any good tips & tricks for the N86?

Got the N86 from Amazon, default NAM product code of whatever. Update isn't showing up OTA or with NSU. Am I the only one? Am I confusing poor Nokia by being in Canada with an American phone?

ok thanks ... i tried all of that ... multiple times ... and uninstall - reinstall multiple times ... always it downloads the update ... says "installing..." and then "connect to a proper usb port etc etc" or whatever that usb error message is
i'm still stuck on v11 because of it and i was hoping for better luck today but the same old routine produced the same old results

I have updated using my N86 and my home wireless connection to the internet.
I am posting this just in case you missed it. Actually my GPS became really useless with the previous firmware and because of that, every now and then, whenever in the toilet!!!! i would hit: Menu-Tools-Device Manager-Options-Check for Updates. Then it connects to my home wireless router and notifies for the results. Follow the onscreen instructions
I am not quite sure about how fast it locks on the satellites, but at least i have back Satellite Status feature which had disappeared from the Gps Data menu.
At least now i am watching it trying!!! to connect and move around to help it lock

I've seen one or two similar comments where after resetting the phone to factory settings this has cleared. You may want to try this but back everything up first and then remove the memory card you've backup to before doing the reset, if that's how you are going to backup.

GPS lock (without A-GPS, without Network based, just integrated) is much faster. It takes no longer than 1-2 min, sometimes even less.
I haven't experienced choppy video recording, so I guess you should try what Damian suggested.
Unfortunately "Already in use" message is still there (when deleting image right after shooting).
Auto-rotation needs some work as well, as phone becomes unresponsive (or very slow) for a few secs after rotation.
As I said before "focusing" is lightning fast in v21 :icon14:

They could have released it with v21 but nope! So how long do we have to wait for this now?

I just updated the Nokia N 86 phone to V21, and have problems. Wont play movies anymore, even the videos installed originally on the phone.
Even worst, had 3 movies, as a bonus on the phone (matrix trilogy) and wont PLAY THEM ANYMORE, Just the sound.
Gives an error message: Error playing the video, will try to play it partially. And then just the sound can be heard.
What can be wrong? How can I fix this?
did you try hard reset? I know it's annoying, but sometimes this helps with glitches you described.
Did the upgrade on windows 7 in compability mode - vista sp2 worked fine.
Phone is alot faster, havent had time to try everything.
A bad bug for me is still is: Bluetooth handsfree in my car. Civic original and its a problem on other cars to.
I can recive a call, but to make a call dos not work. The phone or call is lost from the system.
And the phone is no longer connected to the car.
I had a N82 before and it worked all the time in the same car.

What's happened to the N86? On various Nokia/Symbian websites all the news i read about is for N97/N97 Mini/N900 even N95 but i don't hear much talk or news about the N86. We've had FW update to v21 and we're waiting to receive the new free navigation Ovi Maps 3.3 but what else is there? Is there more to come for the N86 or is it quietly going to go un-noticed for the foreseeable future?
This phone really needs more news, hype and publicity!
I updated to v21 and i have the following problem. I used to have assigned an image to a contact (only 1) none else in my contact list have assigned image. Since I updated usinng the phone's option the image is disappeared from the Photos. although it is on the memory card but when i put it on a computer it says that it is incompatible. The thumbnail is still available though strange thing
I am having trouble with the bluetooth disconnecting in the middle of a call. Is anyone else having a similar problem or is it just my handset?

I have been having the same problem with my N86 on my Toyota Rav4. I had no problem with my N95 on the same car.
I sometimes must switch to the handset, then speakerphone while driving. Not the safest thing to do at freeway speeds.

i was wondering if the v21 fw update was being released for product code 0587727 soon ? i know o2 are sometimes slow with this but there over the phone tech support is useless. hopefully the experts can help me 😊
i have also been having issues with the conversation application downloaded from the beta lab. it's an experimental app but a number of friends are using this on there n86 given they have different product codes !
i have been having a issue with the fm transmitter not working at all but when i set the standby menu to on and re booted the phone the issue was gone ?? i have turned the standby back off and the fm transmitter still functions 😊 has anyone else returned this issue ? is it true that the fm transmitter will not transmit voice calls in certain regions due to laws ?? im in uk england works ok on music but not for calls.

Well you can install the new OVI Maps on the n86 if you take for example the client of the E72 (same thing for the facebook widget). But it would be better if Nokia makes it official. Maybe with the next 3.04 release.
If you are looking for a new firmware I think you (we) have to wait until christmas, at least. I would be very surprised if the V30 appears this summer for example.
